Hello gamers of GS, I'm back again with this time a Gaming Ramble, for things outside of gaming are going to be on my blogger page from now on unless I decide otherwise but for now, let's get on with it since there's a lot to talk about.

A New Zone of the Enders planned

Zone of the Enders

I was hoping that one day Hideo Kojima would return to do another Zone of the Enders and I'm glad that he is. While I've yet to finish the first one and I got the 2nd one for $79 AUD this month (can't wait to get around to it, but tell me if I need to play the first one before I get into the 2nd one, because I'm not sure if they're linked together). I was getting worried about Kojima for a short while, not that I'm a fan of his work but devoting your future projects to milking out a well known franchise (such as MGS) is not worth it in my opinion. It's best to leave it alone when needed to and then work on something else which I'm glad that he is as well as the new Castlevania game.

Nvidia to develop graphics card for Next Nintendo Handheld

Nintendo DS

While the Wii may not have been THAT credible as it was hoped to be but the DS is definetly something more awesome with a great range of games and I've gotten word that Nvidia, one of the biggest graphic card developers is working on a graphics card for the Nintendo's next Handheld gaming system. Now, this is cool and everything because while I'm not a very technical person but I do know that Nvidia has done some quality work, although this is the same graphics card that is used for the Microsoft Zune HD, so I suppose we're getting more than just what the DS has offered and could possibly be higher than the PSP although Sony could come up with their own scheme for their next Handheld system (and hopefully isn't as crappy as the PSP Go).

A Shoutout to Keji Inafune

Keji Inafune

I know this may be a little late but I want to get this off my chest. This is just something I want to say about Keji Inafune (the creator of Mega Man) on what he said at the Tokyo Game Show this year.

WHAT THE F***?! Have you ever heard the term "Never say die"? I may sound weeabo-ish but don't ever say "Japan is Over" because when it comes to the gaming industry, without Japan's involvement during the times of the Arcades, NES, etc. We wouldn't have been gaming till today. Now granted that most of the games that come out of Japan in this day and age may be a little obscure to the western audience but to me, that's the beauty of it and most people don't seem to give it a chance and rather play an FPS with Online multiplayer over that which to me is rather sad. I can understand that the Japanese gaming industry seems to be crushed by Western gaming insustry but that's no reason to give up, I still would like to see more titles come from Capcom, Konami, Sega, Atlus, Square Enix, etc. but that's just me.

Namco Bandai annouces Inversion

[insert screenshot here]

When looking on Gametrailers recently, I've came across news about Namco Bandai's new IP Inversion which seems to have a bit of promise, a 3rd-person co-op shooter that has a bit of "gravity control" in the game as you can turn heavy objects into sheilds or bullets. It's being developed by the same team who did Timeshift, which was one FPS that I thought it was ok while it did end up some rather low scores but I thought it was kinda entertaining. There's not really much I can say about the game as there's not much info but from what I'm reading it has promise as long as Namco Bandai can continue to put out IPs like this (and Splatterhouse) rather than rehashing the same Naruto and Dragon Ball game almost every year.

Random Pick-Ups (as well as a "reopening" series of blogs)

Random Pick-Ups!

My copy of Demon's Souls finally came in the mail today (and I'll be doing an impressions blog for it ) as well as I picked up Borderlands on the 360 (with a free T-shirt from JB) and also Mario & Luigi: Bower's inside Story. I've been playing a lot of Borderlands today and I'm loving it so far, so immense and big, it feels like Fallout 3 but it isn't. I haven't been compelled by a game besides Brutal Legend for a long time now. I have yet to play Mario & Luigi yet but I can't wait as it's the first one in the series that I bought. I can't say anything about Demon's Souls right now, so you might need to wait.

[Pictures for Rental games not working]

I've also managed to rent Dead Space: Extraction for the Wii and Mario & Sonic @ the Winter Olympic Games on the DS today, but my thoughts on them are gonna wait as I'm brining back (or possibly starting a new series of blogs) call "Rental Impressions" where I talk about a game that I rented at a video store and I'll explain my thoughts about them to see if it's worth buying or not, I just need to play these games more before I take them back.

So, that it's for this blog and until next time, I'll see you from the dark side

Hell yeah! new Z.O.E!
I totally agree with you with your response to Inafunes comments, It is mind boggling to hear a comment like that from such a high profile person. There is just too much money to lose in the japanese gaming industry, It wont go away and there is just a large support and a cult following in the Western market which is probably enough to keep it on its foot. My only worry is for the Japanese games industry to completely isolate itself... meaning no translation/localization into western market, it has always been happening to a small extent but I just don't want a large divide to develop... If it does happen... I am going to learn Japanese. This may sound contradicting with my last point but my other worry is for the 'Westernization' in the development of japanese games what I mean is for Capcom to do something like another post-apocalyptic FPS based around co-op & MP, it would be a sad day in gaming if that happens.

@zxv33 - Sorry, but no

@illmatic87 - I agree, Game developers in Japan must keep to their roots than rather than try and imitate what Western developers do because it's not natural in a gaming sense.

I don't know why, but I first read Brutal Legend as 'Blue Lagoon'

I've not playing the older ZoE games outside of a demo but think I may be interested if a new one comes along. I read that about the DS successor getting new tech... but honestly, that shouldn't be a surprise. Companies plan a few years ahead, ideas to start in on their new consoles/handhelds, Nintendo prob isn't doing anything different than the usually do when thinking of new hardware. I think the idea of the article was for emphasizing the tech of an integrated CPU and GPU system that would cut down on parts as well as offer (what Nvidia is claiming) a quick way for programmers to design games for the system. Dealing with one processing unit over 2 is a simplified way of going about it, no? I can't see why people are excited with comments like "It'll blow (visually) the PSP out of the water" because there's been nothing down with it yet... thus no one knows what it's capable of and it's just like you said, Sony is deff thinking about the PSP2 the same as Nintendo is looking at the Successor to the DS. Could Nintendo come out with something much more visually impressive than Sony's successor? Yeah, they sure could.... but I highly doubt they will. It's not a part of "cockiness" on my part, rather, it's Nintendo's history.

They go for a technology that is cheap to manufacture and thus easy on price for the consumer as well as not complicated so that any and all games can come to their handheld. Look to the DS. Power wise it's quite a bit lower than teh PSP, but it's that price factor and the fact that there's so many different types of games (for all ages) that propels them to the top. I can't see Nintendo slapping down a $250 power beast to try and "compete" with the PSP... they're at the Top with their current strategy, why change?

I can agree and disagree with Inafune. In one perspective, yes Japan seems to be lagging behind (as a whole) with the tech and with new ideas... rather than just making new "prettier" versions of the old design. That said however, I agree with out that there are still some VERY talented studios out there in Japan like the ones you mentioned, that make superb games. I think the industry as a whole is shifting around and restructuring ... and it's not limited to Japan. Over the past few years there've been a huge group of studios either acquired or shut down all thanks to growing demands on games to be that next BIG thing.

I've been thinking about Demons Souls, it sounds very tempting. Borderlands seems mega kewl too

@hush404 - Well, fair enough about Nintendo's new handheld, they may not have high quality handheld systems, but the library of games is the important aspect.

I don't have much to say what you've said about Inafune but I get what you mean though for the most part.

Do give Demon's Souls a try (but I warn ya, it's really hard!) as well as Borderlands, it is kewl
