The Transformers: The Movie. One of my favorite movies of all time. So how much has changed from 1986 to 2007 and does the Live Action version stand up to the original?
First, lets take a look at the differences in characters.
Optimus Prime
vs 
The only Transformer to even slightly resemble his original 80s self. I dont know why they didnt do this with everyone else.
Personality wise, he is pretty much the same, which is very important. He was always honourable and willing to sacrifice himself for others, as he is in the new movies. Bringing Peter Cullen back to voice him again was brilliant! Then repeating the clasic line from the original movie 'One shall stand, one shall fall'. Things like that were great.
Change verdict: 7.5/10
vs 
As you can see there are some pretty big changes to his vehicle mode. I love fire but those flames are crap. They dont make him look cool at all. Even if they were cool looking flames, it still wouldn't suit him.
I can understand them not giving him a trailer because in the original series/movie, it literally appeared out of nowhere and disappeared in the same way. I used to think it always came in off screen but no, in some episodes you actually see it just magically appear and get bigger until its the size in the picture.
Change verdict: 6/10
Megatron
vs 
Megatron was smart, cunning, ruthless and merciless. Then, in 2007, he just became a pretty standard power hungry bad guy. You dont even get to know his personality. He only shows slight resemblance to his original self when he tells Starscream he has failed again.
Change Verdict: 3/10
vs 
One of the biggest differences is the Transformation into a Jet. Unfourutnately, I looked for hours and I couldnt find a single picture of Megatron in his Jet form, apart from toys but that looked really silly here, so here is one of his original gun mode and his Tank Mode that I dont remember at all from Revenge of the Fallen.
Originally, he could only Transformer into a gun. This is a change I have no problem with, because the leader of the Decepticons only becoming a GUN!? Thats pretty lame. Plus it isnt an Earth Jet, well its actually modeled off one the military hadn't revealed yet (in real life), at least thats what Ive heard, maybe its just a rumour. Anyway, in the movie its a Cybertronian Jet and in the original series you dont see what he Transformed into before ariving on Earth so it couldve been anything.
Change verdict: 8/10
I will be talking about Bumblebee and the others next time. To be honest, I kinda forgot all about them until after posting this... oops!

To show you how different everyone who isnt Optimus Prime became in the Live Action movies, take a look at these 4 characters and tell me something. Can you name all of these characters? If you arent familiar with the original series or movie, chances are you wont be able to name them all, 2 of them may be somewhat obvious though. Every one of these characters appeared in Live Action, of course.
