Alright, I'm in the process of finishing my review of Batman… I finished 90% of the game with 7 trophies left (excluding the Platinum and 100% trophy) so I think it's pretty safe to say my final impressions of the game!
Alright here we go:
You read my blog's title, and my question to all of you is Batman Arkham Asylum Overhyped???
Alright let me begin by saying that I thought the game was great, definitely ONE of the best games of this year, and most importantly it makes you feel like "The Dark Knight"!
It definitely had its moments… *SPOILERS*………………. The Scarecrow parts were great, and I've never seen anything like it in any video game, the stealth sequences were really enjoying that are actually comparable to the stealth in Metal Gear Solid…
The Content in the game was really huge, with 240 riddles, 16 challenge rooms, 10-12 hour Single Player Campaign… (The Point?) A Definite Game of the year nominee…
Overyped?
My Opinion: YES! YES! YES!
Wait before you begin by insulting me, and begin typing on the comments section, READ why I think it is!
First of all, IT WILL NOT WIN GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD! It will be a nominee, but its NOT gonna win, let me tell you why… when a game wins game of the year, its being put in the same league as the "BEST GAMES OF ALL-TIME" and this game in my opinion does not belong in that league…
The Fun factor in my opinion decreases as you play the game… and it eventually at some points of the game becomes frustrating! Yes… it gets old!!!
Boss fights: meh… yes, why in gods name was the final boss unchallenging?!? And I was playing at hard mode! Plus, a lot are kind of similar, which makes the game a bit flat for me…
A lot of people are really making it sound as if this is the best game of all time… I mean its great, don't get me wrong I'm not bashing the game, BUT its not all that! If you compare it to other games out there…
I personally enjoyed inFamous much more… Why? (I'll need to type another blog, if you actually care 
)
What do you think, is this game overhyped or not??

I think it's overhyped too. I mean, it's a great game, but maybe doesn't deserve all the attention it's getting

It's overhyped if you go by people who think it's the greatest thing ever, but they're probably rabid Batman fans so it's understandable. It's NOT overhyped if you take it as the greatest Batman game that's been released to date...which it is.
But that's my 2.5 cents!

This game is overhyped I 100% agree with you, anyone that bashes you doesn't respect your opinion mate. If anything Modern Warfare 2 will most likely win GOTY award, I mean look how good Modern Warfare's story was? Thats my thoughts on it, good luck on the trophies, and looking forward to your review!

Thinking about it now.. Batman: Arkham Asylum is indeed, a little over-hyped. Sure, the combat system is fun and the stealth challenges are a blast, but they only last for so long. After you earn the Platinum trophy, there really isn't anything else to do except try to beat other people's scores on the challenge map leaderboards. And I am not a huge fan of leaderboards.. One day when I placed #263 on one of the challenge maps, the next day I was #1257... No joke. That's what happens when lots of people play a popular game

@ClassicPlayer: I hate to argue, but I just had to point this out... If anything, it's Modern Warfare 2 that is going to be massively over-hyped. Sales predictions for the game are rising to 11 million copies sold in the first 2 months. I seriously doubt that would happen... But I could be wrong. Still, Modern Warfare 2 is looking to be very over-hyped by the media and fans alike, who still cling to their COD4 game copies as if they are their children. For god's sake, I wish they could just get a different damn game already! There are some people on my friends list on PSN who play nothing besides Call of Duty 4 and (the occasional) Call of Duty: World At War. Jeez. It's insane.

@tennis12master-I've only played CoD4 and WaW, and I know what you mean. I've got at least 4 people on PSN that play either one of them every day, heck I've even known a guy from school that ONLY plays that. Kinda silly but then again, they like the games alot.

No I wouldn't call it overhyped but I'm yet to try inFAMOUS and I have my eyes on Uncharted 2 so I doubt Arkham will win GOTY but like you said it's definitely a nominee. Nice opinions and I look forward to your review.

I tried the demo and it was OK. But I don't personally think it'd fit in the greatest games of all time. Only some games as Uncharted, Mario 64 and Half-Life 2 would fit in this section (Imo).

I think it's quite overhyped, too. The boss battles weren't boss battles at all, the fighting got repetitive etc.

Well, you said it yourself, the last boss fight was way too easy. The ending was also terrible in my opinion, not a very great way to wrap up the story. A great idea is crushed by Batman's own morality... Oh well. It's still a great game.

All i care about is that the game is fun and this one sounds like it is so I would enjoy it.
Even Oblivion and Fallout3 get boring after awhile and they were GOTY so I take a break , play something else and then go back later. Batman:AA is not the first and will not be the last game to get overhyped, but at least this one had reason for it because it is so close.

@iowastate- nope, Fallout 3 nor oblibion were not AIAS GOTY (overall) God of war was, Gears was, Haalf life, INCREDIBLE GAMES!! Gamespot GOTY is only one GOTY award!

I really dint like that much I gave it an 8.It was good but not great actually I really hated the game when you where stuck most of the time with dective view and you had to ignore the great graphics.It may be the best batman game ever but is not let say game of the year worthy.

So, how does a game get overhyped if the major reason it's getting attention is "word of mouth"? I've seen more positive blogs and forum posts on Batman than any recent game in memory. If the hype is coming from the people playing the game, I'm all for that kind of hype. The kind of hype that I dislike is on games that aren't released...like Classic Player pointed out, he's already putting COD MW2 as the game of the year...and yet, he hasn't played the game. While I understand COD MW2 will be a massive hit, no matter what the reviews will be, why not wait until the game is released before hyping it.

eh, I love the game, ive been hooked on it ever since it came out...only stopped now because I got stuck on the game on hard mode (beat it once on normal...and am on my way through hard mode...stuck at the first henchmen/titain henchmen fight in the sewers after stopping joker from polluting the water) no matter what I do I always freaking die during that part...for me its GOTY so far, nothing else this year thus far has blown me away like Batman has.

It didn't even have hype, how WAS it overhyped? Nobody particularly waited for it, everyone expected a generic brawler. The actual "hype" appeared in the period between the first reviews and the release dates. Not enough time to build up a hype large enough to appear as too much for a game this deep. I mean, how much MORE did you want? It is a miracle such a B-man title is out at all.
Sorry to have to argue but my point of view screams the above. And one more thing. You sad that it won't win in the GOTY because in your opinion it doesn't belong in the best of all-time league. I don't think that's a reason objective enough. Mainly because it DOES belong there, it even broke a Guinness record as the highest-selling superhero game in the history. And sales are always the real truth.

@LGTX- it won a guiness world record because all the other games were crap and it was good! Wii Sports also is the best selling game in the world but that doesnt make it the best game, heck its one of the worst! it belongs in best games of all time??? WTF!! dude, can u compare it with God of War?? Half-Life? Halo? Gears of War? Diablo? NO! This is what I mean by overhyping it, ur calling it the best game EVER! when really if u look at ur previous games, its just a great game, nothing more... dude, i dont deny it was awesome, but its not the best! it was best at its category which is superhero like superman etc... its the best cause all of the rest suck! inFAMOUS was a much better game if u compare it to Batman... Batman is way overhyped, Exhibit A: Xbox official magazine calling it "Game of the Year"

@BlOoDyDeAtH360 - from my guess u only own a 360 from ur username and this year that console didnt have a strong lineup like last year! but when were talking about Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, and inFAMOUS! those games wipe the floor with that game! I've played hard mode, and the combat was just frustrating!

@luc11044- this kind of hype is worse in my opinion! cause theyre making the game sound as if its the best game in history, WHILE ITS NOT! Modern Warfare 2 is hyped do u know y??? do u know y? uve been talking that oh its overhyped watever.... were talking about the sequel to "Game of the Year 2007" (AIAS) were talking about the sequel to the best selling game this generation (Wii sports excluded) sequel to the most played game online on Xbox live! the sequel to the multiplayer that is still played to this very day, even after WAW got released... one of the highest acclaimed games this gen.... heck if this is not hyped!!! theres something wrong in this world!

@PSFreak1, I never said it was the best. It just so happens with games bearing sudden success, when you don't expect a game to be great from the announce, it never becomes great for you. Not even if you acknowledge its success. That has happened to me many times.
And no, you're right, it's not comparable with God of War and games like such. And overhyping is not overrating. You're deifnitely referring to the game as overrated. With that I can agree, as less facts are involved.

Most games are over hyped though, it's hard not for a game gathering good previews to not get hyped up slightly. Of course the reason you've probably noticed there being more hyping around is because it was also a commercial success. I didn't think it was too badly hyped if i'm honest.

@PSFreak1: oh no, no no no lol I ust to only own a 360, now I have all 3 consoles, and the 360 is my least favorite. I prefer the PS3 above em all, but even still after playing inFAMOUS (I still own it as well) Killzone 2 (sold will be rebuy soon probably) Uncharted 2 (which I have pre-ordered and paid off) but so far Batman Arkham Asylum was the first game to absoutely wow me, inFAMOUS was close, but so far Batman is pretty damn good for me. Killzone 2 is a pretty good game, im just personally not that much of an FPS fan, im more an RPG person like Final Fantasy, Demons Souls (which is a really good game btw, ive had it for a few months now) etc. I do play FPS's but they do tend to get pretty boring really quickly for me. I am looking forward to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, but I already know I wont play it for that long as opposed to stuff like NGS2, Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed 2, etc comming out.
but yeah, lol I dont just own a 360, ive had my PS3 since July last year, and my Wii since November last year ^_^

@PSFreak: you dont like cel-shaded graphics? o.0 I wish all games had cel-shaded graphics, I personally like them alot and the games that are cel-shaded like Prince of Persia, Eternal Sonata, does it well. id love if WKC or FF XIII were cel-shaded lol im also glad Borderlands went cel-shaded as well.
and damn right im waiting for WKC and FF XIII I have 2 copies of FF XIII pre-ordered...the japanese version, and NA verion...I also have WKC pre-ordered and might import it from japan soon as well. ^_^
