I feel overwhelmed. We have nine systems heading in to this holiday season. Yep, nine: Gamecube, Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox, 360, PSP, DS, and GBA. I bet you feel overwhelmed too.
Can you remember a time when so many systems were out at once? To top it off, we got two systems debuting this holiday season. Something has to give, and it's most likely going to be me pulling my hair out.
What is a consumer to do? Never has it been so hard to choose what to want this Holiday season. The shiny PS2? A cute Wii? Those new 360 games? The tasty handheld goodies? Past titles that you want and must own? So many decisions...so little time and money.
To top it off, every system has quality. There's something to enjoy with every system. Something worthwhile having. That just make the hard choice of deciding that much harder.
The game companies have it hard too. With 9 systems out, competition and the chance for failure has never been this high. As exciting a time it must be for Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, it must must be beyond scary too. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. I'd go nuts from the stress.
In the end we'll be happy though. We can't have it all, but I'm sure, that no matter what, every consumer will get something enjoyable this season.
...and that's a win/win for us consumers.
