It is with extreme displeasure that I inform you all the the first Midwestrocker blog series, "Reasons Why I Wish I Experienced the 80's and Reasons I'm Glad I Missed the 70's," has been canceled.
The primary reason for this decision is a complete lack of creativity on the part of the series' creator. It turns out that it's difficult to write about two periods of time without actually having experienced them, and even more difficult to have an absolute, definitive opinion on something that you only have vague knowledge of. I don't know how politicians do it.
Another part of the cancelation is the profile view count. It hasn't increased by very much, and it's May Sweeps, people! We have to keep those eyeballs glued! ![]()
We will not be showing the remaining episodes.
Now, on to other things. Tomorrow I'm going to Florida for my cousin's sweet-sixteen. It should be a nice trip, but it'll be a rough drive. See, my part of the country is under siege. Georgia hasn't seen this much fire since Sherman. Foggy smoke has been visible on and off throughout the state for two weeks, and the scent of burning leaves and pine cones fills the air. More troublesome, contact lens wearers (including myself) have had to get special prescriptions to deal with the irritation and red eye. But so far I haven't been directly confronted by these fires, until now. Tomorrow I will be driving right through the mess. The portion of 1-75 that's been blocked off for the past couple of days is exactly the portion that I use to get myself to Mickeyland. So I'm not sure how this is going to work; am I going to be rerouted somehow through back roads and swamps, or should I go out to Interstate 95 and go down that way? But wait, if I went to I-95 I'd have to go through the Okefenokee swamp, which is also going up in smoke. Oh, I guess I can go to 1-95 via I-10, which would actually be a nice drive. Wait, that's on fire too? Hmmm. I guess this is an appropriate depiction of the current situation. Also, next month I'll be heading up to Duluth, Minnesota to see family and, apparently, it's on fire too. Great. I'm beginning to feel singled out. Just wish me luck, I guess.
Speaking of cancelations, tomorrow they air the last episode of the Gilmore Girls. We just recently started watching that show, thus proving that my affection is the kiss of death for a TV show. Apparently, Battlestar Galactica's getting canned too. You better watch your back, Heroes, because in the last month I've gotten two shows canceled and I've ensured that Lost has an end date! Alias only survived 8 months of my fandom before it was dumped. And you're about to be my favorite show, so that = doom. But back to the Gabmore Girls: Will Luke and Lorelai end up together? Will Rory ride off into the sunset with a special someone? Surprisingly, I don't really care. It was a funny show, and it's run its course. Goodbye, fast-talking pop-culture referencers. You shall be missed a little bit.
That's all for today. I hope you guys all have a great week and don't bombard my house with eggs because of the cancelation. That is, if you could get to my house without going through an inferno.

No hair, nope. That's one of the reasons I had to stop it; there were just so many things that I didn't really have an opinion on or didn't have great knowledge of. I don't think I'm going to do blog series anymore...
Bwahahaha, cancel it we shall!
I will definitely be forced to watch this dull spawn of a somewhat enjoyable show, and our eyes combined will take it down in a matter of weeks. I'm looking through your favorites list, and there seem to be a few shows that we've canceled. American Dreams, Commander-in-Chief, Reunion, and possibly Veronica Mars.
However, there are several shows we both watch that are doing pretty well. Like American Idol, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, and The Daily Show. Maybe we have the power to either cancel a show, or make it a permanent success? Which means the Grey's Anatomy Spinoff Plan could backfire... ![]()
By the way, I claim credit for Drive. It doesn't seem that it was actually filmed on location (there are no mountains in Florida... the tallest point in Florida is Britton Hill, at 345 feet) a show can't come that close to me and not be canceled. There's a show coming on ABC next season called "Atlanta," and I just don't think the 170 miles between that town and I will be enough to protect it.
Then...come back and forget what you don't know...talk about what you do know...just keep it coming....just cause we aren't here doesn't mean we aren't looking....or something like that.
There's still plenty of time for Sci Fi to make a decision. Season 4 won't wrap up until the early fall of 2008. Even if they need to have a decision before the 2nd half of Season 4 is written and filmed (so that there aren't any potential series-ending cliffhangers), that still gives everyone at least 6 months to think about it. I think the writers can push the show to 5 seasons without a drop in quality. After that, I think they should consider wrapping it up. It's not a story that can get extended forever, but they can get 2 more seasons out of the franchise.
Heroes is definitely coming back for a 2nd season. After that, it all depends on the ratings and the writing next year. It looks like they are going to work in single-season serial stories. Next year will focus on entirely different characters for the most part. If the writing can remain consistent, the producers could keep the show running for a long time without seeing it grow stale.
Don't feel bad. I killed Geeks and Freaks and American Dreams.

Lotsa fires, huh? It's like someone looked at your trip itinerary and went, 'hmmm, I can stop that!'
Although you may be the kiss of death for some shows, you can't take credit for Drive, even though they set some scenes in Tiffy-ville. I wonder if they really filmed them there? Oh, well, since you didn't watch it, you can't take that credit. But I can, bwahahahaha! And I take credit for the cancellation of Smith too. And, evidently, Studio 60 is gone too. That was supposed to be announced today.
Hey, I vote that you and I band together and both avidly watch the new Addison-centred Grey's spin-off and claim that we love it. That should kill it pretty quickly. I have to say, that 2-hour eppy of Grey's was the most boring 2-hours I've spent in a while.
Just think what we could do, if we put our superpowers of cancellation together! We could get soaps that have been running for longer than we've been alive cancelled. Canned, with no notice! We could ruin careers! Wreck havoc in the ratings world!
Personally, I also take credit for the success of My Name Is Earl and Ugly Betty. I've never watched them, even though I've heard good things, and this, THIS is the reason they're still on the air. If I tune in.... buh-bye!
