THE FIRST AND ONLY 'BEST-EVER' EMMYS (PART TWO)

PART TWO - BEST IN DRAMA...
And the awards go to....
Lead Actor in a Drama Series - Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan (Dexter)
![]()
I've not been watching Dexter long but it's easy to see that Michael Hall is a great actor. I caught a few episodes of Six Feet Under a few years back and I was a fan of him then. In Dexter, he manages to play the sweet guy role alongside the psycho with seeming ease. A character like Dexter is a difficult one to play, it doesn't require a lot of emotional range as such, just very subtle, underplayed emotions.
Lead Actress in a Drama Series Jennifer Garner as Sydney Bristow (Alias)

What impresses me most about Jen Garner is how she manages to carry the series of Alias so well. I will admit that I'm not always the hugest fan of Sydney but Garner makes her likable. The stories in Alias are totally over the top but I love how she carries the emotional scenes so perfectly. She's the type of actress that you can't help but like, and I was glad she stayed with the series even when she became successful movie-wise. I think that's an example a lot of young actresses on TV need to follow. You are never bigger than your show.
Supporting Actor in a Drama Series - Jason Dohring as Logan Echolls (Veronica Mars)

Arguably Logan is a "Lead character" but to hell with it...I'm allowed to cheat this once! I absolutely adore Jason Dohring, I think he is so amazing In Veronica Mars. Comedicly, he delivers every snidey line perfectly but also makes you want to hug him when he delivers one of his emotional speeches. You love him, even when he's hates Veronica. Plus, although not a 'shipper', I have to say, an abbreviation of a couples separate names which makes "LoVe" is enough to make me want to join the Logan/Veronica boat ![]()
Supporting Actress in a Drama Series - Alyson Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

What can I say about Alyson Hannigan in Buffy other than 'she is absolutely amazing'? Ok, there isn't much else so I'll be simple - she is absolutely amazing and I love her. I've talked about Willow numerous times in my blogs so sorry if I repeat myself a little here! Willow grows so much as the show progresses and never do you feel that Hannigan's acting abilities hold the character back. It seems that no matter what the writers asked her to do she was able to do it. I've seen the pilot without Hannigan in it and I can say it sucked without her.
Guest Star/Recurring character - Eliza Dushku as Faith (Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

A character like Faith is an easy to play when they're being bad, and eventually downright evil. But it's harder to make you love that character in spite of all that. That's why I've gone for Eliza Dushku; she manages to show you why Faith is the way she is without saying much. At times in Buffy she was perhaps a little obvious with it, just big puppy-dog eyes, which is why I'm choosing her more for the way she was in Angel than in the former show. The scenes between Angel and Faith were some of my favourite, and both actors played the connection between two remorseful killers really well.
Comments
Jennifer Garner - Completely agree, she is such a talented actress and deserved an Emmy for her work on Alias.
Jason Dohring - Disagree, was never a fan of the character, but he is a decent actor. IMO, if any suppourting actor on that show should be recognised, it should've been Enrico Colantoni.
Alyson Hannigan - Completely, 100% agree. My favourite actress, and she has done so brilliant work on Buffy. Always amazing as Willow. She should've won an Emmy.
Eliza Dushku - I agree. Looking forward to her leading role in Dollhouse.
I HATE Logan in VM though. He really irritates me, but Jason Dohring is a great actor though. It's just the character I hate!
Cool blog!
Great choices. Michal C. Hall is so different in Six Feet Under and Dexter that it amazes me. Also Alyson Hannigan, she played the different shades of Willow so well!
I am not Faith's greatest fan. *ducks away from rotten tomatoes* I do agree, though, that Eliza Dushku is a good actress. I first thought that in the body-switch episode and I agree that she was way more enjoyable in Angel!
tvfan332 - Absolutely looking forward to Eliza Dushku in Dollhouse, she deserves a better lead role than Tru Calling! Enrico Colantoni was also good in VM but I found the stories only ever let him be protective dad or comedic dad
mafalada - Thanks again for the birthday wishes
Great list (checked out the previous one too); I'm glad Jen gets some appreciation around here
I agree about Eliza Dushku, and love the woman to bits, and I suppose my hesitations are exactly the reasons Joss took the project – to prove us wrong - but I can't see her in a lead role as of now. She works better as a secondary character (for me, anyways). Her films haven't been the best to showcase her abilities, I just hope she has the range of Gellar and Garner; she'll need it to hold a show.
badgersmuffin
Jennifer Garner's a good choice, not really my favourite main character but I can see why you like her, I always preferred the Dad in Alias! but I guess he couldn't have been a leading lady!
As for Alyson Hannigan and Eliza Dushku - I guess you already know what I'm going to say, perfect picks! Yay! Can't really add much else...
And... just to make this the longest comment ever, yay for your new "I'm watching" Blog header
