Since I'm against sending union invites, for the most part. I want to do a blog to inform some friends of mine that enjoy anime, or manga, to check out a union that a good friend of mine made.

This union is called The Anime Luvers Union. It's of course a union about anime, but also random chatter is welcome. This was a union a few years back, but was deleted, but now it's back.

I know some of my friends are into anime, so I thought I'd just let you know. Don't worry about it being a dead union. The leader and officers are all excited about anime, and enjoy posting a lot.

If anime's not your thing, that's fine, I don't want to bother anyone who's not interested.

It's been a good while since I did a blog, and I really didn't have any ideas of what to blog about. Then I got the idea to do a blog about a recent anime I've really been getting into.

This anime is called Soul Eater. This is a comedy/action anime about 3 students who attending a school in Death City, which is run by the Grim Reaper/Shinigami himself. Students at this school learn and train to kill evil spirits and demons to make the world a better place. The goal of every student is to gain 99 evil souls and 1 witch soul, which will make their weapon a Death Scythe which is the strongest of the weapons. Students are in pairs of 2; one is the weapon meister, the other IS the weapon. Certain students have the ability to transform into weapons and they're partnered up with a soul that shares the same wavelength as theirs.

Soul Eater follows Maka and her Weapon Soul Eater(Scythe), Black Star and his weapon Tsubaki(Shuriken, Smoke Bomb, Katana, etc), and the Grim Reaper's son, Death the Kid and his weapons Liz and Patty Thompson(Dual Pistols). Soul Eater is filled with many colorful characters such as Maka's emotional and attempted ladiesman, DeathScythe, the Shinigami, Franken Stein, and many others.

An on going thing with Soul Eater is most of the evil spirits in Soul Eater are reincarnations of famous faces in movies, etc. People such as Jack the Ripper, Friday the 13th's Jason, and so on.

If you're interested in checking this anime out at all here's a link to a site that streams the current episodes that's released. There will be 51 episodes in total and if you're a fan of this type of anime (ghosts, action, comedy, shounen) you should enjoy it. I find this a tad similar to Bleach, but I see it as most entertaining myself.

Just to inform any readers what a mini-review is to me. A mini-review is for games I want to tell people about, but I don't feel they really need to be fully reviewed by me. When I review games I usually try to have it in a narrative kind of format, where I try to refrain from using "you, I" and other words I feel are words you'd use when you're talking to a person. So my mini-reviews will feel more as if I'm talking to you, instead of talking at you. So, mini-reviews aren't going to be for games I didn't enjoy or for games I couldn't thinking of a lot to talk about in a review, they're just going to be for games I rate and prefer to talk to readers about. I'm sure you're probably a tad bit confused but we'll continue anyway.

___

First off, I picked this game up for $3.99 at my local GameStop. For the price I paid, I definitely feel this game was worth the asking price. On the other hand, if I picked this up for say $40-$60, I would be a bit upset after I beat the game.

Prey has it's ups and downs, like most games, but Prey has some pretty bad downs, that seems to just be from laziness. This is one of those games what were in a long, long development, I want to say this was in it for 9 years, or so, and the finished project feels like it was in development for 6 months. The game really feels like the people in the back got lazy, or tired of working on it, and just rushed it at the end.

Prey has interesting ideas and things in the game that could make it an enjoyable purchase for $20 or cheaper. Prey is one of the newer games to introduce gamers to portal traveling in gaming. We've seen portals in many games, but for the most bit they were in cutscenes and things like that, but in Prey you travels to all kinds of portals to get to new locations, and that's one of the big things Prey has going for it. The graphics are also another positive in the game. The graphics aren't the best in the world of gaming, but I though they were pretty good, a little dated, but okay. The weaponry in the game is also pretty unique. All weapons are basically living, as you can see in the game. All the weapons will move around while you're carrying them around. Another thing in the game I consider good and bad is the plot of Prey. The plot is something we've seen plenty of times before, in some form or fashion, but Prey also did a new twist with it, which is good and bad.

Even though Prey does have a lot of good things going for it, it does have it's bad. For instance.. after about 30 minutes into the game or so you're able to basically never die. When you die you go to the spirit world, where you need to shoot blue and red birds to recover health and spirit energy. Every time you die you go to this mode, you get your health and spirit energy and return to where you died, monsters still there and all. It really makes the game way too easy. With a campaign so short in Prey, they could of at least made it more difficult. The story mode consists of 21 levels, which really feels more like 5 or 6 levels cut up into 21 levels.I'm sure you can beat the campaign in one setting if you have nothing better to do that day. Even though the weapons in the game are different and interesting, they're not completely a positive aspect in the game. The weapons are "living" but that's it, they move. They don't really evolve or anything, which would of been nice seeing you only get a hand full of weapons. This game virtually has no replay value, either. When you beat the game you unlock a concept gallery.. really? Who really cares to unlock a concept art gallery with like 9 pictures? There's another gallery, but you have to beat the "harder" difficulty to unlock it. It's really pointless, no one strives to finish a game for a concept gallery. Yeah, there's online play, but I doubt you'll find many people playing it. I have no tried the online, and I doubt I ever really will.

The story in Prey is a run-of-the-mill kill the aliens and save your girl and save the world stories rolled into one. Also throw in Cherokee Indians, and you have Prey. The story is different in it's own way, but the Cherokee story tied in really doesn't mix, and seems like it hurts the story more than helps. You get this spirit mode, where you can cross certain areas you can't in human body, and you can sneak around corners with it, but other than that it's not really useful at all. Prey is also a must buy for you easy achievement whores out there. In my first play through, just finishing the game on Normal, and getting 3 secret achievements for reaching credits on arcade games, I finished with a score of 675 points on the game. All single player achievements are level completion achievements, finishing the game on Normal or Cherokee difficulty, the 3 secret arcade games ones, and finally the rest are online related.

Overall Prey, is definitely worth a buy if you can find it dirt cheap, like I did. It has it's issues like any game, but if you picked this up at launch price, then you probably traded it back in, the next day after you finished the story, or feel bad you made that mistake. I enjoyed the story time I had with the game, the story was fun, and the gameplay was enjoyable for the most part. There's somethings I didn't talk about in this mini-review, but it's nothing anyone will really miss.

Thanks for reading this "mini"-review. It actually came out longer than I planned. I will probably do more of these in the future for some more games I feel I don't need to do a full on review of.

Some people just don't have opinions. Like REGAMER-X.
REGAMER-X must really love MovieTome and agree with every review we've ever written! What other reason could REGAMER-X possibly have for not rating a single film?
