From today's news story on Sony's half-year financial report:

Though it did not break out Sony Computer Entertainment's earnings, Sony did say that "sales in game business decreased year on year primarily as a result of the appreciation of the yen as well as a decrease in unit sales of PlayStation 2 hardware and software." The company's admission comes just two days after it used the the platform's ninth birthday to declare the PS2 was "showing no signs of slowing down."

So, the PlayStation 2 is showing signs of slowing down, then? Why didn't they just say that in the first place?

Some companies really try to spin bad news in a positive way....

I have a feeling that Sony is saying that because they want their first place back.

Heh, you almost sound surprised. Oh come on, big corporations are always playing to the stockholder, not us mere peons. Of course they lie. There is a whole slew of unknowledgeable people who've poured (sum total) billions into the company. They have to convince those people the company is doing fine and to keep the money there. They don't give a rat's ass what we hear.

Oh thats just PR babble. A generic statement pulled out of the generic statments box for a throw away comment. I doubt they even re-read it let alone expected anyone to take it seriously. Just a silly little statment bashed out in two minutes before they go back to trying to justify Home.

I've always found Sony to be a terrific liar, people bought a number of dubious and/or pricey Sony products and pitches over the years and still kept coming back for more in numbers that kept the conglomerate afloat. Plus, they have a portfolio of statements to use, this is the one that they were always waiting to use.

I think you guys were spot on on the podcast, seems like that is only a select part of the line "a decline not slowing down!".
