I have been a fan of the Halloween movies for a long time. I've seen the films since an early age, and Rob Zombie's Halloween remake is the first one that I have ever seen at the theater. After seeing the movie, I must say that it is the best Halloween since John Carpenter's 1978 original. Rob Zombie's directing was top-notch. Newcomer Daeg Faerch is terrifyingly brilliant as young Michael Myers and should earn an Oscar. Malcolm McDowell is electrifying as Dr. Samuel Loomis and delivers an Oscar-caliber performance. Scout-Taylor Compton fits Laurie Strode like second skin and is very believable in the iconic role. It's a treat to see Danielle Harris return to the series, this time as Annie Brackett. The casting was perfect: Every actor contributed greatly to the movie.
I loved getting insight on Michael's childhood and time at Smith's Grove Sanitarium. Faerch and McDowell have a genuine chemistry that can't be faked. The actors bring realism to the Myers Family, the school bullies, and Principal Chambers (Richard Lynch).
The kills were violent, graphic, intense, suspenseful, horrifying, bloody, but not even the least bit gory (unlike most horror films). The kills were by far the best I've seen in the franchise in a long time.
Tyler Bates' score is amazing and chilling, as was John Carpenter's score in the original.
Halloween (2007) is a terrifying masterpiece. It is the Citizen Kane of horror movies.
