The Frozen Throne (TFT) used to cost me an arm and a leg, I mean if time is money. This is probably the only game I have spent so much time on to develop my skill. Although it's a true milestone in the evolution of the Real time strategy genre, in my own experience, it was even more special. Firstly, it was published at a time when the Net in my country became good enough for me to play on European an US servers. Imagine, before that I had been playing Broodwar solely on LAN with local players, this new experience was quite overwhelming. And secondly, everybody was so damn crazy when it came out, and so was I. I still remember how my ex bringing the TFT cd and we installed it together. Though our first 2 vs 2 on Battle net was a loss, we soon developed an imbalanced Night Elf and Undead combo (hunt, fiend rushing
) which allowed us to have statistics like 30-6. I still keep some of our replays though it hurts too much to upload here
.

Nevertheless, enough about the past. Back to now, I have spent the last few days playing on Garena and practising to play on Battle net again. It's great to play solo games though I'm also looking for some good undead player to fill in the blank of my life. My account on both Blizzard Battle Net (Kalimdor and Azeroth) and Garena is Lovely_beauty, of course. Please add me to your friend list if you happen to be playing this game right now, and post your account name here so that I can add you too. Anyone want to solo vs me, you have a duel. Just don't suck like this guy please!

@ johnsteed7 I'd advise you to practise with computer insane first before playing on-line. In my experience, the community of this game are not very mannered! Besides, the history of Warcraft 3 depicted in its campaign is worth our time. (I played through it more than once)
I used to play with the Orcs, using that voodoo fella with those healing trolls. The front line had the standard grunts as tanks, but the real power of my army were the wind riders. The shadow hunter with the healing trolls is a nice way to keep your units alive.
I think there is no better RTS game than Warcraft III, although I have high expectations about Starcraft II (it's all Blizzard, after all).
By the way, this is a great source of Warcraft III knowlegde: http://classic.battle.net/war3/
I guess I just like to torture myself with these RTS games. When I'm taking a university class with the topic of postmodern deconstruction of the institutional nature of art and I'm beginning to get too big-headed for my own good - RTS games remind me that I'm not as smart as I would like to think! :-)
If there is a strategy game that I used to be a pro, it is Heroes of Might and Magic III. But this one is very different from Warcraft III, since it's turn-based.
@jepsen1977 Wanna trade your Master degree for my micro skill?
@ChristianKiss Sigh, Hero of Might and Magic 3, I miss those days. This game made me feel like I was playing chess. By the way, what's your opinion on the sequel: Heroes of Might and Magic 4?
But there're some shining things in Heroes IV, such as the graphics and sounds. Also, we can't forget that the heroes can actually fight as one of your units in combat, instead of overseeing everything at distance.
So I prefer Heroes III, but the sequel is also a great game. Heroes V tried to mix the best features from Heroes III and IV, but they (Ubisoft) failed. How I miss 3DO! By the way, I used to play Heroes III starting with Rampart. =)
But I never will succumb to the power of those ants! Never! *uninstalls game*
@Lovely_beauty - sorry to invade your blog.
and warcraft community (esp on Garena), as you mentioned, isn't quite well mannered. and it lowered the experience even more. they act like it is their life, and that's tightly tied to their life. and you'll find yourself drifting along them, becoming addiction, playing for win or lose, for proving yourself, while you can spend that time, and prove yourself in real life, by doing something which actually helps some one, helps yourself.
anyway, I believe that it ain't good for health, not anymore
@ ChristianKiss Oh my! Exactly what I think about it
@maven_zer09 Sigh I try not to take bad manners as something serious, mostly because I believe it's their age to be blamed, not their morality or something. But you are totally right, sometimes It's hard to believe people could become so cruel (in their words) merely because of a game. For those of us who have been through enough, it should not be a problem though, since we can clearly distinguish the border of real and virtual life. And about vision, I used to have bad eye sight but I took a laser operation and it really helped. Maybe you should consider it too.
@Lovely Beauty: Considering I often spend more time playing games than I do on my degree that might not be a bad trade :-) As for HOMM I have played them all from HOMM II and onwards up to and including IV. HOMM III is the best by far, but IV was pretty good also. The fact that heroes could fight was both good and bad. But in the end what has killed each and every HOMM game for me is that they feel too much like a "numbers game" i.e. who ever has the biggest army will win. That might not be a bad thing but I fail to see where the strategy is in this. The HOMM games are fun but they don't really require much thinking. Now, given that I suck at strategy games there is a good chance that I have missed something along the way, but I simply get bored with these games way too fast for my liking.
Also, I'm happy you are not one of those ,eh, "nerds" who are pompous with their degrees.
No, I'm not pompous about my degree. It's pretty much like any other work that if you put in the hours you are going to reap the rewards. I am proud of what I have achieved and I suppose it takes some skill to write long academic papers, but in the end how is that better than the garbage-man who make sure our streets are clean, or the check-out girl who make sure we can buy food, or the hairdresser that make sure we don't look like morons? Each job has its own benefits and drawbacks and so does earning a degree.
And here comes an off-topic ramble.
I was talking to my friends about up-and-coming games and naturally I want...no need Bioshock 2 yesterday and Dragon Age today, he was raving on about Sims 3 - I never played or even considering installing any of the Sims game and now I have this thing about dressing up characters...you know...customise these freaks.
Must be the coffee I'm drinking...
I agree with you about The Sims. I have never tried any of them. The idea of having my Sims do the stuff I hate to do in real life just doesn't appeal to me. I hate to clean my apartment so why should it be any more fun watching my Sim do this stuff? Also both Sims1 and 2 had a ton af expansion packs, I mean I have never seen so many XP's for a game before (not even Everquest1 had this many). But I do look forward to Dragon Age too. Bioshock 2 not quite as much. I wasn't a big fan of the first - sure it's a good game but disappointing compared to SS2. I know you love it to death but are you sure your coffee wasn't spiked when you played it, Azghouls? :-)
