Surfing various Game forums for PSP games and the amount of people openly admitting to running games by ISO [Since they don't own the actualy UMD] is truly depressing. These people declare love for these games yet don't even show the developers any support. They complain about some games not running properly due to their custom firmware settings and such. Buy the goddamn games. Just because you claim you can't afford to buy them doesn't give you any right to steal them. Piracy on the PSP seems to be worse than the likes of the DS [Which has a much easier method of doing so]. It's gamers like this that are the cause for the lack of support for the handheld. I think the DS has better overall software, but the PSP has plenty of good stuff on it. And it's suffering in software sales since it's fanbase doesn't want to buy anything for it. I don't think they realize that they will be the reason why the unit dies.

I don't own a PSP so I haven't seen that side of the platform, but I get annoyed at the number of 'want to share?' threads I see for PSN titles. And then the same people whine about how they've lost their account or had someone make purchases via their credit card or whatever.

Or a brief e-mail exchange I had with the Sin Episodes support guy, who said the bulk of the e-mails he received were from pirated versions, since the errors in question would have been solved via the automatic Steam patches. 1200 out of 1500 e-mails worth, I think, which is sad. Even if some games aren't the greatest out there, it would be nice if people showed them a tiny bit of respect. I can't think of much lower than pirating a game and actually wasting the company's support service trying to fix an error that wouldn't exist if you'd bought the game.

I own a PSP and I haven't touched it in months. I tend to focus more for the DS. Where I'm from PSP games are overpriced (probably because of lack of sales) and DS games are a lot cheaper. It's not really a secret, most people who get a PSP, do so to pirate games. The PSP is a pirate gaming system. It's really sad

Sony messed up with their initial firmware and made it too easy to crack, which inspired people to do whatever they could to it. Honestly, they have no one but themselves to blame, especially when memory sticks are big enough to run said ISO. So far the only one that seems to buck this trend is the 3000 series, but you have to get an inferior screen for that.

"they will be the reason why the unit dies."

Really? I can think of a great many more reasons why the PSP deserves to die.

I have to agree with Mailer, Sony was just too inexperienced in handhelds when they released the original PSP. It was so easy to crack the firmware, I don't think it took more than a day or two after launch. In all honesty though, if they could actually put out quality games it would make the system better, and probably make pirating a bit less. I think coming out with the UMD media format was also a mistake. They could have put a HDD in, and then released all games through ISO. Sure, it's not completely pirate proof, but at least it's better than what they have now.

Didn't even know much about it until I browsed the forums and realized how many people that were doing it. Never owned a PSP but I also think it's pretty sad when pirating prevents a system from reaching it's full potential...
All I can say to Sony is good luck with your next attempt.

It's a huge problem for the PSP. The sales numbers of God of War, etc. were rather depressing this year, and I think the new Wipeout sold like 18k or so? Sony even priced Patapon at $20 and people still pirated the damn thing, and I'm sure they'll do the same for Locoroco 2. Even Crisis Core didn't do that well given it's a FF7 title.

A good majority of the pirates will pirate no matter what you do. Or, in their words, "game sharing" for PSN titles. Now you know why Live has such a horribly strict DRM scheme - it's pretty much the only platform you can't freeload off of.

Just head over to a Torrent site and take a look at all the game cracks and ISOs available with the click of a mouse. It's absolutely sick. Even with the economy falling like it has been, there is no excuse to steal this kind of content, whether its on the PSP or whatever.
