It is my fourth tv.com anniversary. At least, it was about 3/4 days ago.
Yay. I haven't been here a while, but I will never leave for good.
What have I been upto this week? Taking care of Kittens, is what!
My cat Rikku had kittens last Wednesday. Five. One died the next day, but the other four remain strong.
I named them; Fox, Bubbles, Brutus (RIP), Angel and Tirzah.
The pictures are too big to post, but if you want to see pictures click here.
I want to do something special for this blog, and decided to write small reviews for the shows that I have been watching this year.
Only shows that have been airing in 2009, though.
The N00bs
United States Of Tara

A show with fine acting but inconsistent writing. However, it had a fine payoff at the end and hopefully it will keep improving next year.
Grade: B-
Dollhouse

A bit of a hit-or-miss, but it is has an interesting concept. It is not quite as memorable as the other Joss shows, but it will get there. I hope.
Grade: C+
Kings

Started off with loads of potential, but that was sucked out pretty early in. The actors were great, but the writing was just too uneven. I will watch the final episodes and hope that it ends as strong as it started.
Grade: C+
Being Human

I am finally getting into some British shows. I do not like this one as much as Life On Mars or Skins, but it was interesting. I just wish that we would get more George and less of everything else.
Grade: B
Harper's Island

My biggest guilty pleasure of the Season. It had a horrible start, full of cliches and poor dialog. But the last couple of episodes managed to suck me in and make me care about the characters and the plot. Although still cheesy, it has had it's moments of awesomeness. Just three more episodes, I can't wait.
Grade: C
No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency

The best new show of the year, more people need to know about it. The cast is just superb, it is like nothing I have seen before. A breath of fresh air.
Grade: A
Nurse Jackie

Another excellent new show. Only three episodes in, but have already fallen in love with it. The great cast and dialog make it stand out. One of the most memorable shows on Showtime.
Grade: A-
The Oldies
Survivor: Season 18

Yes, reality tv rots your brains. But Survivor is fun, without being too dumb. Season 18 had a likeable cast, perhaps too likeable. I missed more action and physical challenges. But otherwise, it was a fun watch.
Grade: C+
E.R.: Season 15

After a rather forgettable season, the show ended on a high note. Actually, their last season turned out to be one of their best. That usually never happens.
Grade: A-
The Office: Season 5

Although not as memorable as it once was, the fifth season had some great moments.
Grade: B
Nip/Tuck: Season 5.5

Second half of Season 5 turned out to be much, much better than the first. But it still does not beat the early years.
Grade: B-
Medium: Season 5

The show is still going strong, but I am surprised that it hasn't gotten the ax yet. The season ended on a great cliff-hanger.
Grade: B
Lost: Season 5

My least favorite season to date. It was nice to learn more about the Island, but I simply did not care about a lot of it. However, I am definitely looking forward to see how they continue the story next year.
Grade: B
Rescue Me: Season 5

This season has been surprisingly strong. Sean and Mike just get funnier and Tommy gets even more badass. So glad that I did not give up on it.
Grade: B+
Weeds: Season 5

Too early to judge, but so far, pretty good. I love how dark the series is getting. Esteban is one of my favorite villains on tv.
Grade: B
Battlestar Galactica: Season 4.5

The last 11 episodes of BSG were amongst my favorites. Not everyone enjoyed the dark turn that the series took, but was it ever any less dramatic? I think that the show ended up on a very high note, and was fully satisfied with it's conclusion.
Grade: A+
Big Love: Season 3

The first two seasons were great, but the third season brought it to a new level of brilliance. Although still not quite my favorite show on HBO, it is definitely one of the best.
Grade: A+
30 Rock: Season 3

Meh, not as funny or as clever as the first two. I think that all the famous guest stars just made it too commecial and not as enjoyable as it once was.
Grade: B-
The Tudors: Season 3

A strong year, but I was expecting a little more. I missed Anne more than I thought, and King Henry has lost all his appeal by now. The show is a little too empty at times, but still good.
Grade: B
Heroes: Season 3

Haven't actually even finished it yet. The show has gotten pretty awful and screwy. I wonder if I will bother to tune in again.
Grade: D+
Skins: Season 3

Surprisingly great. I love the new cast much more than the old. Cook, Freddie, Effy, Tomas, JJ were all fabulous.
Grade: B+
Breaking Bad: Season 2

My favorite show of 2008, and so far, my favorite show of 2009. Bryan Cranston is a little too convincing at times.
Grade: A+
Flight Of The Conchords: Season 2

Best comedy of the year. It is funnier, smarter, and just plain better. The songs were fantastic. Here's hoping for a third season.
Grade: A
True Blood: Season 2

A little too early to tell, but judging on the premier. It looks like we are in for a killer season.
Grade: A-
Can't wait for Mad Men's + Dexter's return and Glee's + Flash Forward's premieres.
Currently (Re)watching

Rescue Me: Season 5

Hola Don Juan
Glad to hear from you and here's hope to keep sharing for many more years! Congrats to Rikku, she makes a lovely mum. And omg, the kitten are beyond gorgeous! I'm sorry one didn't make it, hope those 4 grow up strong and healthy. The second picture of the kitten in your? hand is beyond adorable, so tiny and yet so absolutely perfect. Enjoy them, they are too funny when they are kitties. Oh, and happy birthday to Greta
Kissy

Hola Esther. The kitten in my hand is the one that didn't make it.
. Kittens are so cute, can't wait till they start running around and shredding the house. thanks for stopping by!

Wow 4 years, that's impressive. Really cute kittens you got there. Are you gonna keep them all?
I liked Lost season 5. It's not as good as S1 or S4 and some characters (Desmond, Sayid, Jin) were horribly underused but I don't think the quality of Lost will ever get worse then it did in the first part of S3.

First part of S3 was weaker, but overall, I like the first three seasons much more. And S4 slightly. We already have 6 cats so convincing my mom to keep one is going to be a tough job. I definitely want to, though.

Being Human is a Brit show I've always wanted to see but they don't air it here unfortunately. I thought the second half of Nip/Tuck season 5 was the worst the show had done, utterly rediculous in fact. Loving season 5 of Rescue Me, though season 4 dipped in quality I was never worried about it. But this season has been surprisingly strong and interesting back to the old days of Rescue me aka the first three seasons.
I don't totally know what it was about The Tudors season 3 but something just wasn't as compelling as it should of been, not really sure why but it just didn't feel as interesting as it should have. Volume 3 of Heroes is the volume that made me love the show, though it had always been a favorite I began to adore it during volume 3 and as result finally bought the dvds. Volume 4 though...we'll I'll just say worst volume in my opinion and leave it at that. The True Blood premiere was weird me. I was never that into the show, way to much camp for me but the premiere just felt really bad.

Happy 4th Anniversary, You Crazy TV Addicted Forum Loving Freak! (And I mean that in the nicest way.
) I like the names you ended up choosing for your kitties. So Cute! I can't wait for Dexter S4 either. I miss that lovable murdering serial killer.

My god are you saying this place has been here for 4 years? And Tvtome's been dead that long? Geez time flys when you're misserable lol
Posted Jun 20, 2009 9:31 pm PT
Ashley - True Blood corny but you liked Heroes Season 3?
I know it's a matter of personal opinion, but something is wrong here
. N/T Season 5.5 was mostly good because of Katee Sackhoff. She is just so awesome.

Don't really like S3 (apart from the Ben/Locke/Juliet centrics and the episode were Sawyer kills Sawyer). Around the awful Jack-centric in Thailand I really thought the writers didn't know what they were doing and making it up as they went along (they probably are
). At least in S4 I got the impression they knew what they were doing again. And S3 is where my hatred for Kate started (and to a somewhat lesser extent Jack). S4 and S5 have not been able to fix that one though
.

Say what you will about Heroes volume 3, like I mentioned I have problems with volume 4, but I thought it was the best volume the show had done. Not that it doesn't have it's issues but I thought it was fabulous. With True Blood I always feel like I'm watching a mix between some campy 80's horror flick and a badly written soap opera. I'll watch the next episode to give it a shot but then I think I might be done.

Happy Anniversary!! I can't believe this site has been going for 4 years already.
I'm not watching most of those shows, or haven't got round to watching them. Glad you enjoyed Skins. I liked it also and some of the characters were really good, but it both started and finished poorly which is a shame. I'll probably watch the next series though.
