So i'm happy about Obama's victory, but to be honest, i'm still a little stunned. It's not that it came as a surprise, it seemed most likely that he would win from a while now. But the fact that it's over, and he's no longer just a candidate...he's actually the president-elect... It's pretty overwhelming.
But despite all that fun stuff, this morning was quite a disappointment. It turns out prop 8 has most likely passed, which is some straight up bullsh*t. I understand that some people want to protect their view of marriage, but the "traditional" definition of marriage is a religious one, and the government has no place enforcing any religious view. If a church chooses to shun gay marriages and claim they're two men or two women can never married in the eyes of their version of God, whatev, but the government's role is to protect us, not to establish and enforce our sense of morality. As far as state and federal governments are concerned, marriage should be nothing more than a legal contract, and to revoke the rights of citizens to enter into that contract based on religious scruples is, well....some straight up bullsh*t.
So yeah, it's a bittersweet morning, so for now, I'm gonna try and focus on the positive, at least untill i know what i can do to help get the new amendment repealed. Overall it's a good morning. At least prop 4 didn't pass, and Barack Obama is president elect of the United States of America.

Yay for Obama! Even though I wrote in SaccharineWrath's name, I'm still happy he's president-elect.
I'm totally game to help you with rallies, covering sidewalks with chalky propaganda, or turning items at the grocery store into miniature billboards using stickers or magic markers. Let me know.

I was for Obama all the way and its amazing he is now the next President. I was watching the news segment on the election and they shown the results for prop 8. I was extremely suprised that many voted for it! I see it as you described, just a contract, a piece of paper that says your are married. It should be based on the bibles definition of a man and women. Who cares.

I hear ya, LM. There still is a very socially conservitive majority in this country and my own observation about social conservitives is that there is a tendency to overlook civil rights and liberty...I mean...after all, there is only one god, one religious text, a single point of view, I'm right and your wrong, so you better shape up or soonner or later the standar issue, if you get my drift, will come kicking at your door. At the extream end of this nighmarish vission I have, I see a living quote from Jello Biafra "...and if someone came for you one night and dragged you away, do you really think that your neighbors would even care?"

Ani_manga200: The quote is a play on words from a german lutherian minister who was killed in the nazi concentration camps during WW2. When Jello paraphrases this quote, I believe he is refering to any single group that has too much power. That is who 'They' are and they scare me.

Im also happy with Barack Obama winning. =D
I heard about what happened with the goverment wanting to enforce the no gay marriage policy and I really disagreed with it immediately. The goverment has no right to not allow people express how they feel by passing such law as the no gay marriage law thing. The bible does not allow anything gay related but the goverment has no right to interfere with that.
