2008 is coming to an end! Of course that means we take every single game released since 1st of January of this year, put the side by side and decide which game deserves to be on the top!
2008 was indeed a great year for games (Maybe not so much for Wii with the exception of Brawl unfortunately
). We have seen 2 games that got perfect 10, yes I am of course talking about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Grand Theft Auto IV.
Wii fans this year got to play one of the greatest multiplayer game this year, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and also we see many innovative games like Little Big Planet and even World of Goo.
Now before I get to the list I must first tell you that this is a list made completely by me and therefore you are likely to not agree with the entire list.
10. Spore (PC)
Spore for the PC is a fantastic game. This simulation/real time strategy game allows you to create your creatures and bring them from the microscopic single cell life stage, to a giant civilization and explore the galaxy filled with user generated worlds and creatures.
Why is it Number 10?
Spore is a very large game which features a ton of tools and the many unique and different stages gives the game a lot of replay value as well as versatility. The only downside of this game is that each stage isn't very amazing in anyway, in fact some stages, like the civilization stage is like an RTS with much fewer options. Despite all that, when you put all stages together, it makes Spore a very great an addicting game and that's why it's number 10.
.
9. Dead Space
"Scary, scary, scary," that's all you need to say to describe Dead Space. This game puts you in the shoes of an engineer, battle aliens in a very dark and scary mining ship. This game is even scarier than RE4. If you played this game for the first few hours and not get frightened even a little, you probably have no soul… (either that or you're Chuck Norris&hellip![]()
Why is it Number 9?
This game is crazy. I've only played it once when I visited my friend's place 2 months ago, I believe. And since I haven't played it since I can't make anymore comments other than it's a great game, it's scary, and I don't think I'll play it again because I already have problems with RE4.
.
In a world of not "enough hardcore games for Wii" comes No More Heroes, an extremely bloody, extremely violent game exclusively for the Wii. No More Heroes features great Killer7-like graphics, and the game also makes good use of the Wii remote's motion sensing capabilities allowing you to battle your enemies and make combos in a way no other console can.
Why is it number 8?
Well other than the fact that it is probably the only hardcore third party game for the Wii, No More Heroes did in fact show that you can make combat on the Wii both fun and hardcore at the same time. The art direction of the game is great, and, who DOESN"T want to be able to swing around a light saber and chopping people's heads off and turning them into a fountains of blood????
.
Set in modern Tokyo, The World Ends with You is one of SE's best RPG on the DS. The game features some of the best graphics on DS, it also has a ton of variety in the game, the pin system and the combat is also very unique.
Why is it Number 7?
The World Ends with You is one of the best game on the DS, making use of many of the DS unique features. The sound track of the game is awesome, the music is superb, and while many may find the combat while difficult at first, is actually very addicting. There's also a ton of unique things that I can't list here but yeah, that's why it's 7. (I guess maybe it's because I love JRPGs) ![]()
.
6. World of Goo
World of Goo is a very interesting puzzle game where the player has to construct towers and bridges using the cute critters known as goo, in order to get to the exit. The laws of physics play a big role here and there are also many obstructions that will prevent you from reaching your goal. World of Goo is arguably the best WiiWare games to date.
Why is it number 6?
Well you have to give credit to 2D Boy, with only 3 members in the team (at its peak), they prove that you don't need a large team or a lot of money to create a great game. You just need dedication and a bit of creativity. This unique puzzle game proves that, and they deserve the spot at number 6.
.
5. Fall Out 3
The third game in the series, Fallout 3 is an action RPG that features a very open-ended gameplay and elements of a First Person Shooter. The large world and different ways to level up your character gives this game a long play time and replay value.
Why is it number 5?
Being a RPG with elements of a shooter, Fallout 3 is likely to satisfy both the RPG fans and shooting fans too. The non linear gameplay and different ways to level up your character means this game has incredible amount of replay value, and that's why it's number 5.
.
A little, yet big planet. Okay, I know, it doesn't make sense, lol, LittleBigPlanet is a platformer where you control a sack doll called Sackboy through a variety of levels created by developers as well as content generated by yourself, and users around the world.
Why is it number 4?
Like Spore, the level of customization here is great, in fact, it might even be better
well, maybe not, but LBP gameplay is both fun and addicting, the ability to create and customize your own levels as well as download and play new ones created by users around the world gives LBP practically endless amounts of replay value. That alone however is not enough to get it any higher, so it takes the number 4 spot.
.
Most anticipated Wii game for like, EVER, SSBB is the fighting game for the Wii. It's like the Nintendo gods listen to us, and gave us a game where many Nintendo characters of different franchises join the fight, the brawl, creating what is known today as one of the most successful series of fighting game, and one of the best video game crossovers.
Why is it number 3?
Well several other than the fact that this game is fun and great, the online multiplayer is great and all but of course this game has problems that caused it to be bumped to 3. Some of the characters are not balanced, and they also nerf a few of my favorite character. Okay I guess that's not a real reason, but they should make the game balance next time… Oh and fix that online lag...
.
GTA IV, one of the most anticipated game of 2008, is also one of the best. GTA IV gives you the same gameplay as previous GTA titles with many improvements. While you can follow the story if you like, but it's much more fun to do like what the title of the game says! Grand theft auto, you steal a car, you kill people, you crash it, and you steal another one! GTA IV also features a many multiplayer modes like racing, but the best part? It's that you can now wreak havoc with your buddies!
Why is it number 2?
Well, you cause pain, you steal cars, you get a great story, you cause more pain and steal more cars and occasionally a motorcycle, you get multiplayer, you steal more cars, you kill people, and oh yeah, they have some nice music in those cars. The best part about GTA IV, is you get to do things you never get to do in real life. But why is it only number 2, and not 1? Because number 1 is stolen by a game that's much more solid (no pun intended).
.
1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
Funny, the number 1 game on the list also has the longest name @.@. Anyway, MGS4 by Konami is a stealth action game featuring our favorite Solid Snake, as he crawls his way on his final mission – to terminate Liquid Ocelot. MGS4 also features a multiplayer mode, which can be considered a standalone game seeing how it's on its own disc, while not as great as those of CoD4, it is still pretty amazing, and of course, we love hiding in cardboard boxes and throwing girl magazines.
Why is it number 1?
As the final Solid Snake game chronologically (but hopefully not last of the series), Kojima has certainly put in a lot of effort in to making this the best game ever. The in game graphics are so great that all cut scenes uses the games own 3D engine, and everything in the game is seamless, going from cut scene to gameplay seamlessly. MGS4's multiplayer is also great, it features several modes that can't be found in other games. The story of the game is great, with many twists to the story, everything is great, it got a freakin' 10! MGS4 is the perfect reason to buy a PS3. So there you go.
Unsatisfied with the list?? COMMENT!!
Comments
@MS: You should play World of Goo. It's great. You can also get it for PC, but Wii is muuuuch better, plus the Wii version has co-op. And Dead Space is cool, though I got to some frustrating moments like, running out of air...
