GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

I don't have a lot of extra cash floating around, what with medical bills to pay so I never thought I would have to resort to this. But I think I might have to buy a new console just to play a video game!

Indigo Prophecy was one of my favorite games. And now the same developer is coming out with Heavy Rain, a PS3 exclusive. Everything I see and read about the game makes me want it more. The graphics look amazing, the story seems intriguing and the game play unique.

Thank goodness the price of the PS3 came down – I might have to get one just to play this game! I have never owned all the consoles of a generation before. It feels so decadent!

I wrote a very similar blog to this a few months ago when I got my PS3

If you're just thinking of getting one just for Heavy Rain, I'd wait until the reviews come out. I looks great, but you never know. It could be a dissapointment.

I'd do it in your place... it's a really REALLY fun console. I love my 360 too, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the PS3. I also believe that the PS3 is going to have a much longer lifespan, and with the blu-ray thrown in... the ability to add HDD space with any 3.5" drive... it's great.

@johnsteed7
I remember that blog. Didn't you complain about HDMI cables not being included? I don't get how a device can come without the appropriate cables.

Anyway, I am always slow to dish out the money, so if I am talking about it now that means I won't spend my money for at least a couple of months, plenty of time for the reviews to come out.

@Frame_Dragger
I have been tempted by blu-ray but as Mae West said, "I generally avoid temptation unless I can resist it."

The PS3 comes with composite cables only. Fine if you have a standard def TV, annoying if you have a high def TV.
Posted Sep 26, 2009 3:39 pm PT
@Johnsteed7: Yeah, it's pretty inexcusable, but HDMI cables are pretty cheap, if you're at the point of buying a console.

@MJoanne: Yeah, and I think she said something about pickles... anyway... get the PS3!

@johnsteed7
I found it completely annoying when I got HD cable for my HD TV that I had to go out and buy HDMI cables. It was like buying an electrical cord for my toaster.

@Frame_Dragger
The only person more quotable than Mae West is Bruce Campbell or Sheldon from Big Band Theory. I am still considering the PS3.

Great time to act, as this generations supposed to be here for a while. I recommend doing a bit o' research to make sure you're getting what you want. Other then that, good for you!

I will definitely be getting Heavy Rain for my wife when it releases, as adventure games are, bar none, her favorite genre. As little interest as I have in it myself, I'm still really glad there are folks out there still making such games.

Step up to flavor country. Step up to PS3.
Posted Sep 26, 2009 7:23 pm PT
I would love to try out Indigo Prophecy sometime, it looks great. Thanks to LittleBigPlanet, Valkyria and Uncharted 2 I'm just about ready to go out and buy a Slim. I think I just need one more really big exclusive to sell me over (Atlus, ball's in your court).
Posted Sep 26, 2009 7:27 pm PT
I've not yet played Indigo Prophecy, but I've been meaning to for a while. It's just so freaking expensive -- I have a hard time justifying spending fifty bucks on a used games that's several years old.
Posted Sep 26, 2009 8:12 pm PT
@korino55
I hope this generation will be here for awhile. All these consoles are expensive!

@GeekyDad
After RPGs, adventure games are my favorite genre.

@eggmcmuff
It is a big step.

@AlmightyMax
It is the exclusives that make us buy another console. LittleBigPlanet looks awfully temtping.
Posted Sep 26, 2009 10:44 pm PT
that's all well and good unless Heavy Rain is a letdown
Posted Sep 27, 2009 2:18 am PT
@bluej33
If a used game gets that expensive that means it is good.

@pigfish2
If Heavy Rain is a let down then I have a blu-ray player that I can game with.

Definitely up there on my list of reasons to snag a PS3. Sadly, I don't think I'll be able to get one for quite some time.

@MJoanne: Valkyria Chronicles... Fat Princess... Uncharted... and more... come to next generation MJoanne... give in to your hate... wait, no... err.... I mean, give in to your gamer....

Ooh, exciting! If you do end up get a PS3, have fun.
Posted Sep 27, 2009 5:07 am PT
Heavy Rain looks pretty awesome and I'm gonna buy it, though I do have some worries about the game.
Posted Sep 27, 2009 12:13 pm PT
@EarthThatWas
I am hoping to swing it, the price drop helps.

@Frame_Dragger
It is not a question of hate but money - the budget is tight.

@twilightlullaby
Thanks, gaming is always fun or what's the point!

@Subterranean500
The game looks great, I just hope it is half as good as Indigo Prophecy.

I know how you feel; there are some upcoming games (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, GoW3) that I'm sort of hoping get bad reviews, because I *really* can't afford to buy a new system this year.
Posted Sep 28, 2009 9:55 am PT
@notjessica
Yeah, I don't like exclusives. Being made to buy all the consoles in order to play the games you want is tough.
Posted Sep 28, 2009 1:25 pm PT
If there's one thing that pisses me off about fanboys/girls... it's the lack of regard for people who don't have every console. People act as though an exclusive is a plus for the CONSUMER... when it's a plus for the console manufacturer, and no one else.

Just remember, if you enjoy your Atari (or notjessica, you played Castlevania:OoE) then you already don't mind older graphics... you like the game. A year from now, or two, or even three, Heavy Rain, GoW3 and the like will still be a blast to play (hopefully).
Posted Sep 28, 2009 4:12 pm PT
@frame_dragger: Oh, heck, forget OoE, I can still have a blast playing the original NES Castlevania. I've got enough games on the shelf that I could play and have fun with that I'm set for life even if I never buy another game, let alone console.
But when you see something cool, it's hard not to want it.

@Frame_Dragger
It always irritated me when gamers brag about the number of exclusives their console of choice has. I would think that a developer would want their game on as many consoles as possible in order to sell more games. It makes me wonder how much a console manufacturer must pay to keep a game exclusive.

@notjessica
I try to buy games that I enjoy enough to play again and again. That is also why I look for games with a strong replay component.
Posted Sep 28, 2009 7:25 pm PT
I also want Heavy Rain, but I think I can hold off on a PS3 for now...anything related to Kingdom Hearts could change that though
Posted Sep 28, 2009 8:27 pm PT
There's something about Heavy Rain that's left me unconvinced, and I really don't know what it is, as I absolutely loved Fahrenheit!
Posted Sep 28, 2009 9:08 pm PT
@horseyjesse
I haven't played any of the Kingdom Hearts games but they intrigue me. Have you played Kingdom Hearts 358/2 yet?

@Foolz3h
I was confused at first when you mentioned Fahrenheit until I remembered that the game was only called Indigo Prophecy in North America. I really appreciated how innovative the it was and I hope Heavy Rain lives up to it.
Posted Sep 29, 2009 6:12 am PT
The KH games are amazing, especially if you love Disney (which I do) and/or the FF games. I haven't picked up the DS title yet, but I plan to in the near future (got to wait until the $$ is there, haha)
Posted Sep 29, 2009 1:17 pm PT
It would be pretty cool to see you around on PSN, well once I get my ps3 fixed lol. We don't have a lot of extra cash floating around either so she's just sitting there. Heavy Rain is looking pretty promising and I'm hoping it's living up to the hype it's getting. I've got my fingers crossed. The video previews that are up are completely amazing.
Posted Sep 29, 2009 4:32 pm PT
If you happen to buy it, enjoy!
Posted Sep 29, 2009 4:36 pm PT
@CamiKitten
It is hard to be a budget gamer.

I prefer games that are strong on the storyline and it seems like that will be the case for Heavy Rain.

@msudude211
Thanks. The possibility is getting bigger.
Posted Sep 29, 2009 6:26 pm PT
its still too exspecive for me sadly
Posted Sep 30, 2009 6:18 am PT
@contentxcontext
When money is tight it is hard to justify spending that much on a gaming system.
