We finally got the proverbial monkey off our backs and into the win column. We won 9-7 and I actually for the first time ever had a no-hitter going into the eighth (yeah we had quite a few errors the first couple innings). Then I gave up 3 runs in the eighth but we held on with our shortstop popping a homerun about 10 feet over the top of the 'Boston Green Monster-like fence'. Absolutely crushed it! Everyone had a good time even though it was about 100 degrees with a hot wind blowing.
Let's just keep it rollin. ![]()
Well, another weekend and another game. We had most of our good team together for our second game, but alas, we lost again. If we only had a left fielder that could catch one of the 4 or 5 flyballs hit to him. Then when he does get to the ball throw it back in quickly and not have a conversation with it that goes something like this:
Left Fielder: "Oh look a white round sphere headed this way. I will have to introduce myself."
***Ball falls to ground a foot away from fielder who barely moved and thought the ball must automatically know to fall into his glove***
LF: " Hi, my name is..... It is so nice to see you on such a beautiful day for baseball. How are you?"
Ball: ***Silent***
LF: "Ok, well I have to let you go now. See ya next time. Buh-bye."
Anyways, I know this is a team sport and nobody's perfect. I get it. I made an error in the game trying to pick someone off first. It happens. But 4-5 times?! Easy pop-flys you barely have to move for. I rant because this is a guy that one day told my father in-law after he heard about a game we lost last season that he could have 'pitched better than me' and helped the team win, semi-jokingly. He wasn't even on the team last year. Hey, no problem. A couple players couldn't make it this year so welcome to the club rookie.
He has a good atheletic build for baseball, but apparently the "ability" gene has not matured yet. So as anyone reading this can see why I might tend to point this individual out. He had 5 chances to help the team win. I guess I could have tried harder myself by striking evreyone out (yeah, right), but that's just not going to happen. I'm definitely not even remotely that good.
Our Left Fielder is a good guy, a bit arrogant, but nice enough. It is just sooooo frusterating when you hand the other team the game that we could have won and knew our guys were a better team for most of that day. You have to hand it to the other guys, they didn't fold and played us tough.
We lost 7-4 and our infielders played one heck of a game and made me look pretty decent on the mound. I had 1 earned run through 8 innings and lost. Tough to swallow being 0-2 but we will play again and we are getting better so there is hope for us.
See ya next time.....with a victory!!!!!
My team lost our first game 12 to 11. We only had 4 starters and only 3 of us had experience in this league before. The other 5 were new and back-ups. I am really surprised that we lost by one run. Here was our position run down:
C: Starter. Pinched nerve in the 7th inning and kept going.
1B: Starter. We used our 3rd baseman and he did a great job at first.
2B: Backup. We used an extra guy from the other team who played surprisingly well.
3B: Backup. About 3 or 4 errors later....well you get the picture.
SS: Starter. He is new to the league but did a solid job. He strained his hamstring and also played through it.
LF: Backup. Had no experience at all with organized baseball, more of a football guy. Did ok, 1 error 2 strikeouts.
CF: Backup. He did solid for a fifty year old. Not much speed but read the ball well playing defense.
RF: Backup/Dad. The backup we used popped his knee in his first at bat. This lead to me having ask my dad to play RF and he did so at 63 years old. Only one ball hit to him and he threw it in good. GOOD JOB DAD!!! We were such a MASH unit.
P: Starter. I was the one and only pitcher on the team. It was nine innings or nothing. So about 200+ pitches, 2 calf & 1 quad cramp (since the 6th inning), and a shaky 3rd and 4th pitching inning, we survived. We even were winning 11 to 10 in the top of the ninth and a couple hits and an error later we were down 12 to 11. We did get the bases loaded, 2outs in the bottom of the 9th and the 3rd baseman hit a popfly to left field where the guy just stuck his glove up and caught it. The End.
Hopefully next game we will have most of our regulars but it was an experience this day that's for sure. Next game 4/19/08.
