This blog is pretty random and I still have to complete the list of my twenty favourite TV couples but I just started going to college and so I've been pretty busy. You know how it is: Getting used to a new environment, meeting new people, learning new stuff. But I'm definitely going to post it; hopefully next week.
Meanwhile I had some other stuff I wanted to talk about:
Firstly: What's up with tv.com's new design? When I read they were going to redesign it, I thought it would be better afterwards, but I just can't get used to it. As so many other bloggers already mentioned: It's too bright and kind of messy. I loved the old dark blue and somehow I haven't seen any changes that made this site any better. It's a good site, why change it. But I will eventually get used to it, I think.
Secondly: I'm in a pretty good mood because after months and months of waiting and watching old episodes of House and Grey's Anatomy, both show's are finally back. I loved the first episode of House and can't wait for Tuesday when the second episode will air. (Actually, I won't be able to see it until Wednesday of course, but you get the point
) I'm really excited to see the PI and from what I've seen in several spoilers and promos, I think it will be great. I'm so addicted to spoilers right now, I can't believe it. I used to hate spoilers because I thought they'd really tell you what would happen, but now I realized that they rarely tell you the end, they just get you more excited and teased.
House's first episode had an interesting case, a lot of 13 stuff and a very depressed Wilson. I liked HL and RSL's interaction very much and I'm anxious how the now separated dream team House/Wilson will "get back together". In the meantime I rewatch season 4 in German because they just started airing those episodes. I watch them with my mum, who's totally unaware what will happen. And I won't tell her. So it's actually pretty fun to tease her and she will be very surprised when she gets to see the last two episodes.
Concerning Grey's: I loved the season 4 finale and I'm pretty excited to see what will happen this season. The promos looked good, but I was concerned for some time when Derek seemed to be injured and died. Well, they have to make it look interesting, don't they? While waiting for the fifth season, they started airing the last six episodes of season 4 in Germany and my best friend, who just started watching Grey's has no idea what's going to happen. I love watching Grey's with her, so I can tease her, too. It's rather difficult for me to talk about my favourite shows with my German friends because they don't have seen the newest episodes yet and most of the time I have to bite my tongue not telling them what's going to happen. Well, that's the price of wanting to see everything and not being able to wait... It's still worth it ![]()
What else? I've been watching a lot of Sex and the City lately and of course I fell in love with Big's and Carrie's relationship. I ranked them #17 on my favourite couples, mainly because I've just seen the first season, the fifth season and the movie. Now I'd probably rank them higher because they're just wonderful. They have amazing chemistry and although they spent most of the show apart, the series' finale just HAD to be their reunion. Although he has big commitment problems and she also makes mistakes, they're perfect for each other. They accept their flaws and are always there for each other. I especially loved season 4, when they were "just friends". Without all the relationship fuzz and all their issues you could see that they just got along perfectly. They mocked each other but they also knew each other so well, they knew exactly how far they could go. My favourite episodes would be (apart from the finale) "I love NY" (The season 4 finale) and "The domino effect" (Season six). Both episodes show the essence of this couple and have very sweet moments. In "I love NY", Big moves to California and they spent their last evening together. I was so touched by their dancing scene (Moon River) and you could see there were still feelings on both sides. "The domino effect" is just a perfect episode. Big is getting heart surgery and Carrie can't stop crying. What I like most about this episode is the fact that Carrie, who has been hurt by Big numerous times l is stil there for him. I love that scene where she is playing with the dominos and he's talking about how this would be how they spent their seventies together. You see that he really wants to spend his future with her. And of course when he gets a fever and he's in bed and saying "What are we doing" all over again. My heart skipped a beat, I can tell you.
Well, enough talking about Sex and the city. And if I look at this blog, I'd say enough talking altogether. I still have to do some work, mostly Math homework and I want to go to bed early because I want to watch the Emmys tonight at 2 am. Damn you time difference. So, bye for now.
My plane to NYC goes on nine hours and I'm incredibly excited and can't wait. Or sleep. So, to pass the time I posted the second to last TV couples I like or liked. We're moving towards the top five couples but I'll post them when I return from my vacation. All five couples in this section are from my favourite shows and all but one are from current shows. And I just realized that when I come back I'll only have to wait two more weeks before these current shows return.
Yippie!
Nr.10: Elliot & JD
(Scrubs)
![]()
Current status:
Separated
The Beginning:
JD was smitten the instant he saw Elliot. He asked her out but she turned out to be a little, well let's call it competitive.
Course of the Relationship:
They decided to become friends instead although JD always wanted her to be more. A little later, they slept together and they were a couple for a few weeks but they realized that they weren't cut out to be a couple. After some uncomfortable days, they were friends again but slept together a year after they broke up, split up and slept together again, after JD realized that he loved her. Elliot left her boyfriend for JD who then realized he didn't want her. Both had several relationships, JD got a son and ELliot got engaged, but they also shared a moment when they almost kissed.
The End & Future:
It seems as though the wrters want them to end up with each other, but you never know, currently they're just flirting and they're both single.
When I fell in love with them:
I liked them in the first season, especially when they shared that pizza.
Why I like them:
I liked their relationship when they first hooked up and I loved the second time. When they split up the second time, I thought: Well, maybe that's not meant to be. JD started to like her and she split up with her boyfriend. And then, when they just got back together, JD didn't want her any more. I absolutely hated that. Since then, I'm rather sceptic and for a long time I couldn't imagine them being together again. But recently, I kind of got used to the idea, so maybe... some time... who knows?
Best Moment:
When they hooked up for the third time I felt so happy for them because they seemed to genuinely like each other this time. Right before JD didn't want her any more.
Saddest Moment:
The end of "My bed, banter and beyond". The whole episode was about their relationship and at that point it was already clear that they will split up. But the episode jumped back to the first day of their relationship and they were so full of hope, I felt so sorry for them that it didn't work out.
Why Nr.10?
Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. I haven't made up my mind yet.
Miscellaneous:
I always like to think of them as the "Ross and Rachel" of today.
Nr.9: Gabrielle & Carlos
(Desperate Housewives)

Current status:
Divorced, but dating (As of season 4, episode 9 "Something's coming")
The Beginning:
At the beginning of the show, Carlos and Gabrielle were unhappily married. Carlos wanted a baby very much and Gabrielle wanted the gardener very much, so she had an affair with him.
Course of the Relationship:
Because of several financial problems, Carlos had to go to prison and was almost sentenced to even more time in jail because he beat up two guys who he thought were having an affair. Gabrielle originally wanted him to stay in prison because he messed with her birth control pills, but she eventually decided to blackmail him into taking complete care of the baby in exchange for her testimony. Gabrielle lost the baby and because she can't get pregnant again, they try to adopt a child. Eventually, they find surrogate mother Xiao-Mei, which whom Carlos starts an affair. Gabrielle and Carlos get divorced but stay clos and still have feelings for one another. Carlos gets together with Edie, Gabrielle marries Victor Lang but kisses Carlos on her wedding day, because Victor only married her to gain goodwill. They plan to run away together but that proves to be difficult because Edie tried to kill herself when Carlos left her. Gabrielle tries to leave Victor who almost drowns when he, Gabrielle and Carlos were on a boat.
The End & Future:
Victor remembers the incident on the boat and now tries to kill Gabrielle and Carlos. When he attempts to shoot Carlos during the tornado, he is killed by a flying fence post.
When I fell in love with them:
It was only in late season two - when they tried to get a baby and Gabrielle had split up with John - when I liked them together. Before that, it seemed as though they weren't meant to be together at all.
Why I like them:
He loves her, she loves him and they still keep fighting all the time. They can't stay together, they can't stay apart. I like their chemistry, her cocky side and his macho side colliding. In the end, they love each other and can't keep their hands off each other. They try to find happiness with other partners but they are still drawn to each other. At least it never gets boring ![]()
Best Moment:
I liked this scene when the police came and took Gaby away and Carlos stood on the porch drinking a beverage. Can't remember which season. And I loved the season three finale when they were kissing at her wedding.
Saddest Moment:
I really don't remember any particular moment. Of course I didn't like the time when they were apart, but other than that?
Why Nr.9?
They started as an unhappily married couple and you thought they didn't like each other but eventually they love and forgave each other.
Miscellaneous:
Perhaps the couple having the most affairs in this list.
Nr.8: Piper & Leo
(Charmed)

Current status:
Married, three children (Wyatt, Chris and Melinda)
The Beginning:
Leo used to be the handyman living next door and Piper and Phoebe were instantly smitten. Leo fell for Piper and they started a relationship.
Course of the Relationship:
Leo turned out to be a whitelighter who wasn't allowed to have a relationship with a witch thus ending the relationship with Piper. Piper starts to date the neighbour but eventually she and Leo - who was suspended from being a whitelighter for some time because he healed her - got back together once again. Leo asked Piper to marry her, but at fisrt the Elders were against it. Eventually they allowed them to get married and soon their first son Wyatt was born. When Leo was promoted to an Elder, he left his family with their new whitelighter Chris, who turned out to be Piper's and his second son. When Leo realized he was going to be a father again, he wanted to get together with Piper but because he wanted to revenge Chris's death, he became an Avatar. After some struggel, he became a human and stayed with his family for good.
The End & Future:
In the last season, Leo was supposed to die as a motivation for the sisters to fight an evil force. They succeed and Leo and Piper reunite and have another daughter.
When I fell in love with them:
I think it was right at the beginning when Piper and Phoebe fought over Leo and it was clear they both liked each other right from the beginning.
Why I like them:
It's about magic, it's a forbidden love and a struggle for both of them. They want to be together and they went through so much together and eventually they got their happily ever after. I think they make a perfect couple, sweet and very romantic and I always liked seeing them together, especially with their little son(s).
Best Moment:
I loved the scene when they were in the Ghostly Plane and they realized they still loved each other.
Saddest Moment:
Leo has been taken away by the Elders and Piper demands him back. Great scene.
Why Nr.8?
They have been through so much but eventually they get together. Negative point: Taking Leo away for the last season was absolutely redundant.
Miscellaneous:
It's the third couple from a fantasy show - and the last one.
Nr.7: Carla & Turk
(Scrubs)

Current status:
Married, one child (Izzie)
The Beginning:
Carla and Turk almost slept together in the pilot episode of the show, but Carla let him undress and then left.
Course of the Relationship:
For some time, Turk tried to get a date with Carla, but she didn't want to because she was looking for the "real" thing. After some time they started dating and eventually Turk told Carla, a he loved her (After everyone thought they were about to break up) A year later, Turk asked Carla to marry her, but she needed some time to think. When Turk was almost ready to give up, she accepted and they got married in the hospital because Turk missed the ceremony in the church. They tried for some time to get pregant and eventually succeeded. Their little daughter Izabel (Izzie) was born and after suffering through postpartum depression, Carla returned to work.
The End & Future:
Carla's thinking about having a second baby while Turk has grown up but is still a little boy when he's around JD.
When I fell in love with them:
Season 1, episode 12, "My blind date" Turk and Carla have a fight and you think they break up, but Turk tells her that he wants to spend "every iritating moment" with her. I loved that episode.
Why I like them:
Again, I like this relationship because of its reality and nice romantic moments. It's not over the top romantic as other relationship and you can always relate to them. They're scared of commitment, they have fights and when they have a baby, they know it's not going to be easy. On the other hand they always stay together, they help each other through problems and most important: Carla accepts Turk's weird guy-friendship with JD
They just live their everyday life with all its ups and downs.
Best Moment:
I liked the birth of their daughter very much, their song in "My Musical" and the above mentioned moment when they realize they love each other.
Saddest Moment:
I was very disappointed when Turk didn't make it to the wedding on time. I just felt so sorry for Carla. The other moment would be Carla's suffering through postpartum depression that made me almost cry.
Why Nr.7?
It's an almost perfect relationship with ups and downs and a lot of realism.
Miscellaneous:
Maybe you should call this relationship a "triangle"... JD and Turk are really close , too ![]()
Nr.6: Christina & Burke
(Grey's Anatomy)

Current status:
Separated, unlikely to get back together ever again.
The Beginning:
Following her best friend's example, Christina starts a fling with her attending Burke after he seems to be interested in her.
Course of the Relationship:
At the beginning of their relationship, it's all about sex and after a few weeks later Christina discovers that she's pregnant. She doesn't tell him and wants to abort the baby, but she loses it, which brings her closer with Burke. She moves in with him, but keeps her apartment for some time. Burke is always the one to make the first step and he tells her that he loves her. Eventually, Christina gives up her apartment. They grow closer when Burke gets shot and loses functionality in his hand. In the end, Burke proposes and after some time Christina accepts.
The End & Future:
On their wedding day, Christina gets cold feet: She leaves Burke at the althar and Burke leaves Seattle.
When I fell in love with them:
Season 2, Episode 4 "Deny, deny, deny" Christina has been crying almost the entire episode and Burke comes in and consoles her. The way he held her was so samn cute that I was hooked on this couple.
Why I like them:
They don't seem to be happy most of the time, Burke tries too hard, Christina too little and still: They have amazing chemistry, they seem to love each other very much and it's a great love story. Very real, because they have both flaws and they try to work around them. I'm actually pretty sad that they didn't get a happy end, but maybe that's part of their magic.
Best Moment:
As above mentioned: Season 2, Episode 4
Saddest Moment:
Christina leaves Burke at the althar. I know it was necessary that Isiah Washington left the show but come on: I rooted for this couple so much for three seasons and now they'll never be together again... Kind of sad.
Why Nr.6?
Although they're not your usual, happy couple and the end is very sad, I still like their chemistry and their differences.
Miscellaneous:
The second couple in my list who won't be together and won't have a happy ending.
That's it, the second to last five couples. I'm going to catch some sleep now - if I can... Bye. Will be back in two weeks.
In my last blog I told you about the first five couples I like and ship and almost all of them were from older shows: Despite Desperate Housewives, every show I mentioned has had a proper season finale. That's only the case for two of my next five couples and furthermore I'll have more to write because four out of five couples are from my all-time favourite shows.
Enough talking, I'm just going to proceed to ranks 15,14,13,12 and 11. Enjoy!
Nr.15: Phoebe & Mike
(Friends)

Current status:
Married.
The Beginning:
Phoebe and Joey decide to set each other up on blind dates and Joey, who forgot, introduces her to the next stranger, Mike.
Course of the Relationship:
At first, Phoebe is mad at both Joey and Mike, but when she meets Mike again, they hook up and become a happy couple. But when they want to move in together, they disagree over their future (Mike doesn't want to get married) and break up. Although they can't keep their hands off each other, they stay apart. When an old boyfriend, Phoebe's first love, proposes to her in Barbados, Monica convinces Mike to propose, too. Phoebe doesn't accept either proposal but she gets back together with Mike. On their first anniversary they get engaged, after they both proposed to each other but failed.
The End & Future:
Phoebe and Mike get married in a wonderful ceremony in the snow and in the finale, they decide that they want children of their own.
When I fell in love with them:
I think it was right at the beginning, after Joey introduced him to her and I somehow knew that this was going to be a great couple.
Why I like them:
Mike is absolutely right for Phoebe: Phoebe's crazy and wild, Mike is rather quiet and always tries to bring Phoebe back down to earth: They complete each other perfectly, plus they are very cute. And I like that he's the one for Phoebe who has had her share of bad relationships.
Best Moment:
I just loved their wedding: It was romantic, kind of weird (like Phoebe) and the episode where they couldn't keep their hands off one another although they wanted to split up.
Saddest Moment:
I hated it when they broke up so soon after they got together because it was very clear that they were meant to be together. It mad me sad that they were still torn towards each other and couldn't keep their hands off one another but still they stayed apart.
Why Nr.15?
I like them but on the other hand I liked Phoebe and "the scientist guy", too and always felt that maybe they should have ended up together.
Miscellaneous:
An often forgotten couple, overshadowed by the whole Ross&Rachel, Monica &Chandler hype.
Nr.14: Lynette & Tom
(Desperate Housewives)

Married, five kids (As of season 4, episode 9 "Something's coming")
The Beginning:
Lynette and Tom are introduced as a married couple in the show's pilot.
Course of the Relationship:
The first time, Lynette is very unhappy because on the one hand she wants to be a good mother for her four children but on the other hand she misses her job as an advertiser. She gets hooked on drugs but fights through it. Later she seems to discover that Tom is cheating on her with another woman, but she discovers that Tom has a 12-year-old daughter from the time they weren't married. Lynette gets shot and soon after that cancer but fights through both with Tom. They open a pizza place together, but Lynette has to take care of it on her own when Tom hurts his back. She developes feelings for another man and Tom and she almost break up. After a fight, they discover that Lynette has cancer.
The End & Future:
They fight her cancer together and reconcile. At a tornando, Lynette's family gets burried in a cellar.
When I fell in love with them:
As soon as I watched the show I was instantly smitten with them.
Why I like them:
They are a very real couple: I mean, they have been married for some time, they have children and of course there are many problems. But eventually they fight together for their love and their family. They are both very strong people (Lynette's sometimes a little bit stronger, but that's alright) but they can be both very gentle and caring.
Best Moment:
Their wedding anniversary was just perfect. Well, after some time ![]()
Saddest Moment:
I was devastated when Lynette and of course me thought that Tom was cheating on her and she left him. I'm also very anxious to know what happened after the tornado to Tom and the kids.
Why Nr.14?
Cute couple with ups and downs, but not the usual ship I love. Would love to see their first date or something like that.
Miscellaneous:
Married from the first season up until now, it's not the usual ship because most couples on this list fall in love whle the show's running.
Nr.13: Izzie & Alex
(Grey's Anatomy)

Current status:
Separated, kissing in the season 4 finale
The Beginning:
It wasn't exactly love at first sight: Izzie despised Alex for... well being a jerk and only after some time she realized that there was more to him than she thought.
Course of the Relationship:
After some time, Alex asks Izzie out on a date but because he just got to know he failed his medical exams, he treated her shabbily. Izzie is very mad but eventually they kiss in a bar and start to go out. Their relationship comes to an end when Alex sleeps with a nurse and Izzie falls in love with another man, the patient Denny, but continues to sleep with Alex. Eventually she gets engaged to Denny but he dies and it's Alex who picks her up and carrys her out. They don't get together because Izzie's not ready for a new relationship. Izzie falls in love with George, Alex likes Ava who turns out to be mentally ill.
The End & Future:
Both relationships don't last and Alex is devastated and turns to Izzie for comfort. They kiss.
When I fell in love with them:
I think it was the kiss in the bar. They have been friends for some time but this kiss was so passionately, I couldn't help leaning to the TV.
Why I like them:
Once again an on-off relationship. I liked the concept that Alex used to be very arrogant and Izzie is this sweet lttle girl and still they are torn to each other like a moth to a flame. He can be kind of soft and she likes his vulnerable side. Of course he cheated on her but eventually, he's there for him (e.g. after Denny's death) and she's there for him (when Ava turns crazy).
Best Moment:
It has to be the kiss in the bar, as mentioned above.
Saddest Moment:
I was almost (!) crying in the season 4 finale when Alex turns to Izzie for comfort and they kiss for the first time after tehy have been separated for almost a season.
Why Nr.13?
One of the couples I don't really know how to feel about. Yes, they're cute, but somehow they keep splitting up and I also like them with other partners (Addison, Ava or Denny, George).
Miscellaneous:
I'm looking forward to the fifth season: I hope they'll grow closer.
Nr.12: Jordan & Dr.Cox
(Scrubs)

Current status:
Divorced, but a couple, two children
The Beginning:
JD sleeps with the new boardmember Jordan and discovers that she's Cox's ex-wife. Cox and Jordan have been married before the show but they couldn't get along. After meeting for some time just to sleep with each other, they get together again.
Course of the Relationship:
Jordan's pregnancy softens Cox and when he finds out that Jordan's son Jack is actually his, the couple seems to grow even closer. One day, they get to know that they're actually married but they decide to get divorced, because it makes them happier than being married. They usually fight a lot but they have their moments. When Jack is older, they want to give their "baby-stuff" away, but a few days later they find out that Jordan's pregnant again. They decide to keep the baby but they have more problems when it turns out that the little girl has to undergo surgery in the womb. Eventually she gets born healthy and named Jennifer Dylan (J.D.).
The End & Future:
Who knows? One season left.
When I fell in love with them:
Season 2, episode 8 "My fruit cups": After they have had
casual sex for a while, Jordan returns pregnant from a trip and tells Cox that some bellboy got her pregnant. Cox choses her and his sentence "Hey Lady. I'm proud of what you're doing here" made me ship this couple for the whole show.
Why I like them:
Their differences. They seem to argue all the time, they have wonderful battles. She is an evil witch, he's an arrogant, cocky doctor. But they complete each other perfectly, seem to be good parents and their few romantic moments are wonderful.
Best Moment:
I don't have one specific moment, just those few moments when they behave like a loving couple and not fighting for a change.
Saddest Moment:
Season 2, Episode 2 "My Nightingale" Cox found out that he is the father of baby Jack. He breaks up with Jordan but she keeps running after him until he eventually forgives her. I hated to see this cuple almost split up.
Why Nr.12?
Married, divorced, in love, two children, but they refuse to get married: A very special couple who seem to argue more than they love each other.
Miscellaneous:
It's not the usual couple, but there is a lot of chemistry. If Scrubs was a drama show, I'd love this couple even more. But because it's a comedy show and an ensemble show, they don't get enough screen-time.
Nr.11: Grace & Will
(Will & Grace)

Current status:
Married, but not with each other. Related because their children got married.
The Beginning:
Will and Grace met in college and soon started a relationship. One year later Will proposed to her but he only wanted to postpone having sex with her. He realized that he was gay and Grace was devastated.
Course of the Relationship:
A few years later, they met again and soon they became best friends. They moved in together after one of Grace's relationships failed and helped each other through several break-ups, new boyfriends, always knowing that the other one has their back. They even decide that they want to have a child through artificial insemination but eventually Grace falls in love with another man, Leo. She gets married to him and Will and Grace have a huge fight. After some time they reconcile but in the end, both have new partners.
The End & Future:
Will and Grace decide that they have to lead their own lives. Grace marries Leo, Will marries Vince, both have children and eventually these children marry, reuniting the couple as relatives.
When I fell in love with them:
First episode. I instantly liked their closeness and the whole concept of them being best friends.
Why I like them:
They're absolutely cute together. They're so close, maybe closer than most "real" couples and behave like husband and wife, but they support each other when someone has a new partner. I like that they're so funny together and that they complete each other. I always felt that they should hook up, but after all, he's gay.
Best Moment:
I don't have one moment, I just loved their general closeness and the way they always looked out for the other one.
Saddest Moment:
Their fight when Grace didn't want the artifivial insemination.
Why Nr.11?
I hated the finale: Why do they have to spent so much time apart? They were best friends, almost lovers and they spent so much time apart?
Miscellaneous:
A couple that isn't a couple: Will's gay and Grace is in love with other men. I still always thought they belong together.
With this unusual couple I'll finish this blog for today. I hope I can finish this blog series before I go on vacation for two weeks. But I'm rather optimistic, because I'm so hooked on this project.
