Never date a gamer, gamers are the worst possible people you could date.
You always hear gamers say "Oh I wish I could find a girl/guy who was a gamer".
Oh no you don't, that is your worst nightmare.

Why are gamers so awful, well let's start with the hardware and software you'll need in a relationship with a gamer...

2 television sets: You're gamers so the standard 20 inch tube set wont work. So be prepared to buy 2 LCD sets that range from the bedroom size of 40 inches to a living room of 60 or more. All playing together will be online because neither one will share TV space for split screen. You'll each have your own TV for your gaming, and they better be close in specs or one will always be complaining.

2 of every console. Have a Wii? Well then you have two. Can't wait for the XBOX 720? Well the two 360's is an interesting way to do it. You'll need 2 consoles so you can play...

2 of every title. When a new game comes out you're both going to want to play it. That means 2 Fables, 2 Little Big Planets, 2 Mario Galaxies. No one is going to wait until the other one is done with it.

One heck of a broadband service. No wimpy DSL or cable service. We're talking Verizon FIOS or higher so both consoles are able to download all the patches and demos you need without slowing down the other person too much.

That's just the hardware side of things, let's also get into the other aspect of the relationship...

You can't talk about almost all of the games you're playing because you don't want to spoil it for the other person. That means any part of the 60 hours you've logged on Fallout? Mum's the word! Unlock the secret mystery in Fable? Zip it!

You can't even ask each other for help because it spoils something for the other person.

So great job, now you're unable to talk about your hobby completely

Dating a gamer may look good on the surface but in the end it's a costly and complicated relationship that leaves no one the winner.

um dude, its called 2 player games and not having to play all day so sharing is easy, and the fact you dont live with who you are dating, unless your engaged/married.
Posted Nov 11, 2008 4:37 pm PT
and the talking about it thing works for friends also, so i dont see the big deal, and there is other things to talk about for a game besides its story...
Posted Nov 11, 2008 4:39 pm PT
Ha ha. I still think I'd take a great gaming chick over anything else any day

@rpm12345
Umm...he's joking.

Well at least my wife only does her gaming on the DS. Until Animal Crossing comes out.

This could be very true... for me I found someone who accepts my gaming and deals with it. That is much better than having a gamer wife IMO. All the rewards of playing games most of the time and none of the hassle.

Aww darn I thought we was going to get an idea of what Jaysonguy's "deal" was. Oh well.

And by "deal" I mean which way one rolls.

Speaking from experience, if there's anything you really need to worry about, it's when they start gaming more than you. When they take over your PC, Wii, and won't let you play with it. That's when it gets annoying. My girlfriend, comes to my house every other day, and jumps right onto my computer and plays Team Fortress 2. And I don't mean for like 30 minutes, she plays for at least 2-3 hours. So, if you do get a girl gamer, be prepared for her being more of a gamer than you.

Oh damn, how could I forget?
I have a gamer girlfriend, and it's actually really great. I guess if you're talking from experience, then maybe you had a particularly bad experience.
Honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Having such a huge chunk of your life that your girlfriend can't share with you is depressing.

yup... the key is to find a girl who understands the importance of gaming, but is not overly interested in it.
Posted Nov 17, 2008 1:35 pm PT
funny, but wrong, if you h ave a good relationship with a gamer you can learn to share. its not hard. ive done it.
Posted Nov 18, 2008 3:21 pm PT
its really no different then a family of gamers. my house 3 xbox 360's (1 core w/ hdd and 2 elites), 3 lcd hdtv's (two 27" 1 46" ((dad gets the bigger one))). We had/still do have/will have 3 cod4's, 3 halo 3's, 2 skate's, 2 Madden NFL 09's, 2 Rainbow six vegas' and 3 cod:waw's. and we All use the same Comcast cable internet. We also have 1 wii 2 ps2' and are possibily adding a ps3 also we all have our own xbox live gamer tags

I'd date a gamer chick, just as long as I'm slightly better than her at shooters.
Posted Nov 23, 2008 1:27 pm PT
Girls I hook up with typically like Nintendo. If its Mario 3, Wario Ware or Mario Kart they are all about it. Thats the way I like it. I dont want a girl thats a hardcore gamer, but I dont mind having a girl that appreciates some games.

I remember back when MGS3 came out. I was hooked for a good while and I just kept playing the game over and over again. My girl got pissed and said "WHY DONT YOU JUST HAVE SEX WITH METAL GEAR!"

lol that was hilarious.

i lol'd on the inside
Posted Nov 23, 2008 4:25 pm PT
LMAO my girlfriend is just getting into games, but that's good cause I can steer her in the right direction when it comes to this kind of stuff, she's gonna be great to play with when RE5 comes out

Made me smile

2 of everything? I don't think I've ever met a gaming couple that needed two copy's of one game or had a massive problem playing on one TV together.
Posted Dec 8, 2008 10:50 am PT
The Xbox 720 part made me rofl.

My ex was a gamer but she wasn't as into games as I was. We broke up 'cause she was a pretender though >_>.

Truth be told, my wife used to be a decent gamer... we were both too competitive, and I crushed her will to play. I can't even fake letting her win, because she sees right through it... now, we only play video games for articles of clothing... Gamers can be FUN as well... as long as losing is as much fun as winning!

I like this blog, saw the advertisement in a Wii thread. I'm a hardcore female gamer, so I knew I had to find a guy who loves to gaming as much as me or there was going to be a problem. I think I am a bigger gamer than my boyfriend or at least he doesn't have much time like I do to game. Our relationship is awesome and wouldn't have it any other way, although we do bicker about whose getting what-game on release dates. And we bicker about the rights and properties of a newly released game because both of us wants to play it at the same time.

rofl i still wish i had a gaming girl.
Posted Dec 24, 2008 9:49 am PT
Your actually right. I know people like this and they get 2 of everything but their married
Posted Dec 29, 2008 5:46 pm PT
i cant see this actually happening. there is no way i would ever buy 2 of a console, of 2 HD tv's so that we could both play. if she wants to play mario galaxy, im pretty content with just sitting there and watching. also, i dont really see how the spoilers part applies. i talk to my gamer friends about games i've already played all the time, i just make sure that i dont mention stuff they havnt made it too yet.
Posted Apr 23, 2009 12:03 pm PT
Never cared much for spoilers a girl friend gamer would be cool, tho adjusting my hardcore gaming wouldn't be a problem for me starting to cut down time already. In anticipation for a gf or wife I can go either up or down im in a gaming/ non gaming limbo atm
Posted May 18, 2009 5:58 pm PT

Posted Jun 8, 2009 11:40 am PT
