These last couple of weeks I developed a Quite Interesting obsession! Literally!!!

Are you familiar with QI ? QI (as in Quite Interesting) is a BBC "comedy panel quiz" (sic) presented by Stephen Fry. Each episode features four panelists/guests that try (and mostly fail) to find the answer on all kinds of impossible questions that Stephen Fry and his "elves" come up with.

So why do I like QI that much? Well, because:

a) it satisfies my Trivial Pursuit "hunger - I am a sucker for all these tidbits of information about everything and anything (and it shows when I play Trivial Pursuit with my friends )

b) it is presented by Stephen Fry who is absolutely brilliant in his role and totally in his element

c) it is so laugh-out-loud funny

I highly recommend it to anyone - Season 1 and 2 have been released on DVD and then of course there is (surprise, surprise!!) YouTube. For example, try this one & then this one
& finally this one .

I close this post with Fry's introduction of QI from Episode 1 of Series 1

"Welcome to QI, the questionnaire where the answers are much more interesting than the questions, but the questions are completely impossible, as I don't really expect anyone to get any of them right, I should be awarding points for being interesting along the way regardless whether the panel's answers are correct or even relevant. So, let just meet the panel who want to commit intellectual suicide tonight."

PS the post's title is a Stephen Fry quote

Well, being interested in everything Fry's ever done ,I, sure, checked that program a few times on YT.And you're right it was funny(although,I have to confess I not always get their jokes - cultural differences plus I'm not that used to British,so I'm plane and simple don't know many words )and what is even more important ,I guess, it's intelligent game show (oh, and that Alan guy is really good in given part of Fry's joke-sparring,cute,but not the brightest straw.. ),but...(why I have always(almost ) have to have a "but" ),I guess, I wouldn't watch it on a regular basis - it's still a game show and I think it's just not my thing -the atmosphere of a contest ,buzzers, competition as a concept - there's something about it that always bothers me. must be some deep childhood issues...but thanks for the links, anyway - I've just come from Fry's blog,so QI felt like kind of a visual for my latest read

I have seen the bits on youtube and liked them... and Fry is right with the question, but I don't think I'll buy the DVDs... he might forgive me

Quiz shows are certainly not everyone's cup of tea, without even taking into consideration whether they are interesting, entertaining or produced well.
However this one, IMO, is quite different and of course Stephen Fry is responsible for a very big part of its ... interestingness (wow, the speller did not underline this word - does this means that it actually exists???? ), its ... funniness (this one too??? ) and success. And Alan is very good in his role of Stephen's alter ego, offsetting Fry's refined wit, manners, humour and use of language.

claudette: I think you should. If you like Stephen Fry, you will definitely enjoy watching a couple of these.

olgkap: I know what you mean about their use of language and references (I won't pretend I get all of them every time ) but I do enjoy Fry a lot and Alan is kind of puppy/boy cute as well !!)

Emilia: I would bet anything that Fry does not care AT ALL about money and DVD sales, so no need to worry . However, he does appreciate (in his own way) our enjoying and appreciating his work

The speller did recognize those words? I always knew they have one crazy-funny speller in here...and it's good to know they are legit -because I,actually, like them a lot.

So would you say that the ... questionability of the correctness of this speller is an issue???? It makes perfect sense !!

I've heard of the show QI but I've never seen it. I will definately have to check out those clips on YouTube. I like Stephen Fry so the DVD's may be something I'm interested in.

I just LOVE QI and Stephen Fry; I'm very lucky; in Belgium we do receive both BBC1 and BBC2 and I try to watch QI every week (when it's on) or I ask my mom to tape it once in a while i cheat by reading what's been said; putting on the subtitles makes it more easy for me to understand

oh, and Trivial Pursuit is fantastic as well (I really like all these kinds of quizzes )

You are so lucky DD! I also enjoyed a lot watching BBC 1 & 2 when I was living in Brussels! But there was no QI at the moment

YES Know and love QI for the same reasons as above mentioned!
I think their airing reruns right now... or a new show? I should watch it on dvd though, cause every now and than a joke gets waisted in background noise of a home.... (grrrrr)

Funny enough the quote... It's how the Dutch version of 'Not the Nine O'clock News' gets introduced!!

They are currently airing Season 5. Their concept, as you know, is to "dedicate" each season to a letter of the alphabet. Season 4 was D, Season 5 is E and so on and so forth. I wonder if they can keep it up to Z which would be in 19 years from now !!!!!

It sounds a little like Whose Line Is It Anyway? (UK) A personal favorite of mine. I look forward to viewing it.
