There was a movie that came out on the 4th of July and that movie as you know is Transformers. When i first heard of it being made back in mid 2006, i was skeptical but excited at the same time. I was anticipating when i would see the trailer, and finally i did. All anticipation was lost after the trailer ended (Not the teaser mind you). While the action and effects looked good there was one person in the movie who i didnt like too much. That person was Shia Labeouf. Sure i thought he was ok in "Even Stevens" but after that he just sucked, so i thought he would just take this movie down with him. To make matters worse its directed by Michael Bay, some would argue his movies are good. I beg to differ however.
When i actually saw the movie with a friend, it started out ok enough. The attack on Qatar, the introduction of Shia's character, Sam Witwicky, and when he bought his car. After that is when it started going downhill. If i already didnt like Shia or the character he played in the movie, i hated him when he left his friend in the park for a girl he barely knew and could have easily blew him off. Im thinking if i was his friend i would have kicked his ass next time i saw him. Anyway that ruined his character IMO. Then theres the fact that the movie concentrates too much on his "love life" than the transformers themselves. The humans had way more spotlight than the robots. I didnt come to the theatre to watch "Hormones of Sam", i came to see Transformers!
Sam's girlfriend-to-be in the movie (Megan Fox) was nothing but eyecandy, she was useless. Her whole purpose in the movie was to take up time and distract your attention away from what you should be focusing on - Transformers!
It also seems i am the only one who thinks it was stupid how Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving) was frozen through like 80% of the damn movie. And dont get me started on that pathetic team of hackers and analysts that took up like a whole 30 min of the movie. Did anyone notice how they never contributed to the story what so ever!? They were filler, they were purposely put into the movie so they could waste time.
Everyone says "Transformers was so action packed!", yes it was, but theres more to a movie besides explosions, or there should be anyway. It seems people dont like to think with movies that much. People went to see Transformers in droves to see everything in the previews. The only thing not shown in the previews that much, action wise, was the battle with Megatron.
I have always said they should make a Beast Wars movie, people say "There are no people in Beast Wars!" Thats the frickin point. If there are no people they will be forced to focus on the machines and not filler. Atleast not filler with humans.
Im done ranting, but before i stop heres some food for thought. This should make you think the movies story wasnt so thought out. When Megatron first came to Earth for the "Allspark" what era was it? Like the damn 1920's, what frickin machines are worth getting during that time!?
Rating: 3/10
Resident Evil: Extinction is the movie of the year, i guarantee it wont get as much money, becuase its not hyped up to heaven. But it will be better thats for sure.
