As many of you know, Konami and Atomic Games were working on a new video game called Six Days in Fallujah. United States Armed Forces members who fought in this battle requested that this game be made, to tell the terrible of story of the Second Battle of Fallujah, and let a wider audiance experiance it.
Konami dropped out of the project after being flamed by families who had loved ones die in the Iraqi War and a British anti-war group, Stop The War Coalition. Peter Tamte, one of the developers at Atomic Games who is working on the project has this to say:
"For us, the challenge was how do you present the horrors of war in a game that is also entertaining, but also gives people insight into a historical situation in a way that only a videogame can provide? For us, games are not just toys. If you look at how music, television, and films have made sense of the complex issues of their times, it makes sense to do that with videogames."
Tansy E Hoskins, spokesperson for Stop The War Coalition says the attack was, "...amongst the worst of the war crimes carried out in an illegal and immoral war."
It is estimated that up to 1,000 deinzens of Fallujah were killed in the raid. While some of the refugees escaped the city, 45.454545% of them stayed in there houses as the troops attacked. One of the most controversial aspects of the battle was the type of weaponry used.
The allied forces of America and Great Britain used illegal and deadly weaponry to attack the city. This included the immoral use of white phosphorus. White phosphorus is a powerful incendiary agent. It burns very quickly and can easily catch clothing, skin, and fuel munitions a flame. This was used widely and contributed highly to the deaths of many.
One thing people do not understand is that American forces were not, repeat NOT, ordered to kill all civilians. We were given PERMISSION to kill any and all plausable threats. We had to put the safety of the world and the ideal needs of humanity before the needs of the civilians. The needs of the many over the needs of the few.
If people are causing a publisher to abandon a project to spread the story of an important mission in the Iraqi War, then why just this one? In World War II, the Nazis killed over a milion Jewish citizens, yet no one is trying to stop them for any other reason besides the abundance of them. If you will let the market fill up with games about one of the worst historical events, then why not let one game come out about current events?
