I'm in a good mood today, but I ache all over!

As mentioned in my previous blog, I've decided to have a go at kickboxing. I went to my first lesson yesterday. It was all pretty bizarre, as the vast majority of people there had been kickboxing for years. I also couldn't drag anyone along with me, so I felt like a complete loner n00b. Fortunately everyone was really friendly and forgiving when I couldn't do a 'snap kick' to save my life. I even had a woman stand on my knees whilst I was sat in the lotus position - how insane is that!? Not your usual idea of a Monday night.

I'm not sure if I'll go back yet, as I guess it is a disadvantage that there aren't any other n00bs like me. It's not so much feeling inimidated, but I don't want to feel like I'm the rubbish member of the group who slows everyone down, you know? On the other hand, I did have fun, and I think it can teach me a lot of new things. We shall see.

So sleepy now!

Whenever I'm new to something others aren't (typically an online game) I just try to do my best and it always works out.

It's Kick, Punch, It's all in the mind.

Don't worry, you'll get used to that feeling of total noobishness, I feel like that everytime I try to do something, but aslong as you enjoy it, does it really matter? I just think to myself "Look the world isn't going to end because you can't do x,y,z"...just as well too!

Don't worry about "slowing the group down". If you're having un, go with it

You should keep going and practicing. This will be better as time goes by

It's common practice in most martial arts, if you think that's bad I can tell you it's a lot worse when a stranger has their leg on you shoulder and is stretching. That's what happens in Karate, in the routine warm up.::: If you don't feel it's right for you take up Tai Chi, and practise Qigong, the weight will fly off via well being.

Practice makes perfect, as they say. Keep at it and you should be kicking your way to a black belt in no time!

Good exercise at the very least. And when plllow and blanket time arrives I'll wager you are more than ready

On top of which you are learning proper self defence.

Lol, Jam, yeah it is certainly better to start with a group of novices! But as linkyshinks mentioned, these are the routine training in all Martial Arts. If you haven't done heavy training before, I would recommend a few months of lighter sports to get in shape for heavier sport

If you enjoyed yourself and had fun, then that's what matters and should continue on. I used to go to my local sports centre to do Tae Kwon Do years ago but gave up on it unfortunately.

You'll probably hate yourself if you end up giving up (I still hate myself for quitting on my first day of Karate class), just think about where you'll be a month from now if you stick to it. The whole n00b thing, everyone's one at some point, no big deal, you'll likely be the one helping out the next newbie.

Good luck, I think you should go back though. It sounds like you had a great time and it's something that would be good for you.

Are you doing the Kickboxing more for a protection thing or workout...maybe even both.
