Since i have nothing to say in my journal i decided to talk about Dragonshard. I'm a big fan of PC rpg and adventure games. Sadly in these days of hype and first person shooting too few gamers play rpg and adventure games.

Time are not good lately for pc rpg lovers. After the flop that was Lionheart and Metalheart and the fact that Bioware sold it's pc soul for an hat full of money it's easy to be negative. Well there's a little game coming that could brings some light. It's not really a rpg but more a mix between rpg and strategy. It's called Dragonshard by Liquid Entertainment. The rpg part could be definately another flop à la Metalheart and Lionheart. But one can hope. This game definately has potential. Outdoor the game is a tradional rts. Indoor dungeon the game is a tradional rpg. Seems like a great mix specially if you like both genre. Anyway right now this is the only option for AD&D fans who would die for a good AD&D rpg that is not a mmorpg.

What is cool is you can play the rts online with champions only. Champions are characters you can upgrade by playing the rpg. So playing the rts online with champions only will probably be like Ogre Battle for the snes which was a great mix between rpg and rts too.

I think if the rpg portion of the game is well done it could be a fun game. I'm not a big fan of rts but the perspective to play rts gameplay with characters i level up in a rpg is great.

Liquid Entertainment can make a good rts game. But can they make a good rpg/rts ? Only time will tell. But if they can achive it they will have a winner in hands. Well not really since today rpgs that are not labelled and hyped as open-ended (even if most are not more open-ended that what Baldur's Gate was) tend to flop in store. But it's great to see that some little companies still want to make something new and don't buy into crap hype like open-ended or mmorpg gameplay. We know it will not pay. But they sure have balls to try it.
