PPARENTLY I'm not allowed to do a contest with money involved. It was originally a thing where you answer the following question correctly and you may win $10,000.  The question: give two numbers, such that, when added together, equals a numerical variant of tomorrow's date (such as 20060718 ), and when the lower subtracted from the higher, gives some whole-number logarithm of 1000 in a base that equals the difference between your age and my age. When submitting the answer, also submit your proof. You can still answer the question, but I'm not allowed to do a contest.

Okay, while you're off gleefully working on this mathematical mindbender, I shall tell the others of my weekend. It was fairly hot here and I didn't do much. My friend Jon from Allentown visited. We worked it out that I would then visit Allentown sometime between the 1st and the 8th of August (my birthday!). This will be the first in a series of big steps to my relocating. I've lived in State College for 14 years now, and I've outgrown my welcome here big-time. I'm just about ready to move on. When I go to Allentown, I'm going to look at apartment places in some of the nice areas there. I gotta get a plan together first, though, with some phone numbers of important people to talk to. I want to establish some professional contacts while I'm there, too, so that looking for a job might be a little easier. *keeping fingers crossed*

In other areas, I just hit level 50 on mp3.com over the weekend. The rank is "Grizzly". I don't know where it comes from, but somewhere in the music biz. There is no level 51 yet, so what happens is, your progress just comes to a screeching halt at Level 50:0%. It's roughly 100 times as hard to level up after that. mp3.com is a bit flaky in that percentages of a level are not shown to anyone except the user him/herself. I think the highest person has 9%. What's even crazier is that I went from Level 12 to Level 50 in only 6 weeks, by doing nothing except visit and comment on my friends' blogs.

Well, I was gonna say you lost me at "logarithm" (the day those were introduced was about the time I started ditching math class...) but the truth is you lost me at "numerical..." Congrats on level 50 over at mp3 & good luck w/ the Allentown transition!

Hey everybody.. Thanks for stopping by! LOL Drea, no tests..

KFC, you're as funny as you are cute I hope you can keep that sense of humor through your upcoming delivery!

Jekyll, yeah, there are a few of "us", but it's totally not worth it. I was REALLY hoping that one would level up by being "editor" of artists and adding albums and songs and the like. Somewhat of a parallel to tv.com. Plus, the staff are even LESS responsive at mp3.com. TOTALLY not worth it.

Interesting.

Congrats on your new level.

I also ran screaming from your math problem. There's a joke that went around the history department when I was getting my Masters that said that we all choose history because we can't do math. In some cases, it's true. I can do math. That problem? Nope. You lost me in your first sentence.

The trick with the math problem was that only certain people could answer it, first of all.. The people who knew my birthday as well as their own. They were only supposed to use the difference in years, because that's a whole number. Decimal-point bases used in log problems are WAY too complicated for math anyway. In any case, it was the most hairy kind of math problem I could think of
