GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

Okay, I saw some previews for some movies that really pissed me off recently. Here's the first one:

Tim Burton:"9"

Man, I'm so disappointed that Burton would work on a CG film. I mean, I know that he's only producing it, but still, why would he even do that? It just looks like another one of those piece of crap Dreamworks or Pixar films that come out, like, every other week. I liked stop motion, and sets and models sooo much better then having every visual effect in modern cinema being done with CG, I wished they'd start bringing back the Ray Harryhausen approach to special effects; but they wont because it takes time and requires talent to do that kind of stuff, whereas digital arts does not.

And what's with the cast? My god, Jennifer Connoly, Elijah Wood, John C. Reily; it's like a Hollywood hack convention.

And here's the second trailer, but I warn you, if you haven't seen this yet you may be shocked, you may have a hard time believing that it's real, and not some elaborate joke, (I felt the same way when I saw the Speed Racer trailer), but I assure you, this is very, and sadly, real:

Dragonball: Evolution

I know what you're think, you're thinking "Really? WTF?! Why would they do that?" And I don't have an answer for you. It's appauling, it's disturbing, and it's slightly disgusting.

Can I just ask this? Is it not bad enough that you Americans have to steal all your ideas from us Asians? Why do you then have to re-cast all the leading male roles as white guys? And as if that wasn't bad enough, you then keep all the female leads Asian? So you not only steal our ideas, you then limit our presence in the media and defile our woman? WTF is wrong with you America?!

I HATE you're cynicism with films and games.

i hadn't planned on seeing either of those movies. tim burton always makes movies that look like crappy The Cure music videos. and i just plain don't like dragon ball.

To Thrubeingcool13:
Wow, how could anyone not like The Cure? What type of music do you listen to then? Probably rap like every other teenager/young adult these days, ugh. As for Tim Burton, for the most part he hit his peek a long time ago, but I still enjoy many of his movies. Are you actually going to tell me that you didn't even like 'Peewee's Big Adventure'? And I can understand not liking DBZ; it's, by no means, a great show; I just, like, grew up with it, you know, and have certain childhood memories attached to it.

To Fallenangel:
I'm not cynical, I'm just well-informed and have refined taste; you might want to try it one of these days instead of defending every piece of crap released to appease the ignorant masses.

is evolution that live action DB movie Fox has been workin on for like a decade? lol. there's nothing that could save that movie. they should never make live action anything when its based on anime.

you misunderstood. i am a fan of the cure, and what i meant was that tim burton makes movies based on material that looks like it could have been scrapped from a Cure video. edward scissorhands is the spitting image of the lead singer. i used to watch dbz as well, but it just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest anymore.
PS i don't listen to rap.

Well, I'm sorry for typecasting you then Thrubeingcool. Yes, I know what you're saying about Tim Burton, but I will always really love PeeWee and his first Batman movie; aside from that he's work has been entertaining but far from anything deserving the praise he regularly gets. And I haven't watched DBZ since I was 11, and I doubt I could go back and re watch it; but I can remember as a kid going to the comic store every Wednesday and renting the new fan subbed vhs they would get in.

Hmmm... I had no Idea Burton was coming out with a new film. I'm not opposed to films entirely in CG (although most of them are for children, or they suck) but this doesn't look too bad. But you can never really tell, at least from the trailer. Well, let me restate that. You can't usually tell, except with Dragonball. That's a fail-train loaded with fail headed into the fail capital of the world. I don't even see why they're attempting to make the film it's near impossible to make a live-action adaptation of an anime or video game (at least a good one) why would they bother... It just burns my eyes. On a final note, saying that digital art takes NO talent... a little harsh don't you think?

Yeah, it's a bit harsh. Digital Art does require a great deal of talent to do right, I know that. I just think traditional methods for special effects in cinema, like James Whale and Harryhausen stuff, just took more time, talent, and thoughtfulness.
