I have to start this with a very clear statement: I am a Nintendo whore. For the past 10 years I have faithfully stood by the N64 and Gamecube as they were called the black sheep console and destined to drag Nintendo into the history books. I stuck to them, never buying an Xbox or Playstation because the gems that were put out on Nintendo systems were worth it.

Yet here I am, thinking that the 360 will be my first purchase this generation. I has games...fun games...pretty games. The Wii...well...how the heck is it winning this war? Are consumers so easily pulled over by something new and exciting?

Readers are no doubt thinking I've somehow shifted my preference, but I haven't. I just wonder what draws people to the Wii. There isn't any software on it that screams out 'buy me' in my opinion. Sure, they're fun games. I enjoy swinging my sword as Link or punching people but that wears thin pretty quick. Twilight Princess is awesome on the GCN so why should I bother with a Wii.

Yet here the little console is outselling everyone else by an impressive margin. How? Why? What is the attraction?

I personally think its the "charm" of the innovative controllers...it catches the masses as the new "trendy thing to have" thing...therefore every Skip, Jed, and Molly Weekend Warrior buy it...not to take anything away from the Wii or Nintendo...

I agree with spiritfall. I think its the novelty of it. People think of wii sports when they think of the wii. Friends of mine who have never gamed have gotten wiis. I think for the more hardcore gamer it can offer something as well, but it's current line up is a little small right now. There's a couple big titles I want, but I'm still holding out until it develops some more.

I think it will, eventually, either get great 3rd party support or it will fade away in favor or PS3/X360. This situation cannot last for long. RIght?

But yes, unless you have a X360, this is a terrible time to be a console gamer. Ironically, handheld gaming never dreamed of being in the situation we are living today. My handheld backlog keeps increasing at a rate I have never seen before. And that being nit-picky with the game selection

Ease,

Wii is perhaps the easiest console to get into for a novice gamer. Personally I rarely play the darn thing, but my girlfriend loves it and even my Father who has not picked up a controller since UN Squadron for SNES is considering getting one. Its a Video Game console for those who find video games too hard, I am with with you in the sense that 360 is delivering the goods, but with that said it seems the masses rule on this one.
