I'm not quite sure how to respond to this, so please read the article and make your own judgements......
Before I tell the story, let me shed light on whats happening...
In the county I live in, there are three major drop off sites the public can dump their yard waste, like trees, leaves, etc. And then the county grinds them into mulch for the public to use as they please. Its like a huge cycle to keep all the land waste out of the landfills, since Delaware's landfills areridiculously over crowded. The organization that does this is the DSWA, Delaware Solid Waste Authority.
Recently, a crisis occured with the state not being able to fund the drop off sites, which as it says in the article, puts the public in jeopardy in losing the waste centers all together if private operators or staffing aid fail.
So the Delaware News Journal started calling, I guess, random people about their opinions and if they used the yard waste center. Surprisingly, they called my house for that exact reason!
So after a bit of background information and some kind of questionnaire that I took from the interviewer, he asked me my opinion of the problem.
Now, I always use the yard waste center for dumping grass after the lawn is mowed, getting rid of leaves in the Fall when they cover the yard, and also recently when my dad and I had to chainsaw a huge branch that fell from a tree in our back yard during a strong wind storm. We also use it because after the waste center becomes full, the county comes and grinds everything up into mulch, which we use every few months or so to re-mulch the garden (tbh, I hate doing that...
) And if wasn't for that center, we'd have to pay extra fees to get this stuff picked up from the trash company!!!
So, I had a strong opinion about it. Hell, we need that place!!! And to my surprise they used my quote in today's paper, which the exact article could be found on line. You can CLICK HERE to see it. I am mentioned in the last two paragraphs of the article.
I was amazed when my neighbor came up to me when I got home today and told me about it. And when I went into his house and saw the paper myself....I couldn't believe it.
Well, honestly, its not that big of a deal, being that the paper is just within the county and most people didn't even read it, but eh, its something! This kind of thing doesn't happen to you everyday now! ![]()
Yep, that's right. I'm starting my new job at an ice cream palor. The place is called Bruster's, maybe you heard of it before? If not just click on the link and you'll see it. ![]()
Finally after about almost a full month searching around endlessly putting dead end applications, I finally struck gold. And since the place is only 2 miles away from my house, its easily bikable or even better when I can get the car.
I walked there about a week ago with the regular routine, giving the manager the completed application and surprisingly, she told me to walk into the back room. That's when she told me that about four days ago a group of employees on the night shift almost got the place terminated because the same night they left the place a mess right before closing, the corporate inspector popped by for a surprise visit. So needless to say, she was pretty pissed that the six people there almost lost everyone's jobs, and from past experiences with the manager's displeasure, they were going to get fired pretty soon. Which makes more room for new people. *smiles*
So today I went in for the automated test, which just like she said was really easy. Just a read and review, nothing big. I aced that, and now I'm apart of the crew! I should start within the week.
Now, I just gotta meet the employees, because I'm sure that now they have a new kid hired right after the fiasco they had with the manager just a week ago, there's going to be some kind of resentment....I just hope not.
So if by some reason you end up in Newark, come by and get a ice cream cone! hahaha
