(500) Days of Summer is the latest Fox Searchlight Pictures production (Notable for films such as Juno, The Wrestler, Little Miss Sunshine, and last year's [Oscar] Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire) that will hit theaters on July 17th, 2009... How did I see it then? I managed to get into a heavily-monitered advanced screening of the film tonight, free of charge.

Anyways, about the movie... (500) Days of Summer is what I like to call, an anti-romantic comedy. I say that because while the film is about romance, it's not about the falling in love part, but the breaking up part. If you plan to take a date to this film, keep in mind this is not your "-and the lived happily ever after" film.
I honestly came into the film not expecting much -- and I can say I was extremely surprised with how good the film was. It was not a good film... It was amazing... and that's something big for me to say towards a(n) (anti-)romance film. Personally I'm not a fan of all that gushy stuff that seems to play a big part in romance films, but (500) Days of Summer seemed to keep it perfectly balanced between both the humor and the story it had to tell.
Speaking of the humor... The movie was indeed hilarious. Throughout the film, the entire theater audience kept on laughing. It's just a light-hearted film that deals with something people don't normally take in a light-hearted way (Breakup).

The film's layout worked well, too. The film plays through a timeline with a span of 500 days. The film does not go in order by date. It will skip around a lot. One moment you might be seeing an event from day 31 (The film will label the day numbers), then next moment the film will jump to the future to day 312 (I'm making these numbers up, I don't remember exact days), then next thing you know you're at day 38. When you hear that concept, it might make the film's layout seem cluttered and confusing, but I thought they really pulled off this structure well and overall made the film more interesting. So don't feel intimidated by the film's structure.

Overall, (500) Days of Summer is an awesome film that every film buff should check out. It's definitely worth seeing, and it's definitely worth driving and hour away for a showing (That means you, Sammyjenkis) -- and it's overall an awesome experience that has a nice meaning to it for those of you who have experienced similar relationship problems.

With all that said, I just can't think of anything I did not like about the film, sooooo... 10/10 (I'd gladly say it's my second favorite film of 2009 so far, next to Up).

Saw the trailer while seeing My Sister's Keeper (which was ridiculously depressing) and thought it looked just like my kind of movie. Glad to see you liked it, I'll be sure to see it when it comes out.

@biggest_loser - Me and my friend basically had to register online on the Fox Searchlight website, and then it sent us an email we had to print out and take to the screening. Other than that, there wasn't any paper work to deal with.
The theater was heavily monitored, though. I almost did not get in because I had my cell phone... It was not even a camera phone, yet they still did not accept it. They did not accept electronics of any kind into the theater. Yes, they were really cracking down on potential pirates, it seems... Even though that would never be my intention, they were serious business to anyone who had electronics. Luckily the metal detector guy (Yes, metal detector) was kind enough to keep hold of my phone until after the movie... Thank god. I was scared for a moment that nothing would let me in the movie.
Lesson of the day? Get there EARLY at Advance screenings, and leave electronics at home or in the car.
