Sorry - haven't blogged in a while - a mixture of being mega busy and mega uninspired! The new site layout disorientated me slightly and caused me to shy away from the site a little more. I won't rant about the likes and dislikes I have, I just hope the bugs are sorted if nothing else..

Anyway, a new challenge is here (yey!)

----

Challenge 10 - Guilty Pleasures - We all have music, films or hobbies we're embarrassed about but love secretly! Now's the time to name and shame....split into five categories; TV, Music, Film, actors and misc (hobbies, etc)

Disclaimer: The below embarrassing items of media wonder are clas*fied as such by the author (me!) and by definition are not intended to harm or criticise anyone else who may enjoy these products or those who consider them 'cool'.

(In otherwords, all the things I've mentioned in my blog are embarrassing for me to like, but please don't get offended! It's all subjective and a little bit of fun!)

-------------------------------------------------

Television

I'm not embarrassed of too many TV shows I watch, I'm into some superhero cartoons like Justice League, X-Men and Batman which is not something I'd admit to many people I've just met; I am a 'superhero fangirl' so although embarrassing, its more of an embarrassing extreme to my personality! One that's terribly embarrassing considering my personality is Laguna Beach - I really enjoyed it. I have no idea why because the people on the show epitomise everything I hate about young people these days but god I love it! Don't hate me, anyone who loves Laguna Beach or The Hills - it's just very not 'me' and therefore incredibly embarrassing! I also adore Pocoyo, a kiddie show narrated by Stephen Fry; I dated an animation student at university so I blame that! Really it's just too cute to be embarrassing...no really it is I swear!!

-------------------------------------------------

Music

My music taste has always been a little random, I like a bit of No Doubt, Daft Punk I'm even partial to a bit of Marilyn Manson but also - and here's my guilty pleasure - Britney Spears. Let me first say, I was 12 years old when she first 'burst onto the scene' so I was the niche market she appealed to (along with pervy old men!). She was the first popstar I was obsessed with so I've defended her to the hills through all her recent years of troubles (despite the fact that the girl clearly went ga-ga for a few years!). I love listening her music when I'm doing housework; I'm a proper old-school Britney fan and, yep, I'm damn proud of it (but also, yes deeply ashamed!) Most pop divas don't have the luxury of my pride, most I say are awful but secretly love; I have a bit of Shania Twain on my ipod (my mum's fault!) and of course Mariah Carey! I also like Girl Aloud who are just pure poppy trash (for my American friends, Girls Aloud won an 'American Idol' type competition in the UK; in otherwords they are entirely manufactured).

(A more innocent time )

-------------------------------------------------

Film

I own the whole Fast and Furious collection and I'm currently in a brief over the top obsession stage with them. I'm also dead excited for the fourth instalment which I will be forcing my friends to go and see - secretly of course, outwardly I will seem as uninterested as possible! I know nothing about cars really and I'm not a 14 year old boy so this guilty pleasure is yet another baffling one! Even worse is that my favourite instalment so far is probably Tokyo Drift which is easily also the worst and cheesiest. On to another set of films, Scooby Doo I've watched too many times (the shameful reason is given below) even though it is awful beyond words... Princess Diaries also make me feel warm and fuzzy when I watch them (that's Disney for ya!) and I admit that I watch them for a much needed bit of innocence in my life. Sometimes as well, my friend Katherine (yes I'm bringing you into this one!) and I fast-forward through Bring In On just to watch the last 10 minutes and then moan about how the Toros SO had the better routine!

-------------------------------------------------

Actors/Character

I have a crush on Velma from the Scooby Doo it's a geek thing. Or an intelligence thing.. Or maybe it's an orange jumper thing? Who knows but either way it's a little weird. Linda Cardellini made her almost geeky-sexy in the live action films which is where the shameful crush manifests from but I think its harboured from an earlier affection to the cartoon version. Whatever the reason, it is without a doubt a baffling crush! Another more normal crush, but one I've been too embarrassed to admit is Michael Cera (he was in Juno by the way - I loved him in those little yellow shorts), he has a real geeky charm I find so crushsome!

(*sigh* )

-------------------------------------------------

Miscellaneous

I'm not OCD at all but I recently listed all my DVDs and games I own on a Microsoft Access spreadsheet; each have a picture of the DVD cover attached....oh the shame... I'm also absolutely obsessed with making sure my ipod playlist is impeccably neat (i.e. no duplicate songs, all band name correctly written, all songs in order) which again suggests I'm a little obsessive-compulsive but I'm honestly not....I just take pride in my gadgets It's also been explained to me by certain members of my family that naming my computer is incredibly odd - which I agree with, but this hasn't stopped me naming my new computer! Derek!

Well I've named and shamed most of my more awful embarrassments. Anyone have any they wish to share? Promise I won't laugh!!

Awww they're not even that embarrassing! Aside from Britney, which is hideous Only joking! Right lets move through this blog!!

TV - pretty bad! I've never seen either of them, but I can't imagine you watching Laguna Beach!! You've been keeping that a secret! As for superheros, that's cheating - it's so awesome to be retro right now and you know it!!!

Music - ahaaa I see your plan! Convince people you're not that bad with the likes of No Doubt and then sneak Britney in afterwards! I'm not falling for it! Didn't know you liked Shania Twain (that don't impress me much... ha ha, no not funny?!) - but I'm not surprised at Mariah Carey or Girls Aloud. I don't mind Mariah Carey have to say!

Films - Tokyo Drift?!!?! Really!? I'm so shocked... I just never knew that about you! But you're totally wrong! Number one rocked, then it all went a bit wrong! Oh and thanks so much for the name and shame with Bring It On!! Ah well... I suppose I can't deny it. Toros rule!!

Crushes - So weird!! I had no clue. I guess it really is a geek theme!!! I don't think they're that embarrassing, well maybe Michael Cera considering you're not a teenage girl!

Ah, got to the end of my epic comment! Which is almost as long as your blog... Your Misc embarrassing, fairly embarrassing I'll admit. My computer is named Goliath and it would kick Derek's arse! Just for the record If you want to come round and categorise all my DVDs I might let you now! Yayy for the new blog anyway, awesome stuff, only mildly embarrassing!

Yes I know....Tokyo Drift and Laguna Beach *Hangs head* - See how it puts my Britney thing into great perspective on the ol' embarrassment scale!??

I'm partial to a little new Birtney, since her music is pretty catchy when you're out at a club. The Hills and Laguna Beach...for shame!!! Hhaha. I seriously hate F AND THE F. *points and laughs* hehe, kidding!

The Hills and Laguna Beach are my guilty pleasure. I like Doctor Who and Stargate: Atlantis, but my friends view it as nerdy sci fi Haha, I like Britney too! Also Boybands (Nsync, Backstreet boys etc.) but I'm not ashamed of it... I proclaim it haha Oh and Soulja Boy Which is a little out of character for me but eh I love Daniel Radcliffe... I wish to marry him Aw don't be ashamed of loving Michael Cera, it's only natural! I love him more from Arrested Development than Juno, but only because in Arrested Development he had his own Star Wars kid video I should pay you to organise my iPod. It's new and I'm lazy haha. Have a nice week!

Mark: Britney's new stuff is actually great to listen to whilst out at clubs but then we all dance to anything when intoxicated with alcohol! I feel much shame over Laguna Beach and F&F but hey...lol

Steph: Yey for liking Laguna Beach too Don't worry about Doctor Who or Stargate - I think its cool to be a nerdy at the moment...I'm also a lover of boybands (NSync is my fav)Soulja Boy you're on your own with though I need to watch Arrested Development! Michael Cera is such a little cutie! I'd def organise your ipod for you! lol

Wow, great a new blog! I totally get your blogging behaviour but you might have expected that. And there is definitely no shame in being a superhero girl even if I don't know these cartoons. I need to check out Pocoyo, they look great and, as we both know, Stephen Frey is just awesome!

With Britney Spears you had me laughing out loud. That's a sweet guilty pleasure. Do you want to laugh as well? I adore the song "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera, I think this is the first time I admit that. I despise Mariah Carey, though, she makes me shutter, I dislike her violently (mostly as a person from interviews). Shania Twain doesn't bother me, yeay for your mum.

I don't know any of these movies but I can enjoy my Disney as well and I always wanted to see Scooby Doo. I need to check that Velma out. And I loved Michael Cera in Juno as well. *sigh*

I do understand being strange with the ipod playlist, I can so relate to that. And naming the computer is far from weird. Mine is named "Rakete" which roughly translates into "rocket", even though there is no connotation to arms in German.

That was a great list - thanks for sharing! And by the way, I'd say tv.com is my guilty pleasure, not many people know about it and I think it's kind of odd that the people who know, read it regularly.

Katherine: I would organise your DVDs without ANY HESITATION!!! Would that mean you'd let me list them in a handy binder, arranged and colour-coded by genre?
Posted Oct 7, 2008 12:07 pm PT
Ela: "Beautiful" is a lovely song - aww, I'm the first person you've admitted that to? *honour* Mariah Carey as a person, I have to agree, is awful. I loathe her, but her music I like Seems most people agree with me on Michael Cera - Wow! And "Rakete" is an absolutely awesome name for your computer It sounds so cool! My old computer was called "Willow" And you know, tv.com is a guilty pleasure for me too in a way, none of my friends (apart from Katherine!) know about it at all. Nice to see you back Ela! Go check out Pocoyo and Scooby Doo!

I hate 'The Hills', my sisters are addicted and I just can't stand watching it. The long pauses just irritate me though. I like Britney. I'm hoping all the crazyness is gone now. I like Girls Aloud too, and I think Cheryl is doing good on The X-Factor.

Bring It On is supposed to be embarrassing? I know a lot of people who love it, the dream at the start is the best! LOL.

I wish I could be bothered to make a list of all my DVDs, but I just can't be bothered with that sort of neatness, as much as I wish that I could be neater!

Fun blog, really nice read.

tvfan: I've tried watching The Hills but that Heidi girl just winds me up. I would seriously cause that girl some damage if I met her Bring It On is deadly embarrassing, I forgot about the dream sequence at the beginning - it makes me cringe! Worst nightmare!! Glad you enjoyed the blog

I love Britney too, I play her greatest hits quite a lot. I also loved her form the beginning, I think her single 'Baby one More Time' was the first CD single I ever bought! Nothing wrong with Shania Twain, she's awesome. I love 'That Don't Impress Me Much' -- it's one of my favourite songs ever. Ah regarding the IPOD crazy organisation, you sound like me! I like to keep my ipod neat and "tidy" in that manner, but I am a bit OCD with things like that (undiagnosed lol). Great blog!

Electricpeppers: 'Baby One More Time' was the first single I ever bought too I think! I think for all us older fans you can't but love her really can you!? Nice to know I'm not the only one who is OCD about my ipod!!

Yeah, I should just embrace my nerdiness. It worked for Seth Cohen I really only like Soulja boy because after YAHH B!TCH everyone else hated him. I like to antagonize so I sing it all the time and always say "yah b!tch yah" instead of yes You must watch Arrested Development, it's awesome yay!
