2009 Formula One Season

Excellent start to the new Formula One GP season from Australia, over the weekend. I had to get up to watch it live, of course, but 2 days getting up at 5am and late nights out at dinner and the theatre, have taken their toll.

It was a great race however, even though reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton could only scrape to fourth, the race winner was the only other Brit driver, Jenson Button, in a brand new team, Virgin Brawn GP, formed from the old Honda team. My wife is very pleased as she has a soft spot for him. Of course, Richard Branson, their major sponsor, had a permanent smile all weekend!

We've been watching United States of Tara and Being Erica as well as our usual 24, Cold Case, NCIS. USOT is very well done, Toni Collette is great!

Hi Maverick, My brother is a HUGE Formula 1 fan since he was about 5 years old and met Stirling Moss and actually got a picture of him with my brother sitting in the Formula 1 car. Talk about lasting impressions, he has been going to races pretty much all his life. What do you think of Being Erica? For us it's winding up here in Canada. I liked it, thought it's very well done and different.

Hi April, We've been fans for many years and been to Monaco a few times, Silverstone and Spa in Belgium. Sir Stirling is a true gentleman and "the greatest driver never to have won the F1 championship", he actually argued in support of his rival Mike Hawthorn when Hawthorn was threatened with a penalty in Portugal in 1958; Moss lost the title by one point, to Hawthorn. We'd never see that sort of sporting attitude today! I've been downloading Being Erica weekly so we're pretty much up to date on the latest episode. Do you know if it's being renewed? It's a great premise and Erin Karpluk looks so believable as a sixteen year old and as a thirty something.
