Count me in the minority

With its rank of #35 on IMDb's top 250 movies of all-time list, it's natural to have extremely high expectations for Inglourious Basterds. The question is, does it live up to them? Well, in my mind, the answer is simply no, and I respectfully disagree with its rank. Inglourious Basterds is a somewhat original film based off World War II and the Holocaust that features "Basterds," led by Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt), killing some Nazis. Now, if you really like action-packed war films, then I wouldn't suggest seeing this, since it doesn't have much action in it. That's my first complaint with it, considering how I happen to love films with tons of action sequences in them. A lot of this movie consists of boring dialogue scenes that last a really long time, which isn't surprising as its total length clocks in at around two and a half hours. The Godfather doesn't feature a ton of action, but at least the dialogue scenes were entertaining and didn't make you fall asleep. Here it feels as if you could fall asleep, wake up twenty minutes later, and not miss one important thing. This might be because you have to read about 80% of the dialogue in this movie courtesy of subtitles because all the characters speak in German. I also felt that the pacing of the movie was a bit off. It stretched on too much, degrading the excitement aspect, and frankly, some of the scenes were pointless. Speaking of pointless, Diane Kruger's character has no point whatsoever in being in the movie. She was only in it for maybe 20 minutes, and during that time she didn't progress the story in any way, shape or form. The movie didn't really pick up until the very end, and even then it felt too predictable. However, I must say that Brad Pitt did an excellent job and added some much-needed humor into the mix, making every scene with him not in it worse. I guess you could say this movie was good in some ways, but mainly it was just a cluttered, boring mish-mash with few noteworthy or humorous scenes.
Long story short: You should probably only see this if you're a big history buff or if you like war films without much action, unlike Saving Private Ryan, a much better film by the way than this. It's still decent, but definitely DOES NOT deserve its current rank.
Grade: It really depends, but I'd give this movie a C+.
