So recently the NAACP reviewed the expulsions of two Belleville West students, who mercilessly beat a student on a bus back on September 14th. The response to the exupulsions of the two:
"I'm not trying to uphold any wrongdoing. You've got to be punished, but we've got to look at the circumstances. Who are we punishing? We're punishing the future generation. ... We don't need to take away their education"
We want to come up with a plan to present to the district, and hopefully, they can amend their action... we're not leaving any stone unturned."
The above quotes were said by Reverend Johnny Scott, head of the East Louis Chapter of the NAACP.
Honestly, this makes me hate what's going on even more. I could care less about their education, not after what they did. Yes, I know some and probably most of you will say that I am overreacting, but I don't care. They just randomly beat up one student who was trying to find a seat on a crowded school bus. They are facing expulsion from the school and criminal charges for what they did but now. If they are sent to a detention center, which they should, then schooling isprovided within. There is no reason to allow them to keep going to Belleville West or any school in the county. They will just repeat what they did.
What do you think? Am I going overboard?
Edit: I read another article that discussed the current state of the victim in the attack. He has a cut on his cheek, from when his glasses were smashed into his face, two black eyes, and an unspecified jaw injury. The lawyer who issued this statement said it is uncertain how his emotional and psychological state will be. The lawyer is quoted saying "He plans on going back to school as soon as he can. He wants to graduate and figure out what to do next in life." The victim has only one mark on his disciplinary record, and that would be arguing about a test that he had already taken, that he was told to take again.
