I had to replace my PC last year because my hard drive broke and I couldn't recover my pictures or my music. I was so sad; I really had a lot of songs on that computer. I have been balancing rebuilding my music library while finding new music. September turned out to be a busy month for downloading.

New music I found included:
"Broken Strings" by Carefree
"Outta Here" by Esmee Denters
"Bulletproof" by La Roux
"Falling Down" by Space Cowboy
"I Surrender" by Discotronic
"I Know You Want Me" by Pitbull

Downloads to rebuild my music library included:
"(Sitting on) The Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding
"Outskirts of Town" by Josh White
"The Last Song" by Poison
"Greensleeves" by Rosalind McAllister
"Tobacco Road" by Rare Earth
"Margaritaville" by Alan Jackson
"Cinderella" by The Cheetah Girls
"What Do You Say to That" by George Strait
"All of Me" and "Night and Day" by Frank Sinatra
"Pain" and "Get Out Alive" by Three Days Grace
"Big Spender" and "Fever" by Peggy Lee
"Hey Trolly Lolly Lo" and "A Robyn" by I Faagiolini
"Last Drop" and "Calling Out My Name" by Kevin Lyttle
Bach's Fugue in G minor (BWV 1000) by Elizabeth Farr
Mozart's "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" conducted by Neville Mariner

And then several of versions of Bach's Fugue in G minor (BWV 578.). Helmut Walcha, of course, is the premier interpreter of Bach but E. Power Biggs' version with a c 1assic pipe organ is superb and Jacques Loussier's version is an interesting jazz piano interpretation.

It will take awhile before my music library approaches what it was before but at least it is coming along.

Frank Sinatra? That's so cool! It's too bad about your library though. I hope you can get it back to what it was very soon!

Posted Oct 3, 2009 4:38 pm PT
I was listening to Mastodon today
Posted Oct 3, 2009 5:09 pm PT
Did they try a data recovery on the HDD? Or at least popping the HDD in another computer for the data recovery?
Nice collection coming along. Did you have any Lionell Hampton? Nina Simone?

Thanks to you and Grooveshark I'm now mumbling "I know you want me, you know I want 'cha".
Posted Oct 3, 2009 6:23 pm PT
Interesting selection of artists.
Posted Oct 3, 2009 6:24 pm PT
I got the MGS4 soundtrack
Posted Oct 3, 2009 6:37 pm PT
"Reach For The Sun" by Polyphonic Spree!
Posted Oct 3, 2009 6:54 pm PT
I dont really listen to the same music as you. You really should buy an external hardrive to backup your music files. They are not too expensive. I got like a 130 gigabyte one for about 80 dollars last year. I have like 7000 songs right now so I would be devastated if I lost the files.

Glad to hear you're slowly rebuilding!

I try and back up everything important but I often never get around to it.

@twilightlullaby
I love the sounds of the fifties. It was a huge library, more than a thousand songs that I had accumulated over years.

@FeltLyner
Thanks, I am working on it.

@polsci1503
There isn't much metal that I enjoy but Crack the Skye wasn't a bad album.

@ImaginaryFriend
They tried everything. The only option was to send the thing to a clean lab and I couldn't afford that.

I love Lionel Hampton, especially his early stuff. Nina Simone will have to be on this month's list of downloads.

@korino55
Catchy isn't it?

@GeekyDad
My musical tastes are eclectic.

@johnsteed7
I had some video game soundtracks, oh, and some sound effects too. I wonder if I can find those again?

@mprezzy
I haven't heard of Polyphonic Spree. I will check them out.

@lazyhoboguy
Yeah, I learned the hard way to back up. I always do it at work but I never did for my home computer - 'till now.

@Foolz3h
I am backing up about once a month now.

I think we should compare music collections. Ever hear of Steel Panther? Apocolyptica? DJ Z-Trip? DJ Greg J? Claude Williams? Larry Clinton? Just curious
Posted Oct 3, 2009 9:19 pm PT
@ImaginaryFriend
I lost Larry Clinton's Shades of Hades album and a couple other of his works, mainly from the '30's. I love Claude Williams, there is something about jazz violin. Thanks for reminding me of him; I lost him as well and I will put him on this month's list. A couple of songs by Apocolyptica, "Unforgiven" and "I Don't Care" are in my library. I have my eye on Steel Panther. I heard a couple of songs from their new album that I might get when it is released. I have to admit that I am not crazy about either Greg J or Z-Trip but "Breakfast Club" and "Listen to the DJ" aren't too bad.

I know about four of these artists but I've never actually listened to any of them.

'Illinois' by Sufjan Stevens for me. Freaking fantastic record. Thanks Grooveshark!

@polsci1503 They were in town today! I wish I could've gone.
Posted Oct 3, 2009 11:07 pm PT
Try the Spree at your own risk! They're love 'em or hate 'em. I love that song because it's from "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind," which I've decided is my favorite movie.

@mprezzy: Yes! Me too! :highfive:
Posted Oct 4, 2009 2:30 pm PT
That sucks about losing your pictures, I try to back mine up as often as I can (which is usually maybe once a year ) Also I was digging your music selections until my eyes fell on the Cheetah Girls
Posted Oct 4, 2009 2:50 pm PT
@AlmightyMax
Sufijan Stevens would be hard for me to get into. I checked out that record and saw the longest title of a song I have ever seen!

@mprezzy
There is some music that I like just for the associated memories. I think "Reach for the Sun" would be one of them.

@horseyjesse
That song is one of my guilty pleasures. I am drawn to a couple of the lyrics. "Don't wanna depend on no one else. I’d rather rescue myself." and "Don't need nobody taking care of me" could be the theme to my life.

Steel Panther is entertaining, I pre ordered it from amazon. I caught a show of theirs for free in Vegas and feel like I need to support them. They are hilarious. Jazz violin isn't something I ever thought I'd like, until I heard Claude. Sorry about the loss of Larry, I haven't heard his Shades of Hades album, I'll probably dig around for that one. If your not a fan of mash ups I can see why you would not like Greg J or Z-Trip, except like you said the couple original collaborations z-trip has out like breakfast club. However Rockafied by Greg J continues to impress me, way too much classic rock in there and sewed together quite well. Did you ever have the album Atomic Basie or Ella At Duke's Place?
Posted Oct 4, 2009 8:19 pm PT
@ImaginaryFriend
I will give "Rockafied" a listen.

I never had the albums Atomic Basie or Ella at Duke's. Right now, the only Count Basie I have is "One O'Clock Jump" and "Topsy". For Ella, I have the album The Best of the Songbooks, and the songs "That Old Black Magic" and "Summertime".

Are you familiar with Lurrie Bell? He is one of my favorite blues guitarists. His album Kiss of Sweet Blues is great. I lost the music I had of him and his father, Carey Bell (a blues harmonica player) but I will download it again sometime.
Posted Oct 4, 2009 9:42 pm PT
that is some good music
Posted Oct 5, 2009 12:00 am PT
@iowastate
Thanks, I enjoy a wide range of music. I feel sorry for people when they say the only listen to (fill in the blank). I can usually find a song I like in most genres.
Posted Oct 5, 2009 7:03 am PT
Rockified is free and legal off his Greg J's myspace page. I haven't heard of either of the Bell's, I'll look into them today when I check out that Clinton album. Thanks for the heads up
Atomic Basie is probably one of the best Basie albums I've heard (I got about 4 including the two you have). Ella At Dukes is classic, I even have it on Vinyl besides CD. It's just that good. Imagine My Frustration and that version of Cottontail are amazing.
Posted Oct 5, 2009 7:25 am PT
while I do have preferred genres I like almost everything and my faves include songs and artists in several languages. Including Farsi, Spanish, Korean, German, and French.
Posted Oct 5, 2009 10:27 am PT
That's a lot of music you discovered here in September
Posted Oct 5, 2009 1:33 pm PT
@iowastate
I lost all my international music when I lost my hard drive. That has been the hardest to locate again.

@Subterranean500
Only the first six are newly discovered. The rest are songs I downloaded again because my hard drive broke. Most of the new songs are dance music.
Posted Oct 5, 2009 6:31 pm PT
Its good that you are slowly rebuilding your library, I hope that you can restore it to where it once was. Those are some pretty nice songs.
Posted Oct 5, 2009 8:25 pm PT
@ImaginaryFriend
I am think you will also like John Lee Hooker. He is a fantastic blues guitarist! But I am sure that you already have him.

@david_lck
Iit will take quite awhile to get back to where it was, But I enjoy music and like to discover artists that I have never heard before.
Posted Oct 5, 2009 11:33 pm PT
I lost a lot when my hard drive crashed, but everything I downloaded from iTunes I was able to get back from them. It offered back to me at a huge discount to I have all my Farsi music again and most of Spanish from Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and Uruguay. Others I had some CDs but had given a few away after saving them to my computer so will not see them again
Posted Oct 6, 2009 1:40 am PT
Yes I do enjoy Mr. Hooker. Very talented man. And thanks for the heads up on the Bell's, I like their sound, but the harmonica more so.. that guy can whale!
Posted Oct 6, 2009 10:05 am PT
@iowastate
Oh, you were lucky! I just can't remember the names of most of the international artists that I found. But at least it forces me to find new ones.

@ImaginaryFriend
Yep, Carey Bell is pretty amazing. Did you download any of his stuff. My two favorites are "St. Louis Blues" and "So Easy to Love You".
Posted Oct 6, 2009 10:16 pm PT
non-English speaking friends, a Korean wife, a Mexican step father, and time in the orient helped to widen my music appreciation.
Posted Oct 7, 2009 2:21 am PT
Wow, it seems like you enjoy all types of music. I see new music as well as old standards, pop to classic. That is so refreshing. Most people I know only like one or two genres.
Posted Oct 11, 2009 2:33 pm PT
@MsJoannaDark
Thanks, I always thought that you miss out on so much good music if you only limit yourself like that. And what I listen to depends on my mood.
