GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

Two words or one sentence. Assassin's Creed. Big disappointment since Star Wars Episode I 1999 premiere. I am really pissed off. It has very good notes everywhere. On IGN and GameSpot. In Polish console magazines. Everywhere. And it's probably the worst game I ever played. Just read my review. I will be very, very happy if just only one GameSpot user wil agree with me...

And yes, you can say - this guy is insane. He gave Gears of War PC version a 10 note. But If you have some time - read it too. Especially Xbox users. It is an ironic, humorous review. Please take no offense dear XBox users. I am not Sony PS3 fanboy. I just take some fun of Halo hype and Xbox design. We must learn to have distance to ourselves.

But I am off topic.

I am tired. Tired of climbing, eavesdropping, interrogating, using counterattack, climbing, interrogating, interrogating, pickpocketing, citizen rescuing, eavesdropping, climbing, climbing, using counterattack, interrogating, pickpocketing, eavesdropping, pickpocketing, using counterattack, citizen rescuing, climbing, using counterattack, eavesdropping, eavesdropping, pickpocketing, interrogating, climbing, climbing, climbing, eavesdropping, using counterattack, climbing, citizen rescuing, citizen rescuing, pickpocketing, pickpocketing...

Why Ubisoft Montreal? Why?!

I agree with you RebelMac, Assassin's Creed does have a lot of repetition. What I enjoyed most about AC is the great environments, engrossing story and the promise that the next game (or games?) will build of of the very solid engine and story.

I agree. It wasn't as great as many have mentioned.

Thank you Carl. Thank you gamingqueen. So I am not alone. Come on - someone else has a similar thoughts?
Posted Jan 13, 2008 8:57 am PT

I have to say everytime i try to play the game Im easily bored and get tried
Posted Jan 13, 2008 9:32 am PT
Yes shadow elite! Bored as hell. And good points edomancer. Bring it on AC not lovers! I am waiting for your comment. And AC lovers too. We have democracy.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 9:38 am PT
Actually I heard many people complained it was repetetive
Posted Jan 13, 2008 9:39 am PT
And you heard a true about this game UltraZero.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 9:46 am PT
....well it is repetitive... When i bought it, i was so happy, but after a few hours of playin, i was really bored...
Posted Jan 13, 2008 9:50 am PT
Another bored GameSpot user. So why 9 notes everywhere? Hype? Or maybe Jeff absence? I wonder what note would Jeff give... Thank you for your comment sweet_tear.

Too bad you didn't like it. I did. I think is a good proposal more on the experimental side. Now that they have seen the goods and the bads, Assassin's Creed 2 must be way better. If not, it would be a dissapointment.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 9:57 am PT
And I think that the game is an engine presentation. Truly nice engine. And rate my review boys and girls. Be honest. Thank you for reading and a comment stanhigareda.

I haven't played it myself, but I don't intend to either. I'm just not a fan of constant repetition, no matter how pretty that repetition may be.

If you can get your hands on a copy of Electronic Gaming Monthly, the one with the Street Fighter 4 cover on it, the game was reviewed and given three different scores by the three different reviewers: 7.0, 6.0, and 4.5.

Admittedly, it's because of these very scores that Ubisoft Montreal has refused to send EGM any more copies of their games. It goes to show you what honesty gets you these days: Cold looks from everyone else. EGM told it like it is, and apparently, Ubi didn't like that. Of course this is the same magazine that gave GRAW1 an average score of 9.5, that gave PoP: Sands of Time 2003's GotY. But one "poor" review later and BAM.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 10:12 am PT
I found it very enjoyable, just there wasn't much to go back to.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 10:13 am PT
Smart words EarthThatWas. NeonNinja - thanks for info. 4.5? I like EGM already. And good for you dragonwarlock77. Thank you for your comments dear readers.

I have not played this game... but it kinda reminds me of Thief Deadly Shadows in a way. You do the same thing in it. So sad that companies can not come up with fresh ideas!
Posted Jan 13, 2008 10:23 am PT
I am waiting for a PC version, then i can judge ...thnx for letting us know RebelMac
Posted Jan 13, 2008 10:30 am PT
Nah. Thief was good. And idea is fresh. Rest is silence. Thank you for comment bicycle sporting-girl. I mean Sandpiper121PP. 121PP?
Posted Jan 13, 2008 10:30 am PT
Hmm. Gfile - I am waiting for your PC review. Really. And thanks for comment.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 10:40 am PT
Unfortunately, if you can't get passed the repetitiveness... AC is a rather uninteresting game. However, if you enjoy free-running then this game is Ace. Anyway... Is not for everyone.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 10:50 am PT
Definitly not for me. And I see that readers of my review have another point of view. Recommended by 1 of 3 users. Thank you for comment Thomas.

I have a few games that remind of this. They start out nice but lose the appeal after awhile and don't have much replay value. There is always something good like a graphics or acting. but the whole package isn't there. More time needs to be spent on some of these high profile games before putting them on the shelf...especially with the price tags they carry now.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 11:45 am PT
And you are right iowataste. Too much hype.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 11:47 am PT
It is repetitive, but not the worst game ever. It has a lot nice things to offer, too. Graphics, animation, effects are very good. Game mechanics are also good. But they really did not put much afford in scripting or creative game structure. And it is too easy and doesn't require strategy. I lost my motivation to play it after the 7th kill now but I guess I will finish it some day.

Interesting info NeonNinja... it's kinda shocking.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 11:59 am PT
Exactly. Graphics, animation and effects only. And info is shocking indeed. Thanks for comment cat. I mean MogFromLepizig.

I agree with you. AC was a big disappointment to me. I still can't believe it got a 9.0 in this site.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 1:12 pm PT
I agree with you too
Posted Jan 13, 2008 1:21 pm PT
I always appreciate when a gamer is couragous enough to criticize a highly praised game. I haven't played this game yet, but have a feeling that what you wrote is accurate. Ubisoft is a favorite game maker of mine too, so I son't want them to dissapoint their fans
Posted Jan 13, 2008 1:24 pm PT
Too bad for Assassin's Creed. I heard it wasn't too hot. It just goes to show you that hype is a two-sided blade.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 2:48 pm PT
Love the last part! But yeah I totally agree with you. Every city follows the same freaking pattern! Ubisoft developed other aspects of the game very well, but it feels like they just tacked on the core gameplay. Assassin's Creed has so much potential, and would be 100% better if they just spent a little more time on the gameplay elements. I mean adding a little variety or different kinds of missions (GTA St y le) to gather information isn't so hard.

However, I still enjoy AC. Once you get past all the eavesdropping, interrogating, using counterattack, climbing, interrogating, interrogating, pickpocketing, the hits themselves are pretty entertaining and well put together (although they don't last too long ). The environments and city designs are also breathtaking, and I love climbing buildings and using throwing knives.

Assassin's Creed is definitely over rated by most game sites. Your review is honest, even though I disagree with your score, it gets my recommendation.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 2:55 pm PT
It goes to show people that no matter how good the graphics and story are GAMEPLAY will ALWAYS be the main reason on why a game is good or bad...

Although, a good story might keep you playing no matter how bad the gameplay is
Posted Jan 13, 2008 3:11 pm PT
The first time I played it, I was in awe, then as the minutes go on and you finish the first few missions, it becomes repetitive and annoying. It makes me wonder just how much of this game GS play before they reviewed it.
Posted Jan 13, 2008 7:34 pm PT
Oh man, guys check this out, the dude that reviewed this game only had 0 achievement points at the time of the review the review was written, and only got 60 five days after the review went up, not cool at all.

I liked it but it was only good for one playthrough. Not much to go back too.

Mmm, sounds like 2007s worst game?
Posted Jan 14, 2008 6:19 am PT
I'l wait too for the PC version as Gfile but I will read your review, thanks for the advice, I hate to buy a game that is not worth it
Posted Jan 14, 2008 6:57 am PT
i can see what you mean. but i guess in the end it all depends on the player. i rather enjoy the climbing, interrogating, pickpocketing....... it lulls me into a very relaxed state that takes me away from the stresses of my daily life, almost like being hypnotized as the moves become almost automatic and my eyes start to get dreamy and... *sigh of contentment* but that's just me
Posted Jan 14, 2008 7:16 am PT
I agree completely with the review, it made me laugh a few times because everything you said was so true but I think the rating was a little harsh tbh, Id say a 6.0 to around 7.0, but thats just my opinion.
Posted Jan 14, 2008 8:01 am PT
Devvy01 - The worst game I bought in 2007.
OtakuRay - You may like it. It's only my opinion.
mariwitch - If it was relaxing for you then it doesn't matter- bad or good game.
TyZeRViRuS - I was thinking about 5.0 or 6.0 (for graphics, animation etc.) but 5.0 is a mediocre and this game is poor.
Posted Jan 15, 2008 1:36 am PT
so i've heard, i guess combination of Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia is a bad idea, or maybe they'll improve this game on the 2nd one
Posted Jan 15, 2008 5:34 am PT
PredatorRules - maybe, maybe... We will see.
Posted Jan 15, 2008 1:45 pm PT
Every game is about repetition and GS is not a reliable source of reviews not counting some excellent user reviews. GS has dumbed down just like their review system...

For reliable reviews check mobygames.com and for loads of games visit gry-online.pl
Posted Jan 16, 2008 1:47 pm PT
Przemo - I am starting to see that. Some GameSpot reviews are...well..strange. And gry-online? Yah. 9.5?
Posted Jan 16, 2008 2:09 pm PT
I did'nt play it I want to,but hey man your entitled to your own opinion and voice.LET IT BE HEARD!
Posted Jan 16, 2008 3:34 pm PT
JoeGio7 - Thanks.
Posted Jan 16, 2008 11:45 pm PT
You don't have to be a fanboy to realize how bad the 360 is...just talk to anybody or ahem eavesdrop on conversations and it is a consensus and i'm befuddled as to how or why it is still sold anyhoo i digress into almost fanboyhood anyhoo here is a VERY humorous take on AC I will warn ya there is some language in it but it is SWEET http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2694-Zero-Punctuation-Assassin-s-Creed
