During the late 1920's a young vieninan painter by the name of Fritz Lang was hired by german film studio UFA to make a movie adaptation of the magazine novella, metropolis. Langs wife wrote the script and production began. Tall, sets of godlike proportions were built, thousands of extras were hired, a working elevator was built. Never again would so much care and planning be put into art direction. The film cost two million to make and nearly bankrupted the studio. Against Lang's wishs the film was cut from two hours to about 95 minutes for international release and new title cards were put in place. The missing footage was for ever lost. Until only recently a restoration was carried out to restore the original negative and put the original title cards in to tell the whole story. Metropolis is the last and greatest film of the german exoressionist movement and maybe the greatest of all silent movies.

This movie is an excellent adaptation of Phillip K. Dick's Novel, "Do Androids Dream of electric Sheep". The Movie is visually stunning, though a minus is the weak plot. That's okay though because of the memorable lines, the excellent score by Vangelis and atmosphere all make up for it. I watch this movie time and time again just to be immersed in the world of Los Angeles, 2019.

Mean streets follows the story four Italian American hoodlems who work for the lower end of the mafia as they get drunk at bars, brawl, collect payments, have sex and "catch a movie".
This movie launched scorsese into internartional and critical acclaim. Though like a fine piece of cheese, he gets better with age. That's not to say that mean streets is bad. In all respect the direction is marvelous and the acting is superbly improvised (something which scorsese carried to to the rest of his career). A few things bugged me though. First off the camerawork could have been alot better. But I guess scorsese was pushing for stark realism as the films main inspiration is "Shadows". Two unforgivible annoyances would have to be the sound issues in the film and the abrupt ending. Highly reccomended.

Whereas most war films on vietnam show you the devestation and horror and the people it affects, Mr. Coppola and his skilled use of the camera, not to mention his wonderful and excellently selected crew of skilled actors such as martin sheen, marlon brando and robert duvall bring to life the horror and make you feel it on a personal level as it cuts you up psychologically and gets you to level that you want to turn your head from the screen and forget what you saw - but you can't. You're enthralled by the wonderful photography, the marvelous score by carmine coppola and the frank realism of it all. It makes you think about what a waste war is on civilized society.

While I could go off and tell you what a great movie eraserhead is i'll be honest - it's not everyones cup of tea. This movie will seem confusing and weird to most. It's even been lauded as not having a plot. While that is true I believe to fully enjoy it you must appreciate each seen with its splendid grey shaded photography. If your still confused by the end of the film watch it a few more times and think of your own interpretation. Not your usual conventional narrative film, but then again we all want to watch something a little different out sheer interest sometimes. Love it or hate it, Eraserhead is an absolute mind **** - and thats why I love it. I bow my hat to you Mr. Lynch.

A great gangester film with a beautiful score by Ennio Morrecone (as always) and wonderful acting. Though I give it Four out of Five because scenes of rape and child nudity / sex scenes will turn off some viewers. Otherwise a seminal film.

This could be the finest damn horror movie ever made.
I mean everything works so perfectly in this movie. The casting, the lighting, the gore; they all sync effortlessly with each other. The Excorist may have been shocking while Halloween was suspensful, but they do not compare to the amount of terror that you feel throughout the entireity of The Texas Chainsaw Masacre.
Leatherface will be remembered by all as the most chilling horror movie character to ever grace celluoid.

Germany is in panic when a child murderer strikes again. Police sprawl all over germany for clues; germany's criminal underground fear losing business, so they hire the help of beggars to watch the streets. The mystery unfolds and thus the hunt for Hans Beckert begins.
Thats the genius of M. You can watch it a hundred times over and still enjoy it. The story is very simple; but it should be. Police try to track down and arrest a murderer by searching for clues. A subplot conecerning an orginazation or person going to extreme legenths to stop the criminal for their own gain or benefit. The two plots then later combine ; and then resolve.
This formula has been used in hundreds of crime movies since then because M created the crime genre.
And thats why M is an important film that should be viewed by many.

Good double feature with funny / discusting faux trailers in between. Planet Terror is action packed, funny and gory. Whilst Deathproof is what you'd usually expect from Quentin Tarantino - good (but sometimes slow) pacing, well written dialogue and the occasional car crash. Overall a decent movie that keeps your attention over the three hour running time. A must see for old grindhouse devotees or Tarantino / Rodriguez fans. The Movie can only be appriciated fully in cinema amoung the audience joining in with the laughter, the gasps and the occassional gross out.

"Monty Python meets ninteen eighty four"
When I watched this film for the first time I was amazed by the production values. A quirky, funny and relevent take on our government having too much control over us as individuals.
Terry Gilliam is a visual genius and a master of direction; and Brazil is proof of this.
Each scene plays out perefectly, the script is funny as it is witty and the performaces are excellent. The film constantly pulls you back to watch it again, so you may be emersed in its world once more and discover a new tidbit or hidden message which you havn't noticed upon previous viewings.
In short, an excellent film which deserves multiple viewings to apprecite it fully.
