GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

So I was looking through the technical support forums for assistance on the whole, "HTML not well formatted, tags, whatever blah blah blah." something of that nature. I couldn't find anything in the RECENT postings so I went ahead and copied the error, pasted it into a new topic only to find out it had already been posted about so I couldn't use that title.

I decided, ok I'll just do a search for this error and read the information on it since it's obviously been talked about before. Cool, I found 3 topics however two were in January and February of 08 and the other was in June of 2007 I think. So, I'll read the postings. Hmmm, seems other people are having the same trouble I am.

It would also seem that only other uses have answered the question with what they think might be wrong but no response from any GS employee with a solution on the matter (you know, since I'm still getting the error almost 8 months later). Maybe I'll just post a quick response to see if a solution was found. (This was yesterday.)

This morning:

OMG OMG, Terms of Use Violation! You bumped a 6 month old topic! (Well no **** Sherlock, why create a new topic when I can just bump an old one right? Don't abuse the new topic button right? Or else get the "THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED" response.)

Too bad there was no reply button from the auto generated gamespot e-mail. My reply would not have been pleasant. Just my 2 gil. (Eat it.)

My response would have been short, probably something along the lines of, "Get bent".

Wow, you actually did what you were supposed to do, and got a TOS violation. That is just wrong.

Was it a warning or an actual violation? In my experience when I have issue with a trigger happy mod I contacted Mailer Daemon and he was of help. I would suggest a friendly pm and see what happens, he's always been nice to me. Obviously you felt damned if you do damned if you don't and you should be entitled to at least an explaination if not reversal.

I've had a few moderation before that made no sense too, but this one definitely wins the award of most pointless moderation.

Hmmm.

well it says in the rules like no bumping any old threads because its " disruptive" i think, but i think its a very dumb rule, like why bother even keeping old threads to look at if we cant bump them.

"Disruptive Behavior - Behavior that disrupts the Service for other users, intentional or not, are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:.. "bumping" older topics (posting in them well after the last post)..."

No, explanation necessary, Wegan. Straight from the ToU.

And who would remember a thread from 6 months ago???

Er.... Fight the power?

SO if a brand new member has something to contribute and restarts and "old" thread this is "bumping"? That couldn't be any more lame! I agree, all old threads that would garnish a late post moderation should all auto lock! In law terms this would be considered a bait and switch tactic, entrapment, or both! If there is no safe way to post a response then WHY leave it open! Just out of curiosity is there a defined time frame that can be used as a messure of oldness? Or is all of this just subjective at best???

Who cares if someone remembers or not a thread from 6+ months ago, all that matters to me is if the thread is relevant to what is being asked which in this case it obviously was.

the ToU is so balls. what a contradiction. first they tell you to not make duplicate topics and then they go and f*ck you all up for following that guideline.

eitherways, i've always hated the ToU. i'm always violating it for not entirely censoring my swearing, and i guess it shows, but i dont care, thats the way i am.

Yea, I know where your coming from I've probably got about 10-15 of these violations, mostly because i'm a rebel... LOL.

All threads that are old like that should auto lock as someone else suggested. Here in GS you can get modded for everything as I'm sure many people know. I've gotten modded for some really stupid reasons. Actually, I think the worst one I saw was by someone named Loic, here's a SS of his "violation" http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g231/loic54/stupidmoderation.jpg. That's right, that has to be the worst one you've ever seen hasn't it? Kind of makes you feel better doesn't it LOL

i'm going to be moderated?

Nestea King that was awesome lol... I have also been modded for some dumb reasons. Sometimes its understandable but overall I find the moderation of GS very lacking in sense.
