I've wanted to start this blog for awhile now and what better way to begin then with my Detroit Tigers going back to the World Series for the first time since 1984? The first time since I've been alive and just three years removed from a 119 loss season. I've been watching the Tigers for as long as I can remember and have suffered through the Buddy Bell, Larry Parrish, Phil Garner and Alan Trammel years and I totally agree with the person, from last week's clincher against the Yankees, who had a sign that said "Leyland for Governor" (he'd be better than the either of the two candidates running but I won't get into that mess right now). It's been an amazing turn around for this team and the way they won, with Maggilo's 3 run home run with two strikes, two outs, in the bottom of the ninth perfectly portrays how this entire season has been.
"It's a long way from 119 losses," said third baseman Brandon Inge. "We can finally put that to rest. We're going to the World Series and I can't believe it."
Neither can I, and it's such a great feeling.
This week's TV roundup:
I'm really disappointed that Studio 60 and The Nine aren't doing better in the ratings, along with Friday Night Lights. All 3 are great new dramas and I really hope they find an audience before its too late.
30 Rock premiered this week and I enjoyed it. It wasn't outrageously funny but there were a lot of little moments that made me smile and laugh. I'm definately looking forward to the next few episodes as comedy pilots are normally some of the weakest in a series...
I couldn't watch my Thursday night shows this week until Friday afternoon, so of course 2 out of 3 were better than they've been all season. The Office had its funniest episode in awhile, my only complaint being the Jim storyline. I'm a JAM fan so I obviously hated the chemistry between him and Karen, but more than that, I miss him in the office, interacting with Michael and Dwight and the rest of the staff. Ryan jumping in with Pam's movie story was funny but while I love Ryan, he's just not Jim.
What can I say about Grey's? The episode reminded me why I love the show so much. It had the perfect balance of humor (Meredith high on morphine was some of the funniest TV I've seen in a long time) and drama (how heartbreaking, yet perfect, was Denny's phone call?). I love Addison (her conversation with Meredith and then telling Derek not to hurt her again was just great). Christina had some great one-liners and how can you not love Bailey? I was obviously thrilled with the triangle resolution, because while I love Chris O'Donnell, it's always been obvious that Derek and Meredith belong together. Finn may have been "the better guy" but Derek is the love of her life.
That's all for now I guess. I'm kinda glad SNL was a repeat tonight as the NASCAR race ran over time and my local news has been running an extended edition with coverage of the big win. It'll mess up the CSNL broadcast (if it even airs) but hopefully if I set the tape long enough, I'll be able to catch the whole thing.
