A full description of the awards can be found here.
Congratulations to the Rams and Titans who won their first game this week, leaving the lowly Buccaneers to get off the schneid. With a Bronco loss, that just leaves Drew Brees and Peyton Manning to yet experience their first loss. More on the Saints a bit later.
As teams in the NFL begin to separate themselves from the pack so do we in the Pick 'em League but for the second week in a row there are shocking developments. For example, I find myself in the Top Ten midway thru the season. OK everyone you can lift yours jaws and restore them to their upright and locked position. I seem to be surviving the war of attrition while others are thriving and some are dropping like Obama's poll numbers.
Several categories did not meet the criteria for an award this week, including the Buckeye and Homer (neither of which gets awarded very often.) others have been touch and go so far such as the Gilligan, The Guiding Light, Hank Hill and Doogie. But this is the first week I haven't awarded the Van Dyke
Frasier
Momo of the Winter (poised to pass jokipper for the lead any day now), Sherasbear and Brandi1leigh (Excellent job, ladies!) and HeyStu's Sports Machine (no longer flying under the radar!) each turned in a splendid 10-3 mark, picking up their first Frasier for the year.
Meathead
NYGBRIAN246 had a rough week, picking up some early wins but few after that and ending up at 5-8. Yet I cannot fault his picks, most of those games could have easily gone the other way.
Wojo
Last week we witnessed in shock as the first and third place leaders plunged in the standings. Now this week, two more go down for missing the deadline. If I read once, I read a dozen times the wise counsel of our league commissioner, 123home123. Just go thru and choose the favorites in each game and then go back and make adjustments. It was thus somewhat astounding as well as humerous to see Mr. Home pick up a Wojo for failing to follow his own advice. And then last year's Grand Champion IndianaMom, who had been making tremendous strides to ascend the ranks in the last few weeks, missed the first round of games so she started in the hole 0-8. I believe tvfanatic91 has basically given up the ghost and so will probably not be around for any more awards. The big wiunner of course is Priest=Aura who finds himself in first despite four mediocre 9 win weeks in a row.
A Team
Brandi1leigh wins her second award for being the only one to realize that Arizona is a much better team on the road than at home and so chose the Carolina Panthers to prevail. Which they did.
Bobby Ewing
Hey, how about one more for Brandi1leigh for quietly and steadily ascending the ranks from median obscurity to prominence in the top 5!
That's it for the Brandi show. Seriously I am happy for our speech and debate teacher from the great state of Texas. Until next time this is Les....
Oh except there is one more thing, if you don't mind.
Columbo
As I said earlier, the New Orleans Saints have started out very well at 7-0, the best start in franchise history and many are already visioning them in the Super Bowl (Minnesota will have something to say about that). But even with all of their success, only four players in our league have marched with the Saints in all seven victories. They happen to be News Beacon of the Ohio Valley (yours truly), the current leader Priest=Aura (jokipper), Fish's Somewhat Accurate Picks and The Graphers (tuckgraph).
No time to do the standings this week.
This is Les Nessman saying "Good day and may the Good News be yours!"
