Wow... is this guy not one of the best closers to ever grace the mound? I was watching a game not too long ago, don't remember who Boston was playing (Toronto? Detroit? Hmmm....), but all I know was that whoever the other team was, they were all sitting on their bench by the second out of the 9th. They had resigned themselves to the fact they were going to lose. It seems, if Boston's ahead in the 9th, and they bring out Papelbon, you might as well pack up your stuff because the game's over. And his antics breathe some life into any game he's involved in.I've been told some people are meant to suffer, and that's why the Redsox won't win a World Series. Well, they've now won 2 in just a couple of years.I guess the universe has a way of course correcting itself. I've always thought Robin Williams was something of a genius when it came to comedy. However, I never 'got it'. So I always watched him with a blank stare, always trying, but never figuring it all out. I know he did some good drama work in the past, Good Will Hunting, The Fisher King, Patch Adams, and the like, but I never did get to see them. Finally, he does a dark drama, One Hour Photo. That was an amazing and very creepy performance. It completely altered my view of him. And not too long after, comes Insomnia. Suddenly I find myself really liking the guy. Who knew someone that had such a great, offbeat, unique, sometimes annoying, sense of humor, could play that type of roll that well? And here we are, 2 weeks ago. (Flashback, sorry, my Lost mentality does that sometimes) I read he's making a guest appearance on SVU. I just about jump out of my skin cause I know this is gonna be good! And it was. I now find myself wanting him to do more dark dramas, be it TV or film, and will definitely see every single one of those that he does.
LOST
As much as I lost track of Smokey I was glad he returned in the last epi. And what a return! Holy crap, I was completely rooting for Smokey and Ben when he swooped in and killed off the freighter army. Or at least some of them. That damn Keamy is still alive though
. But this leads
me to wonder.... does Ben have control over it? I'm thinking not. Though Ben certainly had some doing in Smokey's rampage in the village, I really don't think he has control over it. At least not totally. He said they wanted to be as far away as possible from the freighter army as they could be. So I think had any of them, including Ben, run straight into the chaos, Smokey would have shredded them as well. Even Cuse has mentioned that there's consequences for calling up Smokey.
My question now is, where do I find a pet like that? I can see myself walking into my local PetSmart.... "Hi, can I help you sir?" "Yeah, I'm looking to get a pet, but I'm not sure what I want." "OK, let's go down the isles..." "A dog?" "No." "Cats?" "No." "Birds?" "No." "Spiders?" "GOD NO! Ewww... Who the @$# in their right mind would want of those ugly @$!%# things?!?" "Fish?" "No." "OK, what are you looking for in a pet exactly?" "I want one that will exact revenge on evil people. I want one that will instill fear in the hearts of men, and make them reconsider everything they've done in their lives." "...." "Do you have any smoke monsters?" "Security!!!"
After The Constant, I became quite worried about the direction the show was taking. Yeah, I knew this island was 'special', but I hoped against all hope it would still be logical, in some sense of the word. But The Constant dashed most of that hope to pieces, like Smokey trying to chop firewood with Mr. Eko's body. But, The Other Woman renewed my faith. This epi could have easily fit right inside season 1, maybe even 2. A great flashback that by itself doesn't actually advance the plot, but still tells a very interesting and intriguing character story.
Hmmm, funny.... as much as I want to know what the heck is going on on Craphole Island, I seem to prefer the epis like this one.... A little slower, one good big reveal, lots of other questions and insinuations raised, and good character story and development... over the action/adventure ones season 4 seems to revel in.
