The sun is going to supernova, people have to be evacuated to safe cities underground, and the main character's wife is afraid of a serial killer who is about to be executed. It seems like that's enough to make an exciting Sci-Fi film, but it doesn't work.

The filmmakers couldn't decide to set it in South Africa, where it was filmed, or in Australia. There's no real reason to set it in Australia, and stock footage of Sydney is about as close as it gets. It's obviously South Africa, but many of the characters speak with American accents (not just the American actors, either).

The serial killer thing really has nothing to do with the whole story, and just makes it more confusing. With a really compelling performance by the stars, they could have made the end product at least watchable, in spite of the already mentioned questionable choices, but that doesn't happen either because of one man: Luke Perry. That's right, Luke Perry is the main guy in this flick. That should prevent you from watching it right there, because he is terrible.

In the end though, (since you won't be watching it) Luke's character discovers the world's top scientists made a math error, there isn't going to be a supernova, we'll be fine, just ignore the widespread destruction from over-active sunspots.

This film was much better than I expected. I found the acting to be quite good. Most of the cast were relatively unknown, but all put in fine performances. The two guys playing the paramedics did an outstanding job and the little girl was great....

The two guys playing the paramedics did an outstanding job and the little girl was great. Some people have criticized the ending, but I thought it was appropriate and congratulate the filmmakers for putting it in. Many American films insist on a happy ending regardless of whether it ruins the story or not. This is a good movie. Low budget, but better than most of the high profile high budget flicks being cranked out these days.

“The Patriot�’ is an excellent motion picture that shows a slice of the American War of Independence. Mel Bigson plays a composite character named Captain Martin. Many Americans have trouble relating to the idea of a war with Britain, so this film shows some of the unpleasantness of the times.

While the writing, cinematography, costuming and effects are all commendable and deserving of awards, the acting really stands out. Mel Gibson is outstanding as he often is, but Heath Ledger made his mark in this film as Gibson’s son. Though I often find children tedious in films the youthful actors here are all amazing. Gregory Smith and Mika Boorem are both stand-outs as two of the Martin children. Adam Baldwin, Jason Isaacs, Lisa Brenner, Tchéky Karyo and Leon Rippy’s performances would have been award winning had they been leads.

Tony Goldwyn is perhaps the only actor / director in motion picture history to have portrayed someone in a film and later directed that same person. If the show called for people who could do entertaining re-creations of other artists’ songs, even redoing a famous artist’s music video on stage, Jill would be so good for that. Unfortunately she was on the show “Rock Star” and her lack of originality really hurt her. She was especially disappointing when she tried to do songs originally done by female artists, because she could not repress her ability to mimic. She was okay when she did songs originally done by male artists, because she couldn’t mimic them. On the other hand, when she did she embarrassed herself by grinding on Gilby Clark’s leg like a dog in heat. She nearly looked as foolish as Zayra Alvarez. On the other hand, Zayra stayed in the contest longer so maybe Jill should have humped and grinded more.

I was watching him as Matthews in Horatio Hornblower, and right in the middle I saw a few episodes of Cracker, where he played a medical examiner, and he was so natural at both characters that I had no difficulty in accepting him in such different roles. Often seeing an actor in two widely differing roles, especially when one is a period piece, can be disconcerting, but he does such a good job. I hope to see him in some other parts.

I personally think that the steady improvement in her performances over the first five weeks of the show frightened the skittish and insecure rock “geniuses” of Supernova and the felt they had to get rid of her before she became too good and eclipsed them all.

She worked the stage well enough to get my vote. She did everything the boys wanted Dana to do, but they said her vocals were in question.

I don’t think it was so much the vocals, but after a number of people were criticized for not bringing enough rock, and the need for “ugly” performances was made clear, our Jen broke out the acoustic guitar and went soft. Matt was canned for a similar bad music choice, so it’s not surprising that got her the boot.

Now I like her. I’m more than willing to listen to anything she decides to record. If she wants to come over to my place, she can. Enough said.

But when his butt was on the line, he went with Duran Duran. Not a speed metal version of a Duran Duran song, but a Duran Duran version of a Duran Duran song.

If he had stayed in the competition he might be one of the favorites. But somehow, he thought, "Motley Crue, Metalica, Guns n Roses ... I bet these guys are big Duran Duran fans!"
