This film is an unusual piece of work. Shot from the first person vid cam style the effects are unbelievable and the acting is outstanding. It has everything, a love story, action, great effects, outstanding film production, and an incredible ending... This film will become a cult classic!! I saw this movie the year it came out, on the big screen. I was dumbfounded!!! This is another under rated dynamic film, I have been shocked over the years that this film did not become a classic. It's true it is a cult classic movie and in my book it is one of the finest films I've ever seen ( I've seen ton's). Not only a fantastic sound track by Peter Gabriel, but an outstanding story that makes you laugh and cry with an outstanding cast If you have never seen this film I highly recommned it!

If you believe the propaganda from religious leaders about this film don't read this. If you are a free thinker read on. I took my six year old son to see this movie and we both loved it. I had to stop and give this some thought before I wrote a review. Most of the time I write from off the cuff but this one needed thought.
First of all, I find all the protesting by religious representatives needless. The very fact that a friend of mine said he wasn't going to the movie because it was anti God proved the propagandist brouhaha was working. First let me assure you the movie is not anti God. If anything it is very anti organized religion and this is what I believe has religious leaders up in arms. In the movie everyone has a Demon, or familiar if you will. The Demon/Familiar is obviously an extension of the soul of each person. In the movie the Magisterium (Religious Priesthood) is secretly cutting the demon's of children away from them, hence in a way the magisterium (Church) is taking a part of the soul of each child away. Now I have always been a spiritual person but I do believe that over the centuries the Religious Priesthoods have been in control of people's souls and have preyed on the spiritually impoverished for power and wealth. In fact it was the priesthoods that had Jesus put to death. The film also speaks to parallel worlds and Dust which may be a way to join these worlds and bring freedom and knowledge to all beings. Once again the historical facts are that Priesthoods and Fraternal orders have always kept certain knowledge to themselves in order to control those who do not know. Perhaps this is what has religious leaders and others concerned, free thinking has always been the enemy of those who wish to control. During a moment in the film Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) asks Mrs. Coulter (Nicole Kidman) what the Magisterium does, she tells her that they tell people what to do, that some people just don't know what's good for them. When confronted with the fact that she (Mrs. Coulter) said she does what she wants, she replys that they (The Magisterium) tell people what to do in a nice way. Perhaps the truth is too much for religious leaders and perhaps it's time we as free thinkers need to take a second look at those so called leaders. In the words of the Great Bard "Me thinks the Lady doth protest too much".

The Devils is a horrific rendition of a true story, based on the historical novel by Aldous Huxley "The Devils of Loudon". Not for the squeamish or devout Catholics, this tale depicts the hypocrisy and evil intnetions of the Inquisition and Early Catholic power hungry priests and their interpretation of the Bible. The Devils is full of macacbre and frightening scenes and depictions and will leave you in a stupor of disbelief. The cast is an allstar one and the acting is superb, one of Ken Russell's greatest achievements. This is a very rare and hard to find movie.
