It's true the missus and I are having our first baby. Next week we find out (hopefully) whether it's gonna be a boy or a girl.
We're really excited, but recently I realized that my brand new 52 Inch DLP with it's stand containing one HD reciever, one Xbox and one Xbox 360 are all in the "high slobber - probable puke - prying fingers - scooping food" area. (see below picture):

That means I need to figure out a way to keep my baby from turning my electronics into scrap before he reaches 2 years old. So my dilemma is this, do I build a shelf attachment for the wall directly above the set and store my electronics there? or do I put the whole set on a higher stand and hope it doesn't get toppled at some point? :S
Anyone with any winning suggestions will get an Xbox 360 picture of box only and my enduring gratitude.

Evidently the stand doesn't have a spot to mount a door, although I suppose I could build one in some fashion. The only problem with my idea of wall mounting a shelf for the entertainment equipment is that unless I use cordless controllers for both my Xbox and 360, the cords will dangle in front of the screen when I am playing... Urg.
The surround sound I'm not really worried about, because the wires I can drop down thru the walls and wall mount the speakers without a lot of trouble. I may have to purchase some kind of closable stand for the other equipment though. Set it beside the set maybe. *shrug*
I would say your second idea would be best: Buy a stand next to the TV.

As for the electronics, could you put on lockable shelf doors on the stand or does it not support those? Otherwise, I'm not sure. Generally higher is better but I don't know where you could put the receiver, sound system, and ever so important XBoxes where they would be out of reach of inquistive fingers. Maybe wall mount but I don't know the details. Anyways, congrats again.
