Hey there! I have one nice, relaxing week ahead of me. And then I'm thrown into full-time university, a new year of Sunday School, and a new year of Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring! I'm really excited about my upcoming year, especially university. I haven't been a full-time student since 2007. After that, I only went to high school part-time while I worked and saved up money -- for this, my beginning of university!
I'm very pumped.
Now, you may have read the title of this blog post. Have you ever heard of a website called (excuse my French) F-My-Life? It's a website where people post about the blunders in their day-to-day life. This story happens to be a pretty good one for that kind of website LOL!
It happened yesterday. I work at a department store, as a cashier. It's a wildly popular store that attracts customers from many walks of life -- some are pretty nice, while others are really rude and annoying LOL! And yesterday, I walk in a pretty grouchy mood to begin with. (By the way, I can't name the store because if I did online, and it was traced back to me, I could get in trouble... Let's just call it the 'Smiley Face Store' and let you use your imagination
LOL!)
Also, my name happens to be one that everybody has shorted to two intials, like A.J. of T.J. That's important to know for this story LOL! And it kind of annoys me when strangers see my name tag at work, and ask what the initials stand for -- I guess it's a pretty harmless question, but I kind of feel uncomfortable about sharing personal information with strangers, you know?
So yesterday, a lady came through my register. She asked me why there were two initials on my name tag. I replied (in a short tone of voice) that it's because that is my name. She said, 'Oh really? Your name is just two letters with dots between them?' I replied that it's not what is on my birth certificate, but that's what everyone calls me!
So she asked me what the initials stand for, and I told her (my tone of voice was pretty dismissive and short... I really don't like telling people I don't know my full name, I guess). She then asked if me if people ask me that question a lot. I replied, 'Every day.' She suggested I just put my first, actual name on my name tag, to which I simply replied, 'Yep,' rather dismissively.
Looking back on it, she was just trying to be friendly... I guess I took it the wrong way and felt she was being a busybody because I was already in a pretty grouchy mood. But excuses, excuses! Back to the story.
So I silently rang through the rest of her items. And then she suddenly pulled out a company discount card. I saw the name...
And it was the new store manager's wife!
I was SO embarrassed! I feel so bad now... I mean sure, I don't really know her. But her husband, the store manager, is amazing. He's so nice and friendly, and a really good role model. Seriously, I admire him a lot -- he's a father, husband, businessman, keeps in great shape for his age, and treats everybody that works under him with respect and kindness. I think he's an awesome guy.
So now I'm really afraid she has told him about how I treated her, and he won't think too much of me... Oh man LOL! It sucks!
TTYL!
Hopefully I will see her again, so I can apologize. I want him to like me LOL!
