A full description of the awards can be found here.

After an unimpressive follow-up to a robust beginning, most players righted the ship and our scores reflect that. I went from 13-3 to 8-8 and now 13-3 again.

Nice bookends.

Awards not given this week include the Homer (too many rotten teams this year) the Wojo (the 5 minute deadline before each game seems to help in this regard) The Hank Hill (aberration placing the Colts in underdog status kept three players from claiming one this week) and the Buckeye (Cincy will be getting more votes now but the Browns?)

As Tony Reali used to say, let's light this candle.

FRASIER AWARD

Priest=Aura (jokipper) chose a great time to pick up his first LESTER for the season. A stellar 14-2 mark placed him just a game back of FinalSequel (Bobby) for the overall league lead. His lone misses were the Steelers loss to the Bengals and the Texans loss to the Jaguars. In these two contests, the league went 5-41 (self-congratulations for being one of the '5'. Way to go Kip! Ya gotta tell us though, what's behind your team name?

MEATHEAD AWARD

What can you say about BuskieBoy except that he seems to be an all or nothing kind of guy and in Week Three he and The Graphers (tuckgrah) are sucking wind at 7-9. I don't think I've ever seen someone go from last to first to last like that. Maybe he likes the next award so much (Bobby Ewing) and he knows the only way to win it is to stink it up the week before.

BOBBY EWING AWARD

Last week HeyStu Sports Machine saved me from getting the Meathead and this week, he deservedly keeps me from winning the Ewing. As was the case so often last year, our scores practically mirror each other. Stu started out 14-2, then plummeted to 7-9 but then rebounded nicely this week at 13-3.

GILLIGAN AWARD

Showcasing a nifty new gif, I pushed the Gilligan further up the list this week. Sherasbear must feel like the most snake-bit player out there. For the second week in a row, she gets a Gilligan. Three games went down to the wire this week where the lead changed and Sherasbear, Tuckgraph and Kegtown Compulsive Gamblers (mp34mp) all came out on the short end of the stick as Carson Palmer stunned the Steelers, Jay Cutler surprised the Seahawks and Brett Favre flabbergasted the 49ers. If an award was given for dumb luck, I'd get it as all three games went my way, making that 13-3 record look kind of tenuous.

GUIDING LIGHT AWARD

In the long run, consistency counts for more than excellence at any given moment. Case in point, Momo of the Winter (El Paquillo Loco) has yet to win a Frasier but because he is the only one to win at least 11 games in all three weeks, not only does he find himself just two games behind Bobby for the overall lead, he also picks up the Guiding Light Award this week and will continue to do so as long as he keeps up the double digit production. With the bye weeks starting up, this will be tougher now.

A-TEAM AWARD

OchoSucko (MarWash) is an unabashed Bengals fan but he went with the crowd and picked the reigning Super Bowl champs to upend his team. However, he was the only one who thought Jacksonville would beat the Texans and for that correct assessment, he wins this award.

DOOGIE AWARD

A good week to choose the kids. Both Sanchez and Stafford led their teams to victory. Three of us celebrate with them. Fish's Somewhat Accurate Picks (fishzone) jokipper and News Beacon of the Ohio Valley (Les Nessman of course).

VAN DYKE AWARD

Sorry Tuck if this looks like I'm piling on but Carolina and Miami are now a combined 0-6. let it go, man. Just step back and walk away.

This is Les Nessman saying good...

Oh, just one more thing....

COLUMBO AWARD

Several of us are 6-0 when it comes to supporting the Manning Brothers. Eli and Peyton are cruising along, picking up nothing but a 'W' for the Giants and Colts. And yet there is one among us who has a curious 2-4 mark, including 0-3, refusing to push the Giants tab. Even more curious is his team name, NYGBrian246, who again is not NYBrian121 as I incorrectly designated a couple weeks ago. 246 doesn't have a profile or any blog entries but I did find him in the NFL forum.

All right, that's all for Week Three. A number of interesting games are facing us this next week, including Vikings/Packers and Jets/Saints. This is Les Nessman saying 'Good day and may the Good News be yours!'

I thought BuskieBoy was a schoolbus driver, not an elevator operator. Great job with the Lesters. I think I may be in the middle of the pack for a while.

I didn't do well at all, but it was awesome to see the Steelers lose

Thanks for the awards! It was tough to pick Detroit to win, but it seemed like a good time to do it. I waffled on picking the Raiders and Colts, but at the last minute, changed the Raiders game and kept the Colts beating the Cards. I was a bit lucky there, since I think that last minute changes are like flipping a coin.

"Priest=Aura" was a 1992 song and album by Aussie band, The Church. It's based on a typo...actually, Priest=Cura was meant, but aura seemed even cooler so they stuck with the typo. I couldn't decide whether to name my team "Priest=Aura" or "Nostradumass", but my picks have been fairly good so far, so I'm sticking with P=A for now.

@ Indy! Good one Mom.
Anyway to quote the great philosopher Arnoldschwarzenegger, "I'll be back."

Wow, ya go away for a couple of weeks and ... LOL ... Fun reading, even if I'm now totally lost.

I humbly apologize for denying you some hardware for the second week in a row. If it's any condolence, "Dallas" went way downhill after Bobby walked out of the shower.
Posted Oct 1, 2009 6:27 pm PT
STU

I agree about Dallas. Thus the 'jump the shark' reference in the explanatory blog. And you can deny me the Meathead any day of the week.

Great Awards Show! I'm wearing a tux underneath these shorts. Just like last week's pics, I was so close to winning an award! First Bret snatches a win away, then Carson, Jay, and now Tommy! And after sticking with the Lions till the bitter win, I get poodos for the Panthers and Dolphins? I love it!

I feel i must give propers to MOJO, my faith in his run-game is the only reason i picked JAX over HOU... that dude is a stud for a little guy. Congrats to the DOOGIE winners, that's gutsy! Later .

MOM

Have no fear, you will get your groove thang goin again soon. Have a nice weekend!
Posted Oct 2, 2009 6:07 am PT
SHERASBEAR

And yet you have picked them every week thus far - pretty smart picking with your head and not your heart. You're in pretty good company tied for 11th with Brandi and MOM.

KIP

I have made more last minute changes this wek than any other so far - so many good games on tap.

If I had just Googled Priest=Aura I would have discovered the answeer for myself. I watched a couple of their vids, not bad. Not my cup of Earl Grey but I can see depth and feeling in their art.

BUS BOY

So you really are a bus driver? Great! School or city? Did I ever tell you about the time I was hit by a bus in Chicago back in 1987? Or was it 88? All I remember is that it ws winter and on the way to the hospital the ambulance doors flew open like in a Marx Brothers movie or something.

SHADOW

Welconme back. I was gone a couple weeks ago as well and so that's why this week's awards are a tad later than usual.

TUCK

Thank you for receiving the Van Dyke in the right spirit. Didn't realize when I dreamed it up that it might involve the Meathead winner as well so often.

BRYAN

I'm conflicted, maybe you can help me out. This week Johnson will make his first NFL start under center for Tampa Bay. But he's not technically a rookie. Should I include him with Sachez and Stafford in the Doogies?
Posted Oct 2, 2009 6:26 am PT
i think so; seeing as this is his first start as a QB. He's only played once or twice, right? Think of it this way, when Favre missed time Rogers filled in and then when Favre left, Rogers was still considered a rookie his first season as a starter. It all depends if you wanna go by the true definition of rookie or by if he's ever started. Later .

I am a school bus driver. My second year doing it. It's not too bad a job actually. Lots and lots of safety training and retraining!
I am driving some routes up in the north end, East Caledon and Bolton Ontario. BEAUTIFUL country and some really nice estate homes up there!

Did you get a settlement from the bus company? Just think how much worse it could have been!

BRYAN

Hey it's my little contest I guess I can tweak the rules as I go, OK there will be three QB's to be considered for the Doogie this week, wonder if anyone will go for all 3?

BUS BOY

We didn't catch who it was. I know it wasn't a city bus or commercial. I am 99% sure it was a church bus! The left rear side brushed against my face and tire glanced off my left foot. Nothing broken but a lot of cuts and bruises and I was walking with a cane for a few weeks. It is possible the driver didnt even realize what happened. I had the right of way but the bus kept going on a red to best traffic. The bus turned in toward me as I stepped off the curb. TW was already half way across and heard a thump .. When she turned around there I was in a heap in the street.

The first Guiding Light award ever?

Such an honor
I hope to keep earning them (and to get back to the lead).
Posted Oct 2, 2009 9:14 pm PT
LOCO

Si. As the award rewards consistency, I believe a pattern had to first be established. You have done very well so far. Keep it up!

An angel must have held you back.....so close.

Bet you had nightmares for awhile.

Life truly turns on that proverbial dime.

BUS BOY

That is only one of many close calls I have had. My guardian angels are among the most overworked cherubs in creation. Don't remember any nightmares. TW has those quite frequently tho. R U Ready for Week Four?
