They are finally giving the speed back to sonic and its about time. Project Needlemouse (just a code name) is going to be an all new HD 2D sonic game that has been build from the ground up which should be released some time in 2010 and it sounds awesome i cant wait to see what they've done with it. I know they tried to make Sonic fast in these 3D games and there ok but they still just dont have the feel of the classic 2D games.
If you havent seen the teaser trailer yet go watch it, its just a tiny slice of the epicness to come.

I am a die-hard Sonic fan and I am so excited! 
Sonic Rush was okay, but since it had a save function it just seemed a little short and it didn't feel like a classic Sonic game.
