For me, 2009 is all about Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2. But I find myself even more excited about the excellent games coming out next year, such as sequels to established franchises and a little something new from a few promising titles, for two of my favorite platforms - the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

360 - SC: Conviction, Mass Effect 2, Ghost Recon 4, Alan Wake, Halo Reach
PS3 - God Of War 3, Dante's Inferno, The Last Guardian, Heavy Rain, GT 5
These are my top picks for next year. What are yours?

Although many sequels typically end up being "just not as good as the first," Uncharted 2's improved campaign (with online co-op?) and additional multiplayer sound promising, so I can understand where you are coming from. Still, I would probably have to go with MW2 for my day one purchase this year, even though it will most likely be more of the same COD we've been seeing since 4.
@Battlesword: I'm looking forward to BioShock 2 just as much as the next person, but I don't think it will be a day one purchase for me. Even though the multiplayer sounds intriguing, it's not what interests me, and to this day I've only played through the original twice. Honestly, I can't stand picking up new games only to beat them less than 3 days later and find myself moving on. BioShock was spectacular in almost every single way, don't get me wrong, I just never felt compelled to play through it again immediately after beating it.
@ChiefFreeman: Never played any of the original OPs and people are claiming that this game inspired the COD series. Even if they are correct, I haven't seen much footage for this release so I remain skeptical, however, keeping it on my radar.
@TrueBlue: Thanks for including a game which was not on my list - if Wolfenstein is a day one purchase for you then it is a definite rental for me...and I mean that in a positive way dude not to sound like a d****!
I guess the real question should have been what are some of your day one purchases for this year? Oh, and L4D2 coming out less than a year later, sorry to say, sounds like a cash in to me (again, not trying to sound like a pr*ck)!
I totally agree with your opinion, Uncharted looks like a breath of fresh air for the shooter market, however I am really hoping for outstanding production values to warrant the purchase...I'm quite picky when it comes to PS3 titles.
Yeah, and about Dark Sector, cutting people into pieces never got old, but the incredibly shallow storyline, bland and lifeless environments and respawning enemies really got on my nerves. Even at the current $15 selling price I wouldn't even think of revisiting that mess of a game.
My PS3 and 360 are starving for new games this year so I am reluctant to splurge on more than a few good titles.
My question to you is this: would the new Splinter Cell make you consider purchasing a 360? If not, are there any new 360 exclusives that would?
Mass Effect, even though available on PC, is definitely a system seller. ME2 will be another day one purchase next year for me hands down. Right now, Mass Effect, Gears of War and Halo 3 (juuust barely) are games reason enough to own a 360. Here's to hoping the new Splinter Cell, Forza Motorsport and Alan Wake can expand upon those boundaries...
I'll admit it though, Borderlands happens to look refreshingly fantastic...but my entire collection (360) is composed mainly of SHOOTERS and sadly this one doesn't exactly peak my interest when compared to the 20 other games that I will be picking up on release day between now and the end of 2010. I should probably update my blogs more often because I bumped Uncharted 2 up to a day one purchase, so that would leave Borderlands at the top of my "must play" list (try before U buy hehe).
also i gonna put and Prototype because New York in quarantine bro that is awesome !!!
