you could try to buy a new one since you void the waranty by opening it if it got the red rings they would of replaced it for free.

it never got the red ring until AFTER i opened it. Anyway, i just have to keep on saving money i suppose..its gonna be a long ass time.

damn at least the core is cheaper now keep your hard drive and buy a core when you have a chance.

My condolences.... I recommend:
A) Buy a PS2 and playing it until PS3, or 360 falls in price enough to buy one
B) Playing your 'old games'. 100% them, play them on the hardest difficulties possible, add your own objectives to make them harder like play Metal Gear Solid without every being spotted or play San Andreas and unlock everything without a game guide or try a 7 vs 1 in Command and Conquer see how long you can last
C) Play casual PC games like Travian, Desktop Tower Defense or Insane Aquarium until Consoles fall down in price/you get enough money
D) Play multiplayer games against other people online and aim to be "in the top 1000" gamers of that specific game
E) Buy an Xbox 360 Core, so what if you can't play old Xbox games (they're old any way)
