Hi everyone! Still continuing to write my story but in the process I started to write another story. It's the oppositve of the dark powers and death image of my last story. This one is a twisted fact/fiction story of the craziest part of my life--high school. It's a comedy and I assure you the mannerisms of the main character are like me; her parents are not like mine LOL. In every chapter, I go through the highlights of school life, but twisted it fictionally in some parts. Here's my first chapter called "First Day". I hope to get some comments on it!
Chapter 1: First Day
"Wake up....get out of bed." Mom's voice seeped through my door, followed by a shallow knock. I, of course did not want to get up. I glanced at my clock with its glow-in-the- dark hands pointing to an ungodly time.
"6:02 a.m." I sighed. I slowly moved my legs that were feeling like blocks of concrete. My body was telling me 'hell no! You will not move!' while my mind started to rejuvenate-nah, my mind agreed with my body. I fell back to my peaceful dream of my recent summer vacation. Ah, the sea breeze, sleepovers and visits at my best friend's house and..."
"WAKE UP RIZU- AYA INAGI!! I'm not going to say this anymore!" A loud thump echoed through my dream world. I snapped back to mental reality. "You'll be late for school!"
I looked back up to my clock. It was now 6:26 a.m.
"YAAAH!!" I leaped out of bed too soon and got dizzy for a moment. I don't want to be late already; not on my first day of going to the prestigious Sohma Academy. I grabbed my uniform that I ironed from the night before and ran into the bathroom. My thoughts were filled with excitement yet anxiety. I also couldn't catch a couple more sleep due to having no water heater.
After almost slipping in the shower, stubbing my big toe and flung on my clothes as if it was my lifeline, I stumbled into the kitchen for what's left of breakfast. My mom and dad-originally named Midori and Goua Inagi were sitting around the dinner table, concocting their usual plan of gaining things that are rightfully not theirs-I'm not kidding. If you're puzzled, here's a brief explanation: boldly put, they are felons; best known as the "Distinguished Duo", one of the best con artists and/or blackmailers in Huran. They always changed their identities depending on the situations and I know all of those characters since I was five. They were caught only once, but got an almost non-existent punishment due to knowing about judge Loews's triple love affairs: one with his secretary Juni, another with Bailiff Douglas and one with a trans-gender well known around town as "Pookie". I guess that's his version of "equal opportunities for everyone."
Breakfast was already done. I picked up what was left of a pepperoni omelet, put it on wheat bread and went towards the fridge.
"So, what are you planning today?" I took out an orange juice carton.
"Well, Goua wants to get a new SUV, but I want to go by Shuri's Boutique."
"Ah! Midori, we already got a purse, two gold bracelets and we almost went with her Pomeranian Shiva!"
"The things we can get just for knowing her dark secret..." Midori squealed.
My parents never use pet names such as honey or even sugar lips...they always call each other by their first names and I have to do the same. It's like living with two much older roommates.
"But this time we could go as Niko and Sam."
"I'm tired of being Sam, can't I be Ken today?"
"You can't! Ken is just for scoping out potential targets."
Let me formally introduce you to my parent's multiple characters. Midori becomes these characters depending on the wig: Niko (orange bob cut wig. Personality: shy), Tala (long white wig. Personality: outspoken) and Wendy (blonde curly shoulder-length hair. Personality: perky). Goua only has two personalities: Ken (brown hair. Personality: mysterious) and the overused Sam (black hair. Personality: just like himself.) Ask me why he wants to be a personality that he is already himself? I have no idea.
"You guys can decide that after one of you drops me off to school." I ate the last of my sandwich.
Finally Midori and I walked out towards Old Fateful, our once-was-white-but-now-beige jeep. It's only five years old yet it has already been through hell and beyond, but still runs well, due to several cons and blackmails that I bother not to know about. As we entered into the vehicle, Midori sat in the driver's seat and said, "Rizu, you are growing up so fast...10 years old and already a first year student. I am happy."
"Um....thanks?" I didn't know what to say.
After that strange mom moment, we were on our way down there street.
Sohma Academy is about a 30 minute drive from home, so I had plenty of time to get anxious. I am so glad that my best friend Yulia is going to the same school as me. I hope we end up in the same homeroom.
In the town of Huran, Sohma Academy is one of the highest ranking schools in the country. It's also very hard to get into. You can either get in there by your family name or by being smart. I got into the school by the latter, Yulia got in both ways: She is very smart and also from the Tsuo family, one of the richest families in the neighborhood. What I like about Yulia is that even though she is rich, she is humble-she doesn't flaunt her financial stability around.
"We're here!" mom-err Midori spoke. We drove into the parking lot and there we saw many other cars with students coming out of their vehicles, moms and dads waving goodbye or walking them to the gate. I know for sure Midori wouldn't do that. She found an empty parking space, slowly drove in and set the car on park.
"What time do I pick you up?"
"I'm not sure, probably around 1:30?"
"I'll be there at 2:00."
"Ok," I opened the car door. "And one more thing,"
"Yes?"
"Let Goua be Ken for today." I smirked and shut the door.
Midori laughed in a "yeah right" sort of manner and started to back out of the parking space.
Sohma Academy was a huge school, bigger than my entire block. The four-story building stretched out like it was aiming to the heavens. I took a deep breath and slowly headed towards the big gateway entrance, trying not to look like I've had a hangover-whatever that was. Inside the courtyard area, so many waves of humans wearing white and navy uniforms scattered like bees, looking for any familiar faces. Squeals and shrieks indicated that they have found what they are looking for. I then noticed that most of the girls' skirts were thigh length. I looked down at my calf-length can-sweep-the-sidewalks-when-I-walk skirt and freaked out a little. Now I really look like the poor student.
"RIZU!!" a familiar voice shouted. I frantically looked around. There was Yuli, waving at me with a couple of her friends from elementary: Teru and Eddie. I didn't know much of them; I had a crappy childhood and no friends.
"Yuli!" I quickly rushed to where she was, skirt dragging along the way.
"We made it into the big time guys!" Yuli fixed her glasses. Even her skirt was a bit shorter than mine! Breaking out of that concentration, Yuli pointed by the entrance.
"Even the popular girls made it!"
When I saw Kisi and Suva walked in that entrance way, time seemed to slow down. There are times that you would know what song any popular clique would walk into. I was thinking around the themes of death metal music, emphasis on death. I thought "Ah hell no! I was harassed by them in elementary and now I'm going to be harassed during puberty also?"
Yuli was more familiar with those groups. Kudos for her. I don't know why she found them, I mean the "Its" interesting. I called them the "Its" because only them, not normal humans can make the male species' necks turn to not only a 180, but a 360 or more! As usual, they hailed Yuli and passed me like I was a piece of limburger cheese or something. I rolled my eyes and turned back around.
A few teachers finally came outside and informed the students that the ceremony is about to begin. They also requested something that sounded like Greek to me: All first years must gather in the middle of the courtyard. Great, just what I needed: sending us fresh meats to the middle of the desert to get picked on by academic vultures. We did what we were told and a teacher appeared in front of us on the stage. He looked about mid 40's and dressed like he was 25.
"Welcome new students to Sohma Academy, a place that strives for excellence, pride and education. My name is Nigel; I am the counselor of this facility..."
After that, I tuned out. All I heard was "blah blah blah ....school, more blahs and then best" and finally after 20 minutes of repeating album soundtracks through my head, I realized he already left the stage. The principal, Ms. Jenna Weis, who is also "It #1" (Kisi's) mother then spoke next.
More minutes of tuning out passed and then I heard "It's time to sing our school's anthem!" I looked back and saw many other students started to sing. The weather was getting hotter every minute, plus there were so many first year students all in everyone's personal space. I suddenly couldn't breathe. I was starting to get dizzy and cold sweats ran across my face. Hearing all the discords of "Sohma, Sohma, pride and true, Sohma Academy, an excellent you" were starting to drive me nuts. They were all like trained cats, horribly trained cats! Students around me started to sing along, moving from left to right. I felt squished...even abused. Suddenly, all went black.
I woke up in a school room, with a middle-aged full-figured woman fanning me.
"What...happened?" I asked. I was afraid to know.
"You caused a scene young lady." She replied. "You fainted in the crowd in the middle of the courtyard. A couple of teachers had to carry you before you unnoticeably get trampled. Here, something to drink." She handed me a can of chocolate Slim Fast. I watched the can in disarray before taking it. Anything's better than dry spit, but it would have been funny to see my skinny self slurping a weight loss drink.
"Have they mentioned about the homeroom schedule?" I asked after I took a sip.
"They are doing that now." She replied.
A few minutes later, students started to come into her room. As I tried to get up, Yuli came inside along with Teru and Eddie.
"Rizu! We are in the same homeroom together."
"Really?" I was happy. They carried my limp body to the right homeroom.
"Yeah. Even Kisi and Suva are here. Isn't that great?"
"It's...too good to be true." I spoke sarcastically.
