You know, I have long been a fan of games that are not available in the US. I had an import PlayStation (a friend bought one thinking it will play US games, I got a great deal) to play some of the DragonBall, Gundam and RPG's that were unavailable here, but now I'm getting even deeper in the system.

Since getting import games is much easier now, thank you internet, I have found that having region free systems are something that should really be standard. Getting Bleach, Jump Ultimate Stars and Eyeshield 21 for the DS made me so happy. On its way to my house now is Pro Yakyuu Spirits 6 for the PS3.

I've always pondered trying to get into the import game business, but living where I am at, the shipping costs to get the product to me would be awful.

So how many of you have good stories or memories of importing games or just of the games themselves?

How much do they run now? When I use to import they were upwards of $100 for a single game. Back then I had no pc(very early 90's)so internet was not an option. I use to call sites in the back of game mags I imported so many RPGs thinking I could somehow figure my way through them and no dice. So what I do? I kept buying more up until FFVII. That was when I finally stopped for good. You need to be able to understand the story in an RPG so I would get stuck so many times cause I would have no clue what to do next. Well I hate to say it but when FFVII came out here (7 loooong months later) I bought it, replaced the Japanese discs in the NA case and said someone had bought it for me already(I know, I was a bad boy!). So to this day I have the Japanese case and instructions but NA discs for FFVII. I did buy a lot of sports mainly for PSX and N64. The N64 was easier to...um...use the Japan carts lets just say. PSX was more fickle and I will leave it at that before I get myself moderated!

Well the game that I bought was only $80, so that is much better than the $100's that I spent on games back in the day as well. And I remember those mag ads, I bought only one game from them, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Yeah, I had no idea what I was reading, all I knew was to kill things. I was lucky to have a nice import store near me in Pittsburgh, Joy's Japanimation (www.joysjapanimation.com). They always had a ton of anime, wall scrolls, manga, soundtracks... the place was awesome. The prices have come way down, I mean most places you can get a game for $10 - $30 over US costs, which is much better than when it used to be double. I just miss having a store front to go to when I want a game. I'm glad that ebay stores and online places exist, but still, I loved Joy's because I could go and play the game before buying it.

But I agree that the PSX was, um, fickle. :-)
