GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con
Saturday, Nov 18, 2006
Ive been cruising the forums and the rest of the web for the past couple hours. Its seriously sad to see all this Jeff bashing. The guy stood up to the hype and gave a certified gamespot review of the game. That means that the rest of gamespot, including Greg, approved the review. Get over it fanboys, the game got hyped to epic porportions.
I find it one thing to see kids on forums acting tough and hating on an editor, but from another journalist altogether its just downright pathetic. Matt, the head hauncho over at IGN is shedding the last bit of dignity he had as a game journalist. Calling for Jeff to be fired and a boycott of gamespot is not only unprofessional, but childish as well. Good job Matt, you just bashed on someone else in order to validate your own review
Seriously though, this is why I keep coming back to gamespot if I need a trustworthy opinion on which to base the decision to buy a game or not. GS has the journalistic integrety to stand up to hype and analyze a game for what it really is.
And really, thats all were talking about here. Video games. So quit the hating, and try and see the big picture for once.

Btw, the last time I checked, an 8.8 means a game is Great, and refers to great games that are excellent in almost every way. Are you going to let the fact that it scored .2 lower than a superb decide whether you'll want to play the game or not?

Thx for reading,
O_K

You know, when I was 12, before I found GS, I was IGN to the max... but IGN is a load of crock. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but going from a Gaming Website to a Maxim Magazine-wannabe is just plain benine. That, and they've bought out so many websites, its sickening (www.segasages.com/www.gamesages.com anybody?). But, as someone who's looking into Games Industry Journalism, I agree, for Matt to knock Jeff's Review, and to have Matt use it to validate and actually try to spoon away business from Gamespot is just as you said, down right childish. And its the Wii, and its a launch game... the game was on the Gamecube... for the love of god, like, shut it, the system wasn't even out until today, and porting a game to a control scheme like the Wii's is bound to create some problems.

Well, I guess we all know what to do now: boycott IGN!!! I always thought IGN was kinda bad (i.e.: 3.0 for God hand), but never this bad. They did it, they showed a completely unprofessional attitude. Jeff is one of the best editors around, and I'm pretty sure he knows better about games than all the Nintendo fanboys.

Indeed. The System Wars is a dangerous places. I find it funny how the same people that are acting extremely childish now were saying how mature the Wii was.

But from looking at other sites I guess it all comes down the remote. I think Jeff believed that the remote was hurting the gameplay experience and not helping. While others felt like it was helping the experience. That's why they differed by a .7 margin. Which is barely anything.

Everyone knows IGN just reviews based on what their slavish fanboys of a userbase wants to hear about just released games instead of telling them what they need to hear.

Seriously the boards have been crazy the last few weeks with all the hype and fanboyism. At first I thought it was funny but now it's almost impossible to go into any threads without them become rabid flame wars. I will be glad when all the hype subsides and peopel realize that gamign is gaming no matter what the system is.

Hey, Obesity King, nice find. I can't believe someone would say that about not just GS but also 1up in his rant.

I think I'm going to go and create a blog about what that nimrod said.

i completely agree, i must say that the main attraction of GS (and why i keep coming back) is their game reviews, their unbiased (well as much as possible) reviews, while not always following my taste have always been fair and i hold it fairly highly..... in fact one of the main reasons i got GoW was b/c of the great GS review (and the tag line "best use of a chainsaw") and what a great game it turned out to be..... in summation, keep diligent GS!!! and good call O_K

Well personally I'm not a fan of the Zelda series so I'm not really bothered by the score. XD
Anyway, speaking of reviews, I only read them to find out how the gameplay of a game is like, so yeah, they don't really affect my purchases.
